I must admit it took quite some time to get over those 09/10 losses. We were never favourites in either year though. Neither Premiership was a given, but we should have nailed that 09 flag. Goes in with the 71 and 97 GF's being ahead at three quarter time. Oh, the pain!!
Not trying to be a pedant or nitpick you but we weren't ahead in 97 at 3/4 time. We were up at 1/2 time but 10 points down at 3/4 time. The camrys managed 14 goals in the second half to demolish us. I just raise the point because I also in my head thought we were up at 3/4 time and I was at that game. In my head we were up and then Jarman beat us in the final qr. The reality is a bit different. It just goes to show how our memories can create myths over the years.
Agreed but its hard to remember when you never ever see a kick of any of those finals because its makes you cry.
I too couldn't help today say 'just 4 years ago at this time I was walking to the G....'
Its amazing, seems so little time but so much re footy has changed. We are the new Port from those days and they are on the up....
Its not just losing a GF its knowing guys like Hayes and co are finished and that era has missed the boat....an era that was good enough and gave us so much dominance. An era that will be remembered as the Cats/Hawk years and somewhere dotted in there a very 'capable' Saints side with some champion players......
09 was def the year we should've won it - Pies were the best side in 10 and had we snaffled that would've been gold.....not to be. 09 in that first half I couldn't help thinking misses would haunt....they did.......
As I said to a mate today (hes Carlton)....'you do realise its only 23,635 days till Saints win the GF?...BRING IT ON.

Also listened to that 65 GF on radio.
The StK boys were in tears after the game and my sympathy for them cemented my support for them.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

You're right of course. Funny how the memory changes things. Keddie and Jarman.....the names make me shudder.
