Do we really need another big guy? We have three and a half ruckmen (Hickey, Longer, Pierce, Holmes) and a bunch of tall forwards (Riewoldt, Lee, McCartin, White, Bruce, maybe Goddard). They can't all get games.MCG-Unit wrote:Sam Grimley could have been that Fwd/Ruck option - but I think the bigtime Hawker have commited to him as a Rookie.

I was agreeing with a poster, that Grimley Might have been ok, except he looks like going to Hawthorn.bergholt wrote:Do we really need another big guy? How many of those 10 you mentioned above can play both Forward and Ruck - like Stanley could, and I'm quite sure Sam Grimley can?
Not one of them have proven it. Maybe that's why they have McKernan doing the pre-season.....

Wouldn't we be more likely to look at the best player missed in the draft first, considering we picked up Membrey and McKenzie?kosifantutti wrote:I'm not sure I agree with this. http://m.theage.com.au/afl/trading-and- ... 1yq02.html

Maybe if Saad is about 2nd or third pick but No.1?

Picking Saad at 1 smacks as a big PR stunt.
The bloke is 25 and didn't do much before he took the drink, was sliding downhill quickly.
If we take him with 1, I assume they assumed Carlscum would nab him with their first pick.

Re: WHO WILL WE TAKE ON WEDNESDAY?
Just maybe we rate Saad as the best player available... He's already played some very good football at the highest level, which in reality, most rookies will never do.

Spot on, I would still rate him as the best player available.dragit wrote:Just maybe we rate Saad as the best player available... He's already played some very good football at the highest level, which in reality, most rookies will never do.

Given we have already made a commitment to schneider I would think the chances of us drafting saad are slim to none.

Re: WHO WILL WE TAKE ON WEDNESDAY?
the thing with Saad is that his best is clearly AFL standard, his work rate and ability to tackle are a key feature of his game and when he gets it right... well he certainly offers more than Schneider.
I was bitterly disappointed with his second season with us but if he's improved... we could do worse

Re: WHO WILL WE TAKE ON WEDNESDAY?
Nice kid but opposition teams had worked him out in his 2nd year and he had become ineffectual ! Too one sided with no marking abilities, would much rather let him go to someone else and take the best available, plus Le Grice.Bunk_Moreland wrote:Wouldn't we be more likely to look at the best player missed in the draft first, considering we picked up Membrey and McKenzie?kosifantutti wrote:I'm not sure I agree with this. http://m.theage.com.au/afl/trading-and- ... 1yq02.html

Re: WHO WILL WE TAKE ON WEDNESDAY?
I am a Saad fan....but there looks to be some good mids available who may not last till our second pick, and with us gaing McCartin and Goddard we still look light on for mids.
The annoying thing too is if the EFC players do cop a 12 month ban...just watch the AFL bend the rules to allow the EFC to play other players without having to delist the banned players.

Keitel/McLaren - Key position swingmen, pinch hit in ruck.
Saad/Petrenko, pace - forward pressure.
Markov/Schloithe. Pace - mids.

I think there's a good chance…MC Gusto wrote:Surely we wouldn't use pick 1 on saad unless we thought he was the best of the bunch?
As pointed out by punter on BF
Going from his 2011 combine results, if he was in this years draft pool he would be
20m sprint 2.86s (Would have come 2nd this draft camp to that US bloke Marvin Baynham
Repeat sprint 23.64s - first in this draft
Agility Test 7.86s - first by a country mile from Clem Smith with 8.09s
He's certainly not the complete package, but he has some genuine elite traits.

Re: WHO WILL WE TAKE ON WEDNESDAY?
I agree plus he's going to have a pretty solid body as he hasn't played a lot of footy. He could play another 8 years IMO. Apparently there is much left any one rates too highly.dragit wrote:I think there's a good chance…MC Gusto wrote:Surely we wouldn't use pick 1 on saad unless we thought he was the best of the bunch?

Can't another team get him in the pre-season draft?
If we were strategic enough you could argue we pick Saad and have Schneider work on him in the VFL.

Looking at everything the club is doing to set up for the future - i will be very unhappy if the club keeps schneider over Saad
It doesn't make sense

I think Carlton are the only club expected to use the PSD but are tipped to take ex-dog Jason Tutt.millarsaint wrote:Can't another team get him in the pre-season draft?

Saad will be rookied by someone no doubt, so I think if we do want him it will probably need to be with our first pick.

Re: WHO WILL WE TAKE ON WEDNESDAY?
Pretty disappointed not to see Josh Glen promoted as our first pick on this board. Great kick and nerveless kick for goal, and can play in all parts of the ground, which is what we said we liked about McKenzie. We showed guts to pick up Templeton last year. Even though he was predicted to go high in the draft by many pundits clubs were shy of him because of his size and because he was said to have a healthy ego. Lets not get put off by 2 year old spats between Glen and his junior footy coach. He's the best available by some distance for mine and we're lucky to get first shot at him.

Re: WHO WILL WE TAKE ON WEDNESDAY?
if we take Saad can't help but think we could have taken him more cheaply by broadcasting to other clubs we aimed to recollect him.
after all Saad and the club were pretty unfortunate in what happened. surely the other clubs would execute a 'hands off' if we stated our intention.
would like to have him back at the club.

Re: WHO WILL WE TAKE ON WEDNESDAY?
Hoping we go for Daniel Capiron with one of our picks. Was slated to be top 10 this time last year, so obviously something has not gone right for him this year but still a very skillful player. His old man played for the Saints (reserves) back in the day and the family are mad Sainters.
