Originally from NSW, Luke Portese worked in the highly dangerous Tactical Operations Unit for the New South Wales police department, before moving to the NRL club West Tigers for six years.
The 34-year-old said he is ready for the challenge of a new sport, and believes he can bring a lot of his knowledge to his new position with the Saints......"

Re: SWAT training for Saints (New Appointment)
judging by the mess that was the sydney seige...don't let him anywhere near a gun....
'Portese said watching the drama unfold brought back memories from his time in the force.
“It would’ve been an exciting and great job to be a part of, especially since the boys I trained with would’ve been working on that, but also it was good to be safe considering I have my family to think of. It was a bit of a double-edged sword watching all of that happen in Sydney.”
.....'exciting'........really....???....maybe just a poor choice of words....

West tigers have been a crappy team for the last few years so hopefully it was only their skills that were the problem

I know you mean as it was a terrible accident and hope it never happens again, however you have to think that when it's your job, and you enjoy what you do sometimes these things are exciting. Ie- not knowing what comes next, it's what they train for. I know plenty of emergency nurses and ambulance drivers and each one of them thrive and get excited off terrible accidents. They don't want people to die, but like the adrenalin of not knowing what's coming next and therefore the uncertainty of it is 'exciting'

I hope he kicks their arses.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

I worry about anyone with an NRL background, especially in strength and conditioning.

Agree with what you say except "terrible accident" - it was anything but.Batnoe wrote:stinger wrote:judging by the mess that was the sydney seige...don't let him anywhere near a gun....

Enough of the SWAT worship ! He does sound like he will bring a hard edge to the coaching team which I think we need. We have a young side and we need them to start to develop some real competitive mongrel !
