Good clubs can rehabilitate troubled players, but only if their culture is spot on.

I wouldn't give up too much for Brown, but I'd certainly give him a chance if the opportunity arose to grab him at the right price.

Since getting injured and assuming he'll be on an AFL list next year it'll be nearly 2 years since he played (injured rnd 4 2013).

I just don't think it will be that easy for him to return and play as well as he did before. That's where I see the risk.

LLF I tend to agree morally that he should return to Melbourne - but what if he ends up at the SAINTS via the PSD? Which has been stated as a strong possibility this morning on SEN. I believe if he doesn't want return to Melbourne (what ever reason) he needs to come out and make a public statement as to the reasons why. I believe in 'footy karma' and if he ended up with us it would be a big slice of bad karma that would no doubt later come back to bite the club ! Please tread very carefully Sainters....

We have recruited so many mature age players in the last ten years who have been a complete waste of money , would he be any different ?

I have and I've seen him tear us apart when he played for the Lions.
Would want to absolutely ensure he's got his issues well and truly under control and that his body is 100% right to go.

Even with all that it's a massive gamble.

More massive than Siposs, Simpkin, Minchington. Yes he will cost a lot more but we must pay 95% of the SC and at the moemnt I cant possibly see how we do that without getting a bigger name in. Just grab the guy if he is interested and mentally oK.

Well we have the first pick in the PSD, he lives in Melbourne, we can offer him good money and a good playing group to play together with. He won't be the sole forward getting the first defender, and we have a respected coach.

I don't know why he would not repay Melbourne though - I'd like to know more because from the outside looking in it seems like the right thing to do would be to play for them.

Despite the protests, I think losing Mitch Clark for nothing (as a high profile recruit) would be pretty high on Melbourne's "Reasons We Should Get A Priority Pick" list they submit to the AFL.

Not sure which one they'd prefer more, Clark back as the player he showed he could be, or a pretty highly rated youngster with a fresh start?? The answer to this question may determine how far the Dees push it with retaining Clark on their list.

I heard someone saying it was gambling addiction. More alluding to it like it was the real issue.

If it was the latter, I would doubt that Dees would have paid him out in full like they did.

He does have the right to choose where he takes his talents (ala LeBron) however the fact that he came from the Dees and the Dees are terrible, it adds spice to the story.

In the end, his mental illness needs to be taken at face value. I hope he is ok and football is part of his longer-term rehab.
