Using our PSD on a fringe player I do not regard as a win. That should be a bare minimum when you have first pick.
If we had of landed a name player with our PSD I would rate that a win.
Last year was a huge win.
This year it would seem how one rates, depends on how one rates Stanley.

Re: Saints- Pass or Fail for Trade Period?
we traded stanley coz we got lulled into thinking that we can pick up someone better with 21. Last years draft was one of the best ever - and kudos to our recruitment guy they did an excellent job last year. I would be stoked if we can get someone of quality at pick 21, but history suggests you have to be very lucky to snag an A grader with a pick in the 20's.
By the way, why dont they allow clubs to continue trading picks only (ie no players involved) right up to the week of the draft ?. No contracts need to be lodged - it would all be just administrative.

Exactly.Griggsy wrote:I'm just glad we didn't get bullied into giving pick 1 for less than we were asking. Seems the period is nuetral, no fail or win.
They did say they would be active but can't force trades on other clubs, I do believe we would have traded more if gws had pick 3 though.

Yeah but you're disappointed by something not happening that surely was never realistically a chance of happening, IMHO. I mean I would have loved for it to happen as well, but trading pick 1 for 4, 6 & 7 - really? Who would do that?Saints94 wrote:Fail sadly. really wanted those multiple first round picks as I truly believe it would have fast tracked our rebuild big time. Imagine having picks 4,6 & 7.

Since the PSD is after the ND, there will be better players available at pick 41 than in the PSD.
Membrey has committed to us so we can use the national draft to try and find another kid.
If the swans delist him, we can just take him as a delisted free agent too.

Exclude Petracca as he is only available due to poor 2014 performance. What was the trade action pass or fail, not the clubs position as if you are a low club expect presents higher placed clubs wont.bergholt wrote:IN: Petracca, Membrey, players picked at 21, 22, 41

I don't really see how that leaves our list in worse shape going forward?

eitrher way...but there is a maximum no of positions....what i meant was we can take him as a delisted free agent...and then someone else in the psd...we would not then use pick 41...

I am not talking talent basis but more about age and position balance. Yes GWS will always be better of with top picks for now but we still are looking to exchange players from the 23-26 year bracket that we have serious issues with.dragit wrote:Of course it is, we haven't had 25 top 10 draft picks in the last 5 years.kalsaint wrote: I thnk Saints player balance is worse than GWS balance meaning more time downunder.
Fail.
We're not going to fix the list by trading in recycled spuds or giving away pick one for a couple of later picks.

Regardless of what we traded for (young players or picks, no top enders for another two years) we are a moral to be on the bottom again next season8856brother wrote:Our lack of trading this year will almost guarantee pick 1 again next year. Win.
Another #1
Another PSD #1
Rookie Draft #1 for the sliders
Maybe looking to trade our #1 again and maybe there is more interest and better deals next season.
We are in for another world of hurt next season dont have any doubt about that.
But...
The young kids we have are pretty good.
All growing up together - 19 good ens signed
Another preseason so a bit harder of body
Petracca, Membrey and two B+ players and a slider in the draft
The best sliders in the rookie draft.
More pain - but everyone MUST know where we are at.
we should expect improvement in 2016, and start the climb in 2017.
Maybe - just maybe top 8 in 2018.
Hang tough Sainters.

In hindsight, yeah I honestly would delist Simpkin & Sippos if we were to gain 4,6 & 7 as they are deadwood/list cloggers IMO.stinger wrote:Harvey To Hayes wrote:Yeah but you're disappointed by something not happening that surely was never realistically a chance of happening, IMHO. Slight fail.
If we got picks 4 6 and 7 we could've deleted Schneider or Sippa or Lee.
I'm annoyed all those 3 are still on our list

Not sure how we land a name player in the PSD when there isn't any to my knowledge.
The PSD is nearly obsolete these days. No Brett Voss' or Stephen Powell's any more
and that's the bottom line

Re: Saints- Pass or Fail for Trade Period?
Not sure how any one is suggesting having pick one is a win - we went into the trade period with it.
So what have we done?
Stanley for 21. Doesn't seem a win, seems about fair.
Given we went into the trade period looking for multiple first round picks it seems a definite failure to meet our goals.
Picking up Membrey means we can claim a bare C-. Nowadays within our societies lowered standards a C- is considered a pass. So there you go.

Disappointing given we were in a position to get something. Happy we'll get Petracca but unhappy we did one trade and it was for a player I rate for a gamble who might pay off in 4 years or so

#21
#22
Considering two are out (Heeney and Moore) we have virtually what we had last season except we have # 1
Rubbish. -desertsaint wrote:Picking up Membrey means we can claim a bare C-. Nowadays within our societies lowered standards a C- is considered a pass. So there you go.
#1 kept
Stanley overs #21 - win
Membrey - nothing - win
Definate B.
only thing holding us back for an A is that we couldn't get the 4,6,7 done.
If we had 4,6,7, 21,22 Membrey from a position of no trade currency (unlike GWS) it would have been nearing A+
But a B is a fair result.

Re: Saints- Pass or Fail for Trade Period?
I guess - with Pelchen clearly stating 'multiple first round picks' - he is claming success - but 21,22 are right on the cusp of that defintion. So i guess against our own criteria we had a bare pass.
But when push comes to shove - how we use our draft picks is all that matters in the future. Draft picks are just numbers. We need good players.

Stanley for 21
Tried for JOR
Tried for Jaskch
Tried for Boyd
Wouldn't trade the No1 for unders.
How can anyone be disappointed with #1?
Also #1 PSD
Also #1 Rookie
Seems OK. Not fantastic but OK.

Disappointed in the result.
The club told us we would have 3 first round picks. Did not happen.
Fail. Not by much though.

The Member seems very worth the punt.
Rhys? Just don't know what to thing on this one? Would he have eventually found that fire in the belly with us? Will he ever find it with the Hillbillies? I just don't know...
But the main thing... we held our nerve, made the other sweat, and ultimately we didn't hand over the Petracca pick for any piddling not worth it deal.
So, on that last point alone... big pass Saintas!

Re: Saints- Pass or Fail for Trade Period?
Fail.
Because we had a huge chance to bolster our list with some bargains - O'Rourke, Jacksch, Lowden, Giles - and didn't make any of them happen.
We then never had a sniff of the big-ticket deals.
Stanley for 21 was a fair trade, but at a time when our list needs to be upgraded significantly with elite youth at every turn for the next three years - free agency, trade week, draft day, rookie draft - we failed to make it happen.
