We have to get the ball to McCartin.
Next year we take the best midfielder with pick No 1.
Does anyone know his name ?

Give it a few years and we should be able to get Lachie Weller on a come home.

Very very happy with how the draft went. Really like all four players. Lonie looks like a star in the making. Should be a fan favourite. Our team is starting to take shape with the addition of key position players Mccartin and Godard. Mckenzie looks a gun as well and being a left footer is handy.

Perhaps we shouldn't take too much from the highlights packages. Before last year's draft I saw Dunstan's highlights reel and it looked like nothing. When we drafted him my heart sank. How wrong I was. A thought for the McCartin doubters.

interesting we were the fourth best clearance team last year. So that is not a issue. Our run and carry is a big worry but can be fixed in the next draft. Long term drafting this.
Agreed, this screams of being part of a long term plan with an eye to what type of players are available in a number of drafts in a row, and not just jumping on whatever comes up with each year not considered in relation to other years.

Draft - Parish and Mathesian

DFA or PSD - Treloar, Shiel

Well... if you want to draft Parish and Mathessan... then we want to OFFLOAD in a FA,

i.e. we need a club to want Armitage for 4 years on a Frawley sized contract, to get picks 1+2 next year
(or 2+3 or 3+4)

Bringing in a FA is only good idea once we start moving up the ladder.. think 2017

We will have a red-hot go at Treloar or Shiel in 11 months time.

Mids on the list:

Armo, Dunstan, Acres, Billings, Steven, Monty, Newnes, Wright, Weller, Ray, Murdoch, Curren, Savage....possibly Shenton, Webster, Templeton

and now McKenzie

Would have been nice to add the elite quality of Petracca, but get the best mid next year and we should find at least 8 - 10 very good players from the list above, only Monty is not a long term proposition.

IMO - I think Murdoch , Templeton and Acres will join Billings and Dunstan as A-grade players

one of these lads

Rhys Mathieson (Geelong Falcons)
The winner of the Kevin Sheehan Medal for the Best Player in Division 1 at the AFL U16 Championship, Mathieson is a tough inside ball winner who is a very capable goal-kicker as a forward. He’s been a very consistent performer for the Falcons and Vic Country, I expect that to continue next year. His biggest area for improvement is his outside game, which he will need to take to another level if he is to be a top 3 pick in the 2015 Draft.

Darcy Parish (Geelong Falcons)
A do-it-all midfielder for the Geelong Falcons, Darcy Parish can also play in defence. He’s very polished, but also quite quick. He hits the contest hard and has fantastic contested ball winning ability, but by far his biggest asset is his blend of inside grunt and outside polish. There aren’t too many players that can show both class when receiving and a rugged side like Parish. A bit like the Swans’ Isaac Heeney.

Nick O’Kearney (Calder Cannons)
Winner of the Calder Cannons Best & Fairest as a bottom-aged player, Nick O’Kearney was one of two players born in 1997 named on the 40-man Vic Metro squad in 2014. ‘The Running Man’ O’Kearney has fantastic endurance and a brilliant football brain, he just knows how, when and where to find the footy. He averaged 25 disposals and 5 clearances per game for the Calder Cannons in 2014 and is expected to produce similar numbers next year.

Watts? 41 maybe.

4 & 6 was Pickett and Ahern

look when all is said and done i feel like we did the right thing with pick 1.

petracca probably isnt even the best mid in this years draft (heeney probably is) - so using a pick on the the 2nd or 3rd best mid may have been a waste of pick 1.

Gotta say.. I liked the attitude of both Goddard and McCartin..

McCartin really said the right things.. he gets nothing more or less than anyone else... if you are drafted 1 or 71, you have basically the same opportunity..

Goddard was in many peoples eyes a slider.. yet he was just happy to find a club.. no bruised ego.. again.. just wants an opportunity to try to make it..

I guess a reflection of Elshaugh's "good blokes" policy

lets hope they can also play!

We have drafted for 3 or 4 years down the track. We have also ensure another 2 or 3 years on the bottom. May sound extreme but the players we got will have no real impact for at least 2 years. It is a very risky strategy but to me it is a risk worth taking after so many years failing to win a flag. It isn't a draft that will keep AR though. I see 3 years on the bottom and I doubt any coach can survive that.

Absolutely wrapped with what we got last night. Like a few others I was leaning towards Petracca, but it's funny, after watching interviews and learning a little more about the players personalities, I think we may have dogged a bullet with Petracca. Got a little too much arrogance and we've seen too may players of this type fall by the wayside once the reality of AFL football kicks in.Not wishing him any ill, just a gut feeling.Paddy really seems to have his head screwed on the right way. Goddard is a great get and DMac and Lonie are both solid pick ups.

The fact DMac tested so well at the combine shows, with the right application, he could be anything and Lonie has all the traits of one S.Milne (no pressure)

Also like the fact Paddy,HG and Lonie all played together at Vic Country. they would already have a good understanding of each others game which can only help when they are finally on the field together. Time will tell, of course, but I think we done good. Go Saints!
