Aren't u guys all missing the point of the PSD...

you don't get a good player in the PSD, you use it to strong arm a club into trading a good player at less then market value with the threat of that player coming to us via the PSD.

Yep makes sense if it was true but clubs don't fall for that anymore because other clubs don't use that. Just delete it from the system IMO.

Sounds like made up rubbish about Jack unless we are talking this year and 5 years ago. And I have no idea on why anyone would trade for Jack unless they are on drugs.

Isn't the point though that player X wants to leave club Y and has nominated St.Kilda as his preferred choice and is willing to go through the PSD to get there. In that scenario, the only way it doesn't work is if the player isn't committed

I can't see how it doesn't work

Because cluns know that wont happen. Things have changed and threatening is basically over.

Pick 1 & 2 would be very nice.
The old criteria was five wins in two years, we will eclipse that. The AFL will also say that due to our recruiting we are heading in the right direction and it's not required.

Our only 'hope' of getting decent compo is by requesting it, coming out and saying everyone in the AFL agrees we deserve one - then losing a player and having it disguised as free agency compo.

Steven, Gilbert and Joey are FAs I believe. Steven is a must keep imo. Gilbert will not be wanted and Joey too old.

So basically, the only way we could get another top pick is by losing Steven, and that would be pretty disastrous not to mention counterproductive even if it netted a Treloar type

That is the reason. Blubs don't use it as a threat anymore because clubs now try to do deals no matter what. Very occasionally one slips through like Lamb last year and Tutt this year but no good players are taken that way. Hoping we will get a star or use it as a threat would suggest we could have don't it this year when we knew we finished last but alas we only got one player who had played one game in 2 years. Im sure there were many uncontracted players we could have had a chat to and suggested that we take them that way but even they don't want their previous club to get no return. Why will we all of a sudden use the PSD next year when we haven't even finished last yet and not this year when we know we finished last?

Doesn't this in fact qualify that it does work. Clubs are getting deals done... hence it's working well, hence they're not getting through to the PSD

As far as players not wanting to stooge their current clubs... that's all well and good but there'll always be the odd jaded player that doesn't care or is angry

No they aren't using it as a threat. They get deals done to keep in with the other clubs and because players want to do the right thing. It has nothing to do with the PSD threat. If that draft wasn't there then the same deals would be done. Anyway all these points are irrelevant. The main point is stars aren't going to go through to the PSD. If we are to get a star it will be a trade or FA. Forget Cameron or Treloar in the PSD.

I'd trade Jack for 2 top 10 picks perhaps

Yep but not because of the PSD.

If there was no PSD the players would still leave if they wanted to though so it makes no difference. Again my point is we wont get a star through the PSD for what ever reason you like.

I think you are wrong. I have said for months that the PSD is just about finished. It doesn't get any good players and only one player was taken this year. If we didn't have it nothing would change. We will not get a star in the PSD and the PSD wont make a club trade.
