.”Sydney are going to come back to us when their plans are clearer,” Pelchen said.
“We’ve said if we can get you a selection higher up the order which is of benefit to you then we’re willing to do a trade, if not then they understand that Tim is returning home.
“It won’t be done out of malice (if he joins through the pre-season draft).
“We have full confidence in our recruiting staff to deliver on the list strategy. Their level of research and planning is the equal of any in the competition.”
Pelchen said Membrey had quizzed the Saints on their forward set up, leadership model, Leading Teams program, the values of the club and selection integrity before committing.
“We were really pleased that he did, because it wasn’t just about coming back and taking it for granted, he wanted to make inquiries about how the club was operating

Completely agree we must use the PSD aggressively….plugger66 wrote:The saints need to trade for Membury. The Swans don't want anymore picks but we need to find a pick 70 or so so that we trade for him even though they wont use as we did when we got King. I don't rate the PSD and we wont get a star but we do have pick one so lets at least use it on something that could be better than Membury especially since the Swans want nothing for him.

Spoke to a keen Swans supporter yesterday and many of them were excited about Membrey stepping up in 2015 for a senior forward role, so it sounds like we are getting a highly regarded player from a successful club.

Re: Tim membrey
My understanding is
If Sydney chooses to delist Membrey then he can be a delisted free agent.
Under that circumstance St Kilda could take him and Sydney get no compensation.
St Kilda would not lose their pre-season draft pick.
If Sydney do NOT delist Membrey his contract expires and he becomes eligible to nominate for the main draft and/or the pre-season draft.
If he only nominates for the pre-season draft then St Kilda must spend the pe-season draft pick.
Bains has said Membrey will be taken in the pre-season draft but that in itself may cause Sydney to delist him ahead of the main draft thus making him a delisted free agent.
Give him Sydney, he lost to you.

It appears he will be vying for a place in our forward line with a player that he holds a one game advantage over, Markworth. And also Sipposs.

Don't know if this has been posted or not.
Prior to being drafted in 2012.
Not a bad read and sounds like it is not a bad pick up for nothing.

He spent most of this year playing on a wing, which is where he'll be aiming to line up if he gets a game for the saints.stinger wrote:more of a mid sized half forward at this stage....well...that's where he mostly played in the vfl...bergholt wrote:Markworth's a midfielder, isn't he?borderbarry wrote:It appears he will be vying for a place in our forward line with a player that he holds a one game advantage over, Markworth. Think Markworth's more of a wingman/half-forward type....

ST KILDA will seek the AFL's permission for Tim Membrey to start pre-season training with the club before he officially becomes a Saint on December 3.
The Saints are committed to taking the Sydney Swans' forward with the first selection in the NAB AFL Pre-season Draft after failing to trade for him.
They are poised to formally notify the AFL of their intention to recruit him, which means they can also look to include him in training sessions ahead of the draft.
Membrey, 20, had a late finish to the year with the NEAFL Grand Final on September 20, where he booted five goals in a losing Swans' team.
AFLPA rules stipulate players must have an unbroken period of eight weeks' leave, meaning he will eligible to start three weeks after the Saints' first-to-four year players return on November 5.

Paperwork will be lodged with the AFL on Saturday, which will see Tim Membrey officially join St Kilda as a de-listed free agent.
The former Swan indicated Linen House Centre was his preferred destination after a deal between the clubs could not be facilitated through the trade period.
Chief Operating Officer Ameet Bains said the 20-year-old would begin training with the Saints when players return on Wednesday.

If he's a delisted free agent then he's just straight onto the list. I thought it wasn't possible because he was offered a contract at the Swans - I guess that was wrong. Good result all round!saint6709 wrote:So do we need to use a draft pick of some sort or is he just signed ?

Swans get nothing after reportedly being "very cooperative" during the trade period. Do the Saints return the favour, or have they already done so?

Re: Tim membrey
I think Siposs and Simpkin need to be worried..
Tim Membrey is a more aggressive, better mark version of Siposs. And will be given opportunities ahead of Siposs.
Don't think Simpkin has a position in the backline.. where we have plenty of half back flankers (gilbert, acres, roberton, shenton)... he's not
tall/big enough to be a key back.. just look at Gwilt. And at 24, is not going to get any better..
I think we will take Shaun Mckernan (24 y/o)... who can play full forward, forward/ruck, or key back. And for what is worth.. I think he is actually a better version of Stanley.. some will argue Stanley is more atheletic.. but I've never seen Stanley taking a hanger or out sprint a defender for a mark. McKernan seems a better footballer, albeit inconsistent like Stanley and is a natural forward/ruck to begin with.
Talyor Hunt is another interesting prospect. speedy small defender who can break the lines and may even play as a run with player... but Richmond seems to be in the box seat for him.

Re: Tim membrey
Now that we can pick up Tim Membrey as a delisted free agent, that frees up our Pre Season Draft pick No 1.
However as it stands we only have 5 senior list vacancies.
With Membrey taking one slot and 4 slots to be used in the main draft (picks Nos 1,21,22,41), and the promotion of Mav Weller onto the senior list we do not have an activated slot for a pre season draft pick.
Someone would have to be delisted.
Delisted free agency could well end up replacing the pre season draft.

One or two may argue but the PSD is just a waste of time. We have pick one this year and now we aren't going to use it and Dave someow thinks next year we can get Cameron with pick one in the PSD when we haven't even got it yet. Just get rid of that draft. Waste of time..
