If anyone comes by phantom drafts, can you place the links here.
I'll start with a couple:

Paige Cardona (draft expert) - http://www.paigecardona.com and her most recent analysis - http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/p ... 0.1080239/
General Phantom Draft talk (usually quite good with no trolling) - http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/forums/ph ... rafts.284/

Re: Phantom Draft
I hope that Paige is right, and that Cockatoo is still there for us.
And I hope she's wrong re Garlett (too small and lightly built... and Cockatoo's tricks looks better again),
and re McKenzie (too lumbering).

Re: Phantom Draft
As FQF said he was an under acceptable height key marking CHF who was dominating as an under ager. They told him that if he was to make it in the AFL he would need to become a mid. He hired a running coach and reinvented himself as a dominant midfielder and lost the weight. Membrey is probably going to have to do similar unless he can be so dominant that his height doesn't matter. We could actually find ourselves with an incredibly overstocked forward line next year with Billings not ready to move into a mid role, Petracca resting most of the time there with short runs on the ball and Membrey, Lee, White, Siposs, Markworth and a resting second ruck all trying to find a spot. Murdoch, Schnieder and Saunders will really need to play well to get a spot.FQF wrote:He was a marking forward and turned into a midfielder. Interesting that Rose, McClean and Maynard all list in the 50's. I'm not sure this will eventuate.gringo wrote:Best one on Big footy is usually Knight mare. http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/k ... ft.1060197
Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.
You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

They hear the whispers and are pretty close to the mark (esp top 10 or so) a few days before the draft, but months out they are very very different. It's not an easy gig and they do a wonderful job, from here on in I would suggest it's getting pretty close to the mark.

Re: Phantom Draft
I saw Taylor Grace was in the 40s somewhere too. I think KM is involved in recruiting at AFL level or at least very well connected and tends to have a better grasp of the interstate kids than most phantom draft "experts". I guess there is always a few sliders and it is a subjective list. He rates some higher than others would. He tends to get the order pretty right though.kalsaint wrote:Interesting that Rose, McClean and Maynard all list in the 50's. Re: Phantom Draft
The ever shifting sands shift again...
Petracca and Cockatoo! The best two in the draft (IMHO ). Now that would be something. I'm hoping anyway...
The tip for our selection 41 is a bit strange though. Yet another ruckman/forward??? Unless we see him as a potential CHB(?)
The personal assessments are interesting... quite a few differences from the projected selection order.
I still reckon that quite a few of the highly rated on-ballers are too lightly built to successfully compete at AFL level.
And I still don't get the love for McOneTricken...
Anyway, the big day looms ever closer.
Well, if this Knightmare guy (or gal?) really is on the money, considering that many (most?) rate Garlett ahead of the Cockatoo... we may just be in with a chance.#20 Essendon (to be taken at end of first round) – Nakia Cockatoo (NT – Mid)
Height: 188cm, Weight: 84kg, DOB: 23/10/1996
Recruited from: NT Thunder
Range: 10-30
Profile: Talented midfielder.
#21 St Kilda (via Brisbane from Brisbane from GWS) (end of first round compensation) - Jarrod Garlett (WA –Mid/Def)
Height: 177cm, Weight: 72kg, DOB: 18/08/1996
Recruited from: South Fremantle
Range: 15-30
Profile: Outside linebreaker.
#22 St Kilda – Edward Vickers-Willis (VIC – Mid/Def)
Height: 190cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 28/03/1996
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons
Range: 10-30
Profile: Tall, versatile type.
#41 St Kilda – Matthew Hammelmann (Brisbane - Academy - QLD – KPF/KPD)
Height: 198cm, Weight: 88kg, DOB: 08/03/1996
Recruited from: Morningside
Range: 30-rookie
Profile: Tall leading forward.

Re: Phantom Draft
Hammillman is the guy who was expected to go to Brisbane because he was an academy player. They didn't select him and it's dropped his value I think. He is supposedly a one trick pony according to some on BF. A lead up tall forward with out many other skills or points of difference. I don't think he's a ruck man just a very tall forward by the sound of it.Dave McNamara wrote:The ever shifting sands shift again...

Re: Phantom Draft
KM now has us taking Petracca, Duggan, Garlett & Rose.
As I said earlier, it'll change numerous times, is that 6 different players in the matter of days for 21/22, its a tough gig.
Hard to believe he even now has Weller sliding to 17 which is the lowest I've seen him.
I noticed he now has Webb around the 50 mark after a lot of big footy love recently. I am still keen with 41.
I'd love for the draft to hurry up though...

Garlett IMHO is way to small for the AFL. Cockatoo's bag of tricks looked (even) better also.

big write up on jarrod in this week's inside footy......good photo....ball of muscle......ambidextrous too.....180cm.....not to small....light on at 69ks at this stage...but he's just turned 18......inside and outside mid who can play forward......speed agility , pace and dash linexbreaker with excellent disposal on both sides of the body......has played senior footy as well as colts........a wa club will grab him if possible......cousin to cruize, jeff and dayle......

Re: Phantom Draft
Fair enough Sting. First assessment of him as being capable of playing an inside role though. He clearly has special skills, but I do remain worried re his slight build. Attitude seems excellent. So if he can bulk up enough for AFL footy, there's nothing much else missing.stinger wrote: big write up on jarrod in this week's inside footy......good photo....ball of muscle......ambidextrous too.....180cm.....not to small....light on at 69ks at this stage...but he's just turned 18......inside and outside mid who can play forward......speed agility , pace and dash linexbreaker with excellent disposal on both sides of the body......has played senior footy as well as colts........a wa club will grab him if possible......cousin to cruize, jeff and dayle......
As far as the relo's go... the only one that I rate has 'issues', that mean he's very very unlikely to ever grace an AFL field.
I still hope we can get the Cockatoo... he's a bloke that people will end-up coming through the gate just to watch, I reckon.
This draft will be very interesting to see what our recruiters can conjure for us.

Good point WO. He's certainly come on in the last season or so.WinnersOnly wrote:I think you wilk find Hill from the Hawks was about the weight when drafted...
That said, I'd be interested to see how he'd do in a weaker side.
That said, IMHO we won't be a 'weaker side' for as long as some people fear.

KM changed his selections again.
Rose now in the 50s and we are now taking ANB with 22. He now has DeGoey @ 5!! We'd been discussing him at 21 a fortnight ago! Between 5 and 25 is such a huge guess this year. KM best in the business and is clearly rattled judging by all of his changes
