i dont want him traded dont get me wrong but its hardly the end of the world if he does get traded ... its not membership tearing material .. he is in our top 5 players at the club but lets be honest we are the wooden spooners for a reason and that is we dont have the spread of quallity so if the deal comes that sees us able to add more quality by taking a backwards step then so be it ..
not membership tearing material on his own...but he is when added to the worrying trend....ball, bj, dal...and big mac to a lesser extent....ain't seen anyone added that is or will be of the same quality as yet.......

In the context of the potential deal we are talking about here it is. We are talking number one picks and top ten picks. In that context an early 20's pick is steak knives.....

Toy Saint said WB could be offering $800 000/ year to get Boyd on board. WOW big money !
Saints apparently ver keen 12 mths ago and maybe still the case ??
Would our club offer this sort of money? I would be surprised if so - not long ago we were trying to emulate the geelong model for sustained success and did have a band of young up and coming stars prepared to take less $ for finals success. Boyd does appeal on paper but then again the price!
Any views on Boyd vs McCartin ?

I think that's cheap IMO. We have space in the salary cap and the pick / players to get it done. We can load up mids with later picks and next year's draft. Now is the time to get a premium grade forward who can dominate for the next 10 years.

If and it s a HUGE if Boyd was to be traded, apparently the Saints have matched the Dogs offer and have #1 on the table (plus steak knives and a pick coming back the other way (pick #7?)
Still it wont happen for either us or the Bulldogs.

According to the media, Bulldogs have offered a minimum of $800,000 per year, up to 1 million a year for six years.
Don't care if (potentialy) he is as good ad Plugger turned out to be.
Imagine how all the other young recruits we get feel playing next to a guy getting twice as much money, who has played 10 friken games!
We should get someone at free agency who is a proven forward in the first third of his carrear, when the young blokes have established themselves and are on a good contract, this young must grow together , far, far too much money for an unproven player.
Hope the Dogs get him , they will implode...

You've got to be kidding. The guy has played eight games and kicked nine games. Averages 6 possessions and 2.5 marks a game and you want to make him the highest paid player at the club? How do you reckon the 19 guys we've just re-signed would feel. None of them would be getting close to that money.
How do you think Roo and Monti would feel?
What about Goddard? He would have stayed for that money. Not going to happen
id not be happy if he got that kind of coin from us
so already he is worth the same as riewoldt?
lol
please
lets draft and keep the next two or three draft players all together, offer them decent coin, all around the same and give them the geelong speech...'if we stay together for a little less coin each we can create a dynasty'
otherwise we pay some kid that hasnt even played a dozen games in one year and come the time when its negotiations for everyone else we lose two or three becasue we're paying some kid huge coin

Not going to happen? Will happen. Either the dogs, us or another club will stump up $800k+ either this year or next.
This bloke will be very good. Don't worry about his numbers now. Worry about them in 2016 onwards.
And don't worry about Roo, Joey and BJ. They sleep on mattresses stuffed with cash.

The AFL will always have its superstars (Carey, Lockett, Reiwoldt, and more recently the likes of Gary Jr or Buddy) but unless a bloke is a freak it probably makes his teammates feel cheated if they are getting paid a third or a quarter of the salary of these 'potential super stars'... And in the end...the team may not achieve the ultimate so what's the benefit?
Have a look at the Geelong and Hawthorn models over the last 10 years. They've won 6 flags between them. They weren't prepared to pay overs for anyone. That is a team first culture. That is a board and a club leadership that leads and does not wilt or bend to the demands of player agents.
Sure we are now in the era of Free Agency and you'll get some blokes on big coin but I still think the team first culture and a sense of equality among team mates goes a long way to fulfilling team goals.
Players that have proved their value over a sustained period might be worth hanging onto or gaining for extras, but in the case of a bloke like Scully or Boyd it just feels a bit awkward for the guys on his team who might have notched up 50 games. They're busting their guts and training as hard and probably getting more possessions each week and watching these blokes earning bucket-loads of cash for doing essentially the same amount of work.
Out of those two I'd be picking up our boy Jerry C... in the PSD of 2015.
I hear that Jerry is really looking forward to having his photo taken with Pluggsy in front of the Fox McNamara Stand at the Junction.
Season 2016... Petracca and Steven bustin' outta' the centre and kickin' it looooong to Jerry n' Spenc-arrrrrhhh!

Under normal circumstances.......end of 2015 we were after him
Boyd and in PARTICULAR his Manager took full advantage of the fact Griffen wanted to go GWS
Bulldogs would prob taken Wright or McCartin if above did not occur
The word in footy circles ST KILDA spewing
Patracca this year.............Boyd next year
s*** HAPPENS
Lets hope we draft very well
Be it Bulldogs or us.................no premiership for so long.............
Be brave...even go overs..........to try and land the big ones
Dogs and I think we will too soon ....if it does not workout.............no other way has won either a flag for over 40 years
Boyd is getting 7 million for 7 years and that includes next year where he can only get about 80K. Surely we wanted no part of that. Glad we missed him. Would have been the silliest thing we could have done if we committed that much.
What's amusing is the Western Bulldogs using this signing, particularly on social media, as some sort of endorsement of their club. Selling it as a great coup etc
I'm sure any club, including ours stuck in the back blocks of Seaford, could have been just as successful had we offered a 19 year old with 9 games to his credit, $7 million.
It's just crazy.
I mean, if Western Bulldogs had've drafted Boyd last year, would they be looking at this sort of extension a year later? Or perhaps a more realistic extension like normal clubs in this situation do?
Crazy stuff indeed and it does nothing to help the comp.

My point was we were really after him......
Of course it would have been a big offer.........did not say it would have been along the reported amount and length of contract bulldogs have.
Listening to SEN last night it was clear Carlton thought they'd get Boyd when he came home in 12 months time. Boyd is/was a Blues supporter who was seen at Blues games this year (as a guest of the Blues) wearing a Blues scarf.
Point being, forget about we should've made a "big offer" to him.
The only reason he chose WB is because of the $7 million. We may have been able to get him but we would've had to match, or even better, that offer.

The club has proceeded wisely IMO.
He'll be the richest person in Smackscray!
i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.
Seriously, the dogs have lost a coach because of the players , and the leader of those players has gone as well. They are in a mess.
They have now offered 7 million dollars to a player who has played 9 senior afl games. He is no ablett yet or buddy yet, and I'm not sure
the bulldogs are at a stage yet where one player will make all the difference anyway. Ablett was an experienced brownlow/premiership player
sent to help the kids and bring the crowds. Buddy well he has proved his worth. I would love to know what the football world would be saying
if it was us who had made this move. It kind of reminds me of Melbourne throwing all that money at Mitch Clarke, and we have seen how
that turned out. No reflection on his depression, but before that he had not given them much, and he was a bit more senior than Boyd.
