Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
WOW- that is a massive show of faith in Longer, Hickey, Pierce and Holmes, and throw in SPencer White too.
Only time will tell if Stanley is destined for constant inconsistency and mediocrity or if he can get it all together and become a very valuable player!!
Thanks for the tip Jaxons - i love the way you appear and disaapear like a thief in the night ) Adds real theatrics to this forum!!

Don't like it personally think he's on the verge of being a gun and have said this before when we get better he will excel!!
I for one think he's is worth first and second round pick.

Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
Was just reported on SEN that there has been a lot of interest, especially from the Cats. I posted in another thread that I wouldn't like to lose him. He's the only one of our ruckmen who can play a position other than ruck at the moment. If the Cats are prepared to offer pick 21 though I think it's an offer too good to refuse.
Rhys has shown what he's capable of in patches but I'm not sure he's ever going to do that on a consistent basis. If we could then turn pick one into 4 & 7 we'd be in a position to potentially trade 21 or our second pick for a player and still have three picks in the first 21.
Gotta love trade week

Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
Oh boy.
The knockers will be happy (particularly the entire row that sits behind my family), but I will be frustrated when he turns out to be as good as he always should have been.
Thx Jaxons, I like to be prepared for the possibilities ...

Why develop someone only to trade him and start the whole process again
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
Great trade if we pull it off. We have enough ordinary big forwards, we can afford to lose one.
He goes missing way too often and only kicked 18 goals all year which is pretty ordinary for a key forward. Lets not be fooled by the one great game he plays every 8 weeks where he looks like a world beater.
Pick 21 is a steal.

I would prefer young Jordan Murdoch. Get the bros playing together.SemperFidelis wrote:Is Taylor Hunt part of the deal?

I can only think we have a key forward targetted in the draft as a replacement.
Could this mean Petracca is off the radar ?

Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
Pick 21 is not enough IMO. We have to dig in and ask for Geelong's Pick 14.
I still think Stanley's best is pretty good, it's just a question of seeing that more often. After 60-odd games, he's about to really mature and hopefully find some consistancy - if he comes good, we'll look stupid taking 21 for him.

Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
I think he'd be a nice pick up. Rhys is handy but he's not a gun and never will be. His value for us is that he can play the second ruck role. At some stage we're going to have to make a decision about the ruckmen on our list.SemperFidelis wrote:Is Taylor Hunt part of the deal?
If the club think White, Lee and Membrey are better forward options and Hickey, Longer and Pierce are better ruck options where does that leave Rhys?

Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
In a good team he will thrive because he offers flexibility in both ruck and as a 3rd tall forward. At the Cats he could quite easily become the next Kurt Tippett. Ironically, I think he will struggle at the Saints until there is another good tall forward (as well as Roo). He looked most dangerous this year in the short time he teamed up with Reiwoldt & Josh Bruce in the forward line - and when he played as a ruckman.
So if he stays with us, he probably continues to be inconsistent - he goes and he thrives. Cant win.

I think Rhys has shown what he's got. If he goes he'll continue to be the same player he is now. Inconsistent with glimpses of something better.Zed wrote:In a good team he will thrive because he offers flexibility in both ruck and as a 3rd tall forward. Rhys Stanley or Pick # 21
Another conundrum.
Like many have been a bit underwhelmed with the athletic and quick Stanley over recent years. he could be on the cusp of greater things but looking at his ability to inject himself into games it has seemed very come and go.
It's almost like he doesn't realise what he has.
Wonder who the experts have signalled likely to go @ pick 21.

The boy can play and we can build a defence around him that will have respect.

Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
the issue i feel with Rhys is he has the body for footy he has the size and the speed and he has the skills to be a very good player but to me i think he is a little too timmid.. for a guy his size he should be struting about throwing his weight about like Gehrig did back in the day not really his fault but if he was ever going to show that killer instinct you would have though he would have by now he is pretty much an established player so it may be a case of what you see is what you get with Rhys ... personally i would prefer a bit more than pick 21 though the bloke can play

Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
Sheer madness if we do it. Stanley has just finally emerged! The only reason you would do it, was if you knew you were getting someone like Boyd or Cameron from GWS. Otherwise its madness, a trade we may rue in the future.
Re: Rhys Stanley for Pick #21
Look he ain't perfect but gee we have put some time in and has shown some improvement.
Pick 21 ain't enough.
We need some players between ages 20 and 30? Or becoming new GWS?
