My other side won the flag that year and we spent all day in the Boundary Hotel. After Plugger won the brownlow I drove to Moorabbin ( very very stupid as the Boundary had a cop shop opposite it) Went inside the Social club and there was about 50 people there and continued getting pissed until Plugger and Nicky got back from the brownlow. One of the last things I remember was having the brownlow around my neck at about 4am in the morning. I really wish we had I phones back then.

Was that the one he took on the members wing at Moorabbin where he came in from an angle and climbed above shoulder high?stevie wrote:I remember seeing Nicky's mark on The Winners the next morning - it was Rd 9 of that year.Sainterman wrote:Perhaps, a long way back...there was certainly talk of that back then too. The vision wasn't the best but he was damn near 3 storeys high - one of the greatest of all time.
Have never seen it since - it has to be on some old tape?
It was as good a mark as I have ever seen.
But the match wasn't televised and I have never seen any footage of it.
I did hear that some blurry vision of it exists.
Would LOVE to see it.
Like many such things, the mind can play tricks and I wonder if it was really as good as I thought it was at the time!!!!
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.

Yeah, I quite liked the Southern Saints song.Enrico_Misso wrote:It was a fantastic song.Dr Spaceman wrote:We’re Saints we’re proud and we’ve got a lot of fight,
Were on the move and they’ll feel our might
We’ll hit em nice and hard, make em drop their guard,
And we’re loyal to our mates
Coz we’re the Saints
We’re Saints we’re mean and we’re all mighty keen,
We’re after wins like you’ve never seen,
We’ll get em on the run, we’re not out here for fun,
And we’re loyal to our mates
Coz we’re the Saints
Really got everyone going up in the Social Club.
Wish they would bring it back.
The current version is so BLAND
I wouldn't say the current version is bland. I guess he hear all the time and it becomes a little monotonous. It still gets us going though. The drum roll at the start is great. It'd be missed if we were to depart with it for good.
It'd be nice to hear the Southern Saints and maybe the original just change it up from time to time.

Yeah Enrico, that was Nicky's mark
He took quite a few speckies over his career but that was the best.
It is even mentioned in The Point Of It All, on page 272 :
'the big crowd was also treated to the sight of one of the great marks of all time when Nicky Winmar hung in the air for an absolute 'screamer' in front of the grandstand. It was only just captured on TV and the still photos did not do it justice'.
Two pages on, there is a pic of Cuz taking a ripper v Richmond the same year

the upload you've been looking for!
This thread being resurrected inspired me to upload the 80's theme song in question...

Clearly the recording has come from an old cassette tape, and needed a fair amount of cleaning up to remove hiss and other noise. Enjoy!

How I want a copy of this book. Have trawled second-hand book stores and online stores everywhere!! I seem to remember going to a family day @ Luna Park in about 1996/7 as a kid, and my dad saying I could pick one of "Heroes with Haloes" or "The Point of it All". As much as I love the former, seems like a stupid decision in hindsight!stevie wrote:Yeah Enrico, that was Nicky's mark

Sounds like you might need to get in touch with an archivist at Channel 7 to try and dig up the footage for you.mrkiss wrote:does anyone have video footage?

Re:
That Nicky grab was right in front of where I was standing, without doubt the best mark I've ever seen. He got so high he had both feet on a Bummers tall's shoulders and took it cleanly, and as the guys legs began to buckle under the weight he seemed to push up again and hang there for an eternity. I remember seeing vision of it from one camera in the grandstand but it was miles away and in the shadows so you couldn't get a proper feel for just how amazing it really was in the flesh... Neil Elvis was my fave ever Saint...Sainterman wrote:degruch wrote: Perhaps, a long way back...there was certainly talk of that back then too. Round 9 1987. mcadam05 had the vision on here a couple of years back and it was on YouTube but seems to have gone now.

Winmar's mark is featured in St Kilda News Vol 1(1987).

Re: the channel 7 archivist. It is well worth following up as I was able to get my hands on a 1973 Glenelg vs Richmond highlights from a Champions of Australia game.
I was lucky to see Kevin Bartlett at Sputhland signing his book on Hafey and talked about it with him.
