Cheers for the report.SemperFidelis wrote:Beautiful day in Port Melbourne, great day for the footy, but no good for the Zebs, bowing out 16.23.119 to 11.6.72.
Took the family, sat behind the goals on the hill next to a big contingent of the younger Saints (sterling effort to make it the afternoon after the night before!). Gilbo in a Moonboot.
Sad to see TDL and Dunny for probably the last time, both kicked goals. Spencer a bit inaccurate today, but did kick at least one. Minchi and Seb Ross very good. Saunders and Pierce ok. Holmes took a good mark. Didn't see Shents today.

No issue there. Players always wear moonboots on the weekends. Just for fun sometimes. Its like an in-joke they have. Nothing wrong with him most likely.SemperFidelis wrote: Gilbo in a Moonboot.

Not surprised you missed Shenton, he has cut all his hair off, he was wearing 39, could hardly recognize him. Can't call him shaggy anymoreSemperFidelis wrote:Beautiful day in Port Melbourne, great day for the footy, but no good for the Zebs, bowing out 16.23.119 to 11.6.72.

Seb Ross did well, but I was disappointed in the other Saints out there. They were only playing against VFL players after all.

Seriously? Should have consulted my $3 record more closely! I have some vague recollection that #39 did ok?!

Disappointing they bowed out but its a promising sign for the club they got through to the second week of the finals. Well done lads.

A bit unlucky copping Port.
We have a better history v Box Hill.
Anyway - decent season. First finals win since 2006. So thats a good omen... 3 years after that the Sainters were in a GF.
Goals: Ong 2, Dunell 2, Minchington 2, Dennis-Lane 2, Banfield, White, Kreymborg
Best: Ross, Minchington, Simpkin, Dunell, Shenton

Re: VFL Semi final Sat 6th- Review
Minch showing some of what I reckon he will eventually do in the AFL - upgrade him please Saintas.
Lou Peirce looking like he will really be a player. Just give him two more pre-seasons to bulk up. Seeing him in the flesh at Vic Park I was amazed how thin he is. Despite that, doesn't appear to stop him finding front position at ball-ups and throw ins. I reckon he'll definitely end up going past both Hickey and Longer. So in a couple of seasons we should have the unaccustomed luxury of looking to trade off a quality ruckman for a decent draft pick.
Spencer(!) Very disappointing. Clearly lacks an ego. Spencer, today on the forward line you were DA MAN! You should have been demanding the ball!
Seb Ross was very impressive.
Jason Holmes also needs to present more around the ground. Still following the play around waiting for the next ruck contest. Tackles well though, but needs to start getting his hands on the footy as much as he can in general play. Even if he doesn't win clean possession, just get hold of the thing Jason. Possessions will come.
Simpkin. Give his all, then some, but sadly has limited footy skills IMHO. Probably worth another year because of his grunt factor, but I reckon 2015 will probably be his last. We'll see...
The Panther(?) Did his Samson impersonation today. The good news is he's got all summer to grow back the long hair and beard. Start now Panther!

When was the last time our magoos won a final? Sometime back at Casey? Must have been a few years.
Re: VFL Semi final Sat 6th- Review
In 08 the reserves were still playing when the seniors were getting flogged in the Qualifying Final. Can't remember if that was a VFL final or not, probably was given it was early September.Con Gorozidis wrote:When was the last time our magoos won a final? Sometime back at Casey? Playing in the VFL around that time: X Clarke, McEvoy, L Fisher, M Gardiner, Fiora, Armitage, Ferguson, Rix, Howard, McQualter, Steven, Chivers, Geary, Allen (one week before his career ended).

All hopes of a Sandringham comeback were dashed early into the final quarter as Port Melbourne quickly extended the margin to beyond five goals to effectively end the contest with the final margin blowing out to 47 points.
With the alignment between St Kilda and Sandringham extended to the end of 2016, McPhee noted just how important the relationship between the two clubs remains.
“It’s outstanding, the experience the players get such as Jason Holmes playing finals today and playing well is brilliant,” McPhee said.
“We’ve seen the development of players all the way through, we’ve seen Seb Ross separate from being a really good VFL player into an AFL player and we’ve seen Darren Minchington starting to do the same.”
“For the Saints players to be exposed to that level of footy on a regular is invaluable and the alliance is really strong.”
PORT MELBOURNE 4.5 7.11 10.19 16.23 119
SANDRINGHAM 3.1 6.4 9.4 11.6 72
Goals: Ong 2, Dunell 2, Minchington 2, Dennis-Lane 2, Banfield, White, Kreymborg
