Danny Frawley
Danny Frawley was a beacon throughout the 80's and 90 s. He was our longest serving captain until Riewoldt overtook him this year. Frawley was champion of our club.
Frawley has been an assistant coach at Collingwood, head coach at Richmond, head of the coaches association and now the 'key position' development coach at Hawthorn.
My question is: has this club champion done enough to help our club in the 20 years since he's retired? Wouldn't he make a great football manager at St.Kildap or something similar?

Re: Danny Frawley
My understanding was that Spud originally went to other clubs to gain experience, and the plan was to come back to us as assistant coach to Barks. But alas, was never to be.

That committee is actually chaired by Saintsational's own True Believer... Danny makes TB's coffee, keeps his appointment diary up to date, and books his flights.
Wasn't he also on our 'Team of the Century' selection panel(?) Didn't give himself a spot either.Eastern wrote:Wasn't he also on the sub committee that recommends life members etc? !!

Welcome home spud.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Re: Danny Frawley
Thank god for big miracles!
This is possibly the best appointment we've made for years.
Spud IS a top bloke and WILL get respect.
I wonder if he'll replace Richo in a few years??

Re: Danny Frawley
In all seriousness, has Spud been out of the game too long? What does he offer (besides his love of the red white and black)?
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Pfft - how in hell would you know if he is any good or not?saintspremiers wrote:Thank god for big miracles!

Failed as a senior coach, not even an assistant coach anywhere, and only offered part time coaching.
So how does that equate with "the best appointment we have made for years"
And I believe Frawley will NEVER be a senior coach again. For a start he has health issues, secondly he has media commitments, thirdly he was an ordinary senior coach.
Happy to have a past player back, but some realism please

Re: Danny Frawley
Well the premiers thought he had worth, so in the context of a part time defensive coach, yes it can be assumed he still offers valueJacks Back wrote:In all seriousness, has Spud been out of the game too long? What does he offer (besides his love of the red white and black)?

Re: Danny Frawley
Still rated by very highly by many of the players who worked with him at Collingwood, particularly for his teaching ability.
Perfect role for him - gets to utilise his mentoring and teaching skills, both of which are clearly outstanding.

Re: Danny Frawley
Experience in Coaches Association also must be worth something. Will probably act in an unofficial mentoring role for Richo.

It's always good to have some heart and soul around the place for a club that has little identity these days.

He was the CEO of the association. I know someone who worked for him and spoke very highly of spud.
