Re: Stephen Milne fined $15,000 with no conviction
Right result, given the timeframe and and everything else.
FWIW, was finishing up in Court when the report of the decision came in and all those around the bar table agreed it was the right outcome given the circumstances.
If only everyone hadn't had to go through the intervening 10 or so years.
Good luck to both sets of parties moving forward.

It s***s me how the media always manage to get our emblem or jumper into any negative publicity for our Club
and how other Clubs get bad news on page 2 with no jumper or emblems. Watch how they handle Essendon.

Although Peta Serle and the NZ woman who sits on the board (whose name escapes me at the movement) have completely dispelled this myth with the comment they have made about the inclusive nature of the culture at the Saints.SainterK wrote:Bad media still around, our brand & reputation in regards to women needs a lot of work...heaps of work

Hi K, I honestly don't believe that is justified at all, but unfortunately you (and Owen) are probably right.SainterK wrote:Bad media still around, our brand & reputation in regards to women needs a lot of work...heaps of work

In the Islamic Caliphate both women would have been stoned to death for having sex out of marriage.stinger wrote:or if he was james hird, the cops would have charged the girl.....White Winmar wrote:I'm just glad this farce is finally over. An absolute disgrace that it lasted this long. Incompetence, expedience, grandstanding etc. As an ex detective/investigator, I cannot believe how poorly this was handled. I always have sympathy for alleged victims, but in this case it seems that Milne's status as a sporting celebrity, led to his downfall. If he had've been Joe "average", this whole case would've died a quick death at the time.
Milne would have gone unpunished by pleading that he was tempted by the women.
If Milne had not been drafted by St Kilda but went from Essendon Reserves to Essendon's list, the Caliph James Hird would have put the women to death.

Getting back to footy, I would not mind having Milney back again. He would have one or two seasons left in him.

There were no winners in this case. Thank god it is finally over.
Now, do people such as Mick Malthouse have the guts to apologise? I think Malthouse has a lot to answer to in his irresponsible act of publicly exacerbating the problem.

Do people pretend that it's not the case though, K? Or do they question the injustice of it being so? Or something else...?SainterK wrote:Don't know why people pretend its not the case.Dave McNamara wrote:oh when the wrote:It s***s me how the media always manage to get our emblem or jumper into any negative publicity for our Club

Lets see some legit progress, not further evidence that people at the club don't particularly care much about it.
And could you elaborate on...
"Lets see some legit progress, not further evidence that people at the club don't particularly care much about it."?
Why don't you think that the club cares? What would you like to see the club do? Ta.

Dave, with your love of Milney; your strong desire to see woman progresss in AFL coaching and your love of the loony nut job Greens, I think your REAL fantasy is to see Christine in the box next to AR!

Encapsulated perfectly.Sainternist wrote:There were no winners in this case. Thank god it is finally over.
it is a known fact that Malthouse is not well educated. he bluffs his way through with folksy pseudo-intellectualism and poorly reasoned revisionist history and poor and out of context quotes.Sainternist wrote:Now, do people such as Mick Malthouse have the guts to apologise? What you saw from Malthouse that night was the real Malthouse, an under educated, Neanderthal.

worth the read...
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/law-or ... 7131661683
"After 10 years of being baited as a “rapist”, Milne has been fined for the lesser charge of indecent assault. That puzzles a former detective who has followed the case closely.
“Either he’s guilty of rape or he’s guilty of nothing,” he says of Milne, suggesting the indecent assault conviction is a legally-finessed compromise to quell criticism of police and prosecutors. “If he had been Joe Average this would never have gone ahead.”
What complicated the case, he says, is that partisan police (meaning St Kilda barrackers) were not content “to let it die a natural death” but heavy-handedly tried to intervene on Milne’s behalf. Thereby proving that not all football club groupies are young and female. Some are club committeemen and some wear blue uniforms.
Attempting to “help” Milne was a bad move. Any perception of police interference guaranteed that the case would be aired publicly and at length, putting pressure on both sides and on the authorities. The result was a sort of nil-all draw, a compromise that lets everyone pretend justice has been done."
