Goddard : Thank you Blues
Well I for one thought that we would just miss out at 21 on getting a player that we would be delighted with.
Blues however pulled a surprise and went for Blaine Boekhorst passing over both Laverde and Goddard.
So thank you Blues
I am very happy to have gotten Goddard at 21

My thoughts exactly. They did us a big favour there.
Clueless and mediocre petty tyrant.

Re: Goddard : Thank you Blues
Blues have had an interesting trade and draft period...
They could easily have gone backwards big time as they have taken some big risks with a lot of question mark players.
If I was a Blues fan, I would be very nervous about the next few years.

Re: Goddard : Thank you Blues
I have seen zero of Goddard but why the excitement...
I heard a review on radio this arvo and they said he is a backman and showed very little when played forward.
So not sure why the love and mentioning him as a Stanley replacement.

CHB that we really needed....lack of tall defenders has been ignored in all the Petracca vs McCartin debate.
When Fisher and Dempster go we only have Delaney back there and an injured Gilbert.
Looks like the KPP draft for us...elite mids next year

As long as this draft has the quality on KPP and we ain't just taking anyone over 193cm out of panic - if we've missed a Judd (Petracca) to draft a Hampson (Goddard) I'll be mighty pissedfugazi wrote:CHB that we really needed....lack of tall defenders has been ignored in all the Petracca vs McCartin debate.

Re: Goddard : Thank you Blues
We were also lucky that there were 4 KPDs that were rated as high draft picks this year...
Marchbank, Durdin, Lever, Goddard...
So any club looking for a KPD had been satsified..
In another year, Goddard may have been rated as the best KPD in the draft, in which case he could have gone as early as 7 to GWS...
Anyway, lets hope we have solved our tall KPD delima which nearly lead to a suicidal trade with WCE for Brown 2 years ago...
77+21 for Delany and Goddard is looking a **lot** better than 24+25 for Brown

Re: Goddard : Thank you Blues
Was a star as a under aged player but did not set the world alight this year. But still rates elite with intercept marks and spoils on champion data rankings and only got beaten 3 times in one on one contests. maybe his form as a forward made him slide. But could still be developed as a swingman.
The point is we have swapped a inconsistent forward for a 10+year CHB. I would take that IMO, especially with paddy coming in.
How close was the steal of the decade in laverde. Points to bombers for this steal. but very happy with hugh.

oh.. and Carlton are in for a decade of pain...
The next 2 years they may scrape ahead of us.. but will still be bottom 4...
After that... it is downward from there for them

It is not because of where he will play, but rather that we swapped Stanley for pick 21 which has been used to select Goddard.Royston wrote:I have seen zero of Goddard but why the excitement...

Hugh Goddard
Hugh continues the love for the Geelong Falcons this year with Paddy impressing our recruiters as well.
If he ends up pushing himself into contention for a major defensive post i'll be relieved as i was feeling a bit uneasy with our ageing defenders.
Hope Spud can help Hugh get to the next level.
Wishing HG all the best and happy he has joined our Saintly fold.
GO SAINTS!

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.

Blaine Boekhorst was rated a "smokey" but Carlton used a first round pick 19 on him.
They had picks 28, 60, 63, 71, 82, 87 still up their sleeves.
Was anyone else going to take Boekhorst before 28 ?
Boekhorst is from WA but neither Fremantle or West Coast had a pick between 20 and 27.
Carlton left Jayden Laverde & Hugh Goddard both still available to Essendon
Essendon could only take one.
They took the forward midfielder Laverde leaving us Hugh Goddard.
I can imagine Brendon Goddard giving the Essendon recruiters a mouth full or at least a jab of Thymosin Beta 4 for ignoring Hugh.

Tweet posted on bigfooty from Boekhorst from May absolutely slamming Carlton and Malthouse.
Absolutely hilarious. Saying his new teammates and Malthouse all had to go.
