A meal, a band, a dance, etc in the social club.
An 'introduction to Aussie Rules' clinic.
Tickets to a game/s.
Create a special OS membership category.
Big screen in the middle of the oval showing an interstate game, maybe even followed by a movie,
with community groups running food stalls, whatever...

It's called inserting our club a part of the tourists' wonderful Australian experience and memories.

We are then remembered, and followed from afar. And they will tell their mates, some of whom will want to come and also experience what their mates experienced. If OS tourists can have 'Neighbours' ( ) and 'Secret Life of Us' tours as part of their 'must do' itinerary, we can become something similar.

And basically the same approach can apply to interstate and local visitors. It's a numbers game. If one in a hundred tourists is hooked as above, then from little things, humongous things can be grown. And only our iconic funky suburb of St Kilda offers this opportunity to its footy club.

Hey, I'm not in marketing or sales. So if I can come up with those ideas, just imagine what real marketing people could come up with.

The wonderful wayward unconventional St Kilda footy club, back home in our icon suburb that is St Kilda. Promoting that would be a marketers dream! 8-)

Why the hell would anyone apart from saints supporters go to a social club in St Kilda when there are so many other options there. Without being rude Dave I don't think you get the people who hang around that area. They aren't go to a boring social club. More hope of that in suburbia. Using words like funky and groovy mean jack s***. I must say im glad you aren't involved in marketing at our club.

Thanks Davey Mac for the link to acquaint me once more with Eureka street.

Having a little browse around the site I came across a beautiful article from the wonderful Brian Matthews I had been referring t0 in the earlier post - Matthews has lost non of his erudite ways in prose - his article on How Phillip Hughes' death moved the nation is sensitive and educative in examining the reaction to such a tragedy.

here is the link: http://eurekastreet.com.au/article.aspx?aeid=42269#.

Matthews' ending to his article is so poignant in it's starkness ...... possibly attempting to answer the great poets/writers take on death that he quotes in the article.

"Eloquent? Certainly - Death haunts the newspapers and the airwaves. Just? Not at all. Mighty? Unfortunately, yes - and every now and then, such as during the past week, we cower and weep before Death's indiscriminating might."

Leave it with you Davey Mac.

Also another of his books worth a read is one on the MCG............... can't quite recall its title at the moment......... its hidden gathering dust in one of my many bookshelves............. title is something like 'The Paddock on the Hill'............... I'll let you know correct title when I find it........... or remember it. Gee this getting old, really puts a strain on the memory cells!!!!
Found it Davey Mac............. it's full of dust and yellowing around the edges of the pages, hidden amongst a multitude of cricket books I possess The title is:

'The Temple Down the Road' by Brian Matthews.

Ofcourse the opening chapter to this book on the MCG is about the 1966 Grand Final............. true Sainter is Brian Matthews. Brings in the Saints at any point he can

Avid

The book you were referring to is: Oval Dreams: Larrikin Essays on Sport and Low Culture.

I'll have to chase that one up...... thanks for the heads up on it.

Whatever the outcome, we can't stay at Seaford. Archie Fraser should be ashamed of himself for putting us in this situation. He should never be allowed to step into the St Kilda FC again.

Can you tell me how training at Seaford effects the people who watch games at Etihad?

Reading that Dean Jones article, he misses the two key points that most critics of our move back home to JO seem to also miss.

1/ The many many mutual advantages of synergy...
several organizations working together to pool resources, talents, contacts, expertise and media exposure (to name just a few)...

2/ You can't play outdoors centre turf wicket cricket in the Melbs' winter!
(Ok, the Sri Lankans at Silverton State School oval aside. )

So why suddenly (suddenly, coz footy is currently played on JO) have an elite venue sitting idle over winter?

Elite cricket and elite footy codes share grounds all around the country.
(And lets not forget why Aussie Rules was created in the first place...? )

Mutual sharing for mutual benefits. Win-win. 8-)

Can you tell me how Finnis statement proves my question isn't relevant? I can see the big picture. You see fantasyland as per your continued statements that we will play AFL footy at the JO even though not one person of note has ever said that and if anything have the complete opposite.

It doesn't effect the people watching the games at Etihad. That is not what we are discussing here and if you haven't realized what we are discussing then go back and watch "Play School" on the ABC Mr. plugger66.

How does CV gain anything by us also using the facilities? There is no way footy will be played on the ground because it is CV ground, if built, and we are training over the road if we join them. Again what benefit does CV get. The answer is none if we played on the ground. Its actually a negative benefit. Please get real Dave and realise if we ever go to the JO it will be for the facilities and the training groun over the road.

See point one above, P66.

That's the encapsulation of it. Other Saintsationalists and I have gone into way more detail in several other posts over several threads. And any competent professional marketing and promotions people would be able to have an absolute 'field day' coming up with plenty more ideas still.

It's not a contest with only one winner and one loser as the outcome. To the contrary, it's all about mutual synergies producing mutual benefits. Win-win.

Words dave that mean nothing. How does us being at CV home ground help them Dodders said on radio the other day he would rather be on their own so he is against you and I reckon he knows a bit more about this than both of us.

i have to agree 100% with jones

http://www.theage.com.au/sport/cricket/ ... 24pnm.html

"The previous state government already committed $8 million, which is in this year's budget, to redevelop Moorabbin as a football centre. The City of Kingston topped it up with a further $1.5 million. So there is already $9.5 million sitting there to redevelop Moorabbin as a dedicated football centre. So what do they want? Maybe this lack of direction and constant change is why St Kilda is languishing at the bottom of the AFL ladder.

The AFL have claimed they can raise $10 million to $20 million to make up the funding shortfall at the Junction Oval for a co-development, where they would be compromised day to day by sharing with cricket. Why don't they put the same (or less) money on top of that already committed to Moorabbin, and have the club as the primary tenant of a brilliant new, dedicated football base"
