Re: Saunders signed until end of 2016
Now 20 games into what promises to be a long and successful career, Saunders has signed on until the end of 2016 as part of the Saints Future Fest campaign.
“It’s really exciting,” he said.
“A lot of younger boys have all put pen to paper so hopefully we can build some good foundations going forward.”
“It’s a pretty tight-knit group and we all have that same direction, so hopefully if we all knuckle down we can get some real success soon.”

St Kilda's Head of Football Chris Pelchen is adamant that Saunders future lies as fleet-footed midfielder capable of pushing forward, rather than the other way around.
"Josh is an energetic young player who has provided genuine run and carry for the Saints forward of the centre," Pelchen told SAINTS.com.au.
"His running ability provides a real example to the other players on the training track. As he develops a mature body, we anticipate he will be able to spend some more time through the midfield."

+1. He has shown in glimpses the capacity to excite!ROLS-LEE wrote:Good news. He is one of few with actual leg speed at our club. Hope he tears it apart next year.

Im not completely sold on this guy. his skills are poor but he has pace and goes in hard. 2 years is the mximum he deseves at the moment. Certainly makes more sense than the rumour of lee and Minchinton getting 2 years extra.

Re: Saunders signed until end of 2016
Saw him play most of his VFL games this year and his last 6 or 7 games he was a standout. His running capacity and manic attack at the football was fantastic. He will make it, great to see him get another couple of years

I agree Plugger but he was pick 43 for a reason. Also agree with the contract extensions ie: Simpkin, Milera etc. Don't just sign them up for an extra year or two for the sake of it.plugger66 wrote:Im not completely sold on this guy. his skills are poor but he has pace and goes in hard. 2 years is the mximum he deseves at the moment. Agreed. He does not seemingly have a redeemable (lol) quality at this stage...plugger66 wrote:Im not completely sold on this guy. his skills are poor but he has pace and goes in hard. 2 years is the mximum he deseves at the moment. As for Saunders, I am not a huge wrap. If and it is a big if he survives on a list medium term, I can see him only ever being a bottom 6 player.
Will never be a star. Still players like Jason Blake made a 200 + game career out of being a bottom six player.
Not everyone can be a Chris Judd.

That's my point...
Why 2 years, nobody is going to be chasing the wooden spooners depth players are they?
If they show something by all means, give them a years extension.
Weird contract extensions in recent years, as far back as Peake Polo and Clarke.

It was sarcasm and also the word should have been lost not list. Always try and read what you right.

Bit early to call on that BM. How does anyone with out a time machine know who will end up a bottom 6 player. If the forum had selected it's best few players for 2014 a couple of years ago Siposs, Rhys and Tommy Walsh would be fighting it out for a Brownlow. If I had guessed Goddard wouldn't have made it to 50 games before delisting. Saunders has some really good qualities IMO wether that means he makes the grade who knows. I thought Xavier Clarke and Cadyn Beetham would be stars. Joey was a very slow boil but became a star.

That is all so true but it would be a boring forum if we had to wait for kids to make it or not. I hope you havent said Billing, acres or Dunstan will be stars in the future. As long as they arent called after a game or two, which I have certainly done, then I reckon 2 years is fair enough.

Like all Saints players I don't rate, I hope he proves me wrong. Unlike another dearly departed BM, this BM is happy to be wrong and say so, and would love nothing more than Saunders to become a star player and be our next Lenny Hayes.
How happy do you think I will be to say I was WRONG???
