Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
Ok so the Pet man plus 21 & 22 looks likely for us.
The woofers get 4 6 7. Three gun players and lose Griff.
Gws get Griff and Patful.
Is this right?

Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
The only problem with what Jaxons said is we were getting Petracca without needing to ship out Stanley. Stupid decision IMO. We will need to get a very good replacement with that pick or plenty will be after Pelchen and Bains. Still have Armo going to Richmond too according to a mate who follows them.WinnersOnly wrote:Thanks Jaxons!jaxons wrote:matrix wrote:jax
are you saying we are seriously looking at shipping stanley off?
id do a stinger
may cancel my memberships
Its pretty much done.
I wouldn't be cancelling any memberships over Rhys Stanley leaving for goodness sake.
We now will have 3 picks in the top 23.
Pettracca will have you thinking about cancelling your membership I promise you!
Obviously the clubs interested in #1 didnt want to give what we asked for... I am not surprised we traded Rhys would rather him this year than Armo or Steven to give our younger mids more development time.
With Bruce likely to play forward WHO will our 2nd key defender be?

Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
mmm...still only leaves us with 1 pick inside the first round, whatever spin you put on it, and 'inside 23'...23 isnt a magic draft number. After talking about 'stocking up on talent' all year, this is an underwhelming influx of draft picks imo.saintsRrising wrote:Good. I rate Petracca a lot higher than Wright or McCartin and also believe we need good mids a lot more than good key forwards at present. A good mid is also a lower risk pick.jaxons wrote:saintsRrising wrote:So are you saying we will have pick 1, but not use it on Petracca (ie you comment on Petracca and cancelling memberships?jaxons wrote:We are likely to give them also a lower pick we won't use to sweeten the deal.
Stanley played 2 good games in 2014.
Was playing at Sandringham mid year.
Unlikely to trade pick #1, so we will enter the draft period with picks #1,21,22 and 41.
Which means 1 for McCartin or Wright since Stanley is being shipped off.
Sorry if you read that incorrectly.
I meant the acquisition of Pettracca will have you rethinking the comment about cancelling memberships.
Pettracca is a gun, and barring some last minute madness, he will be a Saint.
The only way we will trade pick #1 is if the Griffen deal falls over and GWS give us #4 & #7, otherwise we will be keeping #1.
But I understand the rationale on trading out Rhys and am not dissapointed with that call - I have more faith in our young Ruck stocks pushing forward than P66, but I seriously hope Petracca is a Jet
Thanks for your updates Jaxons - appreciate your efforts at giving us up to the minute mail whilst not compromising the club!!

Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
gringo do we really need to replace Stanley ?
a fit Hickey can float forward from the ruck
Bruce can move forward , Tom Lee/Spencer White may get more of a run up front .. is Stanleys role really a vital cog especially considering we are morethan likely going to be a bottom 2 team again next year

Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
Love your input Jaxon, but I hope this trade goes tits up I really do. Pick 21 has been around the block so options in the draft end of first round can't be valued that highly and getting someone of the equivalent potential as Stanley ( considering size and athletic prowess ) is unlikely. I don't like this trade at all.
You can knock all you want but he had games this year that made it look like he was turning the corner and the better we get, the better he will. It just goes to show how good Riewoldt really is that people expect Stanley who isn't a natural footballer to accelerate his development with our atrocious forward deliver.
The fact that Geelong are willing to part with 21 for him with Hawkins, Clark and McIntosh says a lot to me.

Dissapointed to hear about O'Shea, like him as a player but that trade never moved beyond workplace rumour milljaxons wrote:We are not getting o'shea and Armo won't be traded.
Armo - The club must have faith in him to go to the next level consistently. We will certainly be a better team for it if he can!
No point doing trades if we can't come out on top in the eyes of our scouts/list managers

Bruce will need to play forward with no Stanley.
Gwilt gone
Huge question mark over Gilbert, and a smaller question mark over Fisher.
Frost is much more of a KPD than O'Shea
With Richo's comments thru the year regarding our need for another key back, I think we could fit both.
Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
St Chris wrote:Pick 21 is not enough IMO. We have to dig in and ask for Geelong's Pick 14.
I still think Stanley's best is pretty good, it's just a question of seeing that more often. After 60-odd games, he's about to really mature and hopefully find some consistancy - if he comes good, we'll look stupid taking 21 for him.
I fully agree. We have done the hard work. With good delivery coming out of the middle he could be a real asset!
Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
doeasnt make sense to trade him for such a high pick.....we need players in his age bracket and i feel his upside is pretty good.......at worst hold onto him for another year so he can show even more and trade him for a pick 13-14 next year.
Doesnt make sense and would be surprised if the club did it unless they use pick 21 to trade for a better pick so EG
pick 1 to GWS for picks 4, 7 and pick 21 on trade for a better pick.....for me I would be asking for their pick 14 for him.

Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
121 marks. Plenty contested. Should be a pick 14 imo.
On the other hand we all said 17 was fair for Ryder and Ryder is better than Rhys - so that makes 21 about spot on.

It is not fair for Ryder without the drug rubbish....IMO Ryder is a top 10.......at Essendon due their ridiculous rubbish 17 is more than fairCon Gorozidis wrote:121 marks. Plenty contested. Should be a pick 14 imo.

Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
I for one am a little bit sad by this news because I've always thought that with good delivery Stanley could really dominate.
If it turns out not to be the case with Geelong's midfield, although I wish him well, it will make me feel a little better that he didn't have that potential after all.

Geelong didn't want to do that trade but had to. They always look after there own the cats.jaxons wrote:Seriously Allen Christensen was pick #21.
Who is better out of him or Stanley please?
Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
Honestly.
Im just sweating on getting the paperwork done before Geelong come to their senses.
My Melbourne supporter mate is spewing we get pick 21 for Stanley, while they are getting Lumamba in a straight swap for Clark, who is twice the player Rhys is.
Daylight robbery. Will be very disappointed if this falls over now. Looking forward to getting our next Dunstan or Acres at pick 21.

Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
Clearly Christensen has more runs on the board - but he wanted to leave Geelong, so they were obliged to broker a deal. If he gets his body right, it's massive unders because if gets back to full fitness he's a gun.jaxons wrote:Seriously Allen Christensen was pick #21.

The thing that people (and please people correct me if i don't speak for many of you) will feel flat about is all year we've heard "stocking up on talent", "go to the draft"...and to only have 1 pick inside the first round is dissapointing given we finshed stone motherless last!
I'm sure there's a sense of desperation out there to fsat forward and not have to go through a slow re build, hence the cries of blue murder over trading out Rhys for only #21...

Well my mail is that they were not looking after their own so much as cleaning up a very sordid mess that would have derailed them next year if he had of stayed.Saints94 wrote:Geelong didn't want to do that trade but had to.
