Shaun McKernan for Stanley?
Hi Guys,
Not sure if this has been raised already but how about the prospect of bringing in Shaun McKernan from Adelaide with a view to possibly having a ready made replacement for Rhys Stanley. Not sure that he's as good as Rhys is (on a good day) but might be worth considering if we can get him for a low pick / rookie. He has shown glimpses at Adelaide and probably just needs regular game time to kick start his career.

Dunno much about him but I think he might be done at AFL level.
This guy to to me sums up using earlyish picks on tall guys (pick 28). Just so risky. You really never can tell.

Probably stick with what we have for me.
You never know how good he could be one day.
Minson was a dud until 2013 then AA

The ruckman is a footy mystery
You just never know. Form is so up and down. The consistent ones over long careers are bloody rare when you think about it.

We don't need a replacement for Rhys Stanley.Watts the Buzz wrote:Hi Guys,

We need a tall forward who can lead intelligently to create a spread and grab marks, who can kick straight, kicking goals, who can apply forward pressure and run down opponents, who can play as a second ruckman providing relief for our main ruck.
Rhys Stanley could not do these things.

Shaun McKernan
If he can help us win games, I am NOT interested in him.
If he can help us win a premiership then I am interested in him.
Just look at the skill and the intensity of Hawthorn in the grand final.
Whenever Sydney went near the ball, Hawthorn players were warming over them.
Sydney could not breathe.
When Hawthorn had the ball they delivered incredibly accurately by hand and by foot.
Players who do not have that intensity and level of skill are merely list cloggers.

We have already made ourselves dizzy on a rucking merry go round these last few years. Can we just hop it for a while. I dont want to see anyone over 198cm in or out of the club for 24 months. 2 year Moratorium on super tall blokes.

Re: Shaun McKernan for Stanley?
Plenty of players trail at clubs doesn't mean we will pick him up
You are garbage - Enough said
Re: Shaun McKernan for Stanley?
Worth a rookie spot in my opinion as he could be a ruck forward as opposed to the only ruck players we have.
Didn't see enough of him, but you would imagine a very long shot to make it.

I picked this.......just call me Nostradamus!
I see him as more of an option up forward, we've got more than enough ruckmen - looking forward to seeing how Lewie Pierce comes on next year - think he'll be a good 'un.

Re: Shaun McKernan for Stanley?
At best, he would be hoping for a rookie spot. We are fools if we even remotely consider using pick 41 on him.
At first, I thought wft, no hope in hell of picking him up. Part of me still thinks this way, but look at our big men - Hickey, Longer, Pierce, Holmes, Lee, White - all these guys are injury prone, not yet physically developed and inexperienced. I don't think the 25 year old McKernan is the answer to our problems, but as a rookie and as insurance - recruiting him to the rookie list isn't a terrible idea.

Re: Shaun McKernan for Stanley?
The couple of games I saw him play I when he was first on the scene...I thought this guy will be good. Haven't seen much of him since.
Seemed to be a good mark and hard at it....wouldn't worry me if he took up a rookie spot.

Nee!
Re: Shaun McKernan for Stanley?
Trade an average tall athletic forward/ruck, draft an average tall athletic forward/ruck to the rookie list and pocket pick 21 in the process.
And there are people complaining?

Re: Shaun McKernan for Stanley?
Some articles saying he is 25 some 24 - Wikipedia says born sept 1 1990--- that makes him just turned 24 if my maths is any good. I would think p66 might be on board for taking him as a rookie - fits his key back profile - mature aged ready to go, converted key forward to to key back - I would rookie him on that basis---- he is talking the talk - hopefully he will train likewiseSt Ick wrote:At best, he would be hoping for a rookie spot. Im completely off board getting him as a rookie. We have already upgraded 4 rookies who have had AFL experience as well and Membury and maybe even Saad as a rookie. Lets get new blood in and take the punt on getting a star or a hack. Getting proven ordinary players into our side keeps us ordinary and if anything makes us worse in the long run. I don't think he is a key back and secondly its to early to get another proven key back.
