Agree with Plugger66.

now off to get my head read :-)

Really kidding - actually agree with P66 quite a bit ... and in this case he is right without doubt.

Mitchell is already B grade despite his age and limited opportunity (and hampered development by playing a D grade 2nd tier comp) and he is playing in a side that is filled with A and A+ midfielders.

Of ALL the midfielders aged 21 or under, he is top 3. Maybe even #1.

Name 3 better?

His upside is enormous.

Much better and more upside than any player on our list.

I would give away pick 1 for him.

Advances our development as Pick 1 will take a few years to make an impact ...

A 21 / 22 year old ready to hit the start of their peak in 2 years mixes better with our age profile of quality midfielders a better spread - Armitage, Steven, (Mitchell) Billings, Dunstan and Acres, supported by Weller, Curran and the like.

I want to load up on midfielders through the draft and trade.

I would much rather than a spread of goal kicking forwards AND goal kicking midfielders (who can also rest forward) than a super star forward or 2 and QUALITY and QUANTITY of ball into the forward 50 is crucial.

Mitchell makes finals contention in 2016/7 more realsitic.

Con, you really need to get this image of posters dropping their pants out of your head.

It's not healthy.

And just a tad scary

I agree with you but all those players would go pick one two or three as Mitchell would. he has huge upside as probably nearly all of those do. Look we have no hope of getting him but its a good discussion to see how people rate the top picks.

It is Friday afternoon - traditional 'pants off' time.

So carry on 'sans pantalon'

Jeez if Mitchell can get his hands on the ball at top level and do something with it, then sign him up. Blind Freddy knows we need an influx of class.

Why...what does he bring to the table?

Just turned 21. 20 disposals a game, nearly half contested. 32 shots at goal in 20 games. 5 tackles a game. What doesnt he bring to the table?

Didn't he get 50 or something at NEAFL level? He obviously gets it well but on the radio they claimed he has a few bad habits to work on. On pure stats he's a gun though. I wouldn't want to give up pick one for him though. Toby Greene would give you an A grader for not much outlay..well except for court fees.

I'd offer Sydney Gwilt and Jones for Mitchell.

Mitchell gets plenty of the ball in the lower level comp he spends a lot of his season playing in, he doesn't stay in the Seniors for very long,he must be flawed.

A 2nd rounder at best, why, he hasn't proved himself yet, that's all he can be judged on at this point.

The Saints are under review, will it make any difference to the underachievers ?

I forgot Brad Hill who is probably number 1 of the 21 and unders.

So that is 10 x 21 or unders clearly ahead of Tom Mitchell. But agree Mitchell is still a top 10 pick. Top 3 this year but not normally a top 3.

The Swans are going to end up with Heeney also.

I think tom liberatore is 22 but point well made.
amd we havent even mentioned the first year guys (aish, bont etc).

So a big yes to Tom mitchell but keep our pants well fastened. Plenty ahead of him for his age.

The trouble is the swans can afford to keep guys like him and ben reid on their books.

Will be a very interesting trade period by the looks of it.

Good point, he's an interesting comparison. Another guy who racks up getting the footy but has his negatives.

Greene's first season he played 19 games and averaged 28 possessions. Mitchell's first two seasons he's played 20 games and averaged less than 20 possessions. Greene had more contested and more inside 50s. Mitchell had more tackles and more goals.

I haven't seen enough of either of them to judge but it sounds like they're fairly similar. If Greene's a lot cheaper then shouldn't we go for him?

Toby Greene makes poor decisions on and off the field. No thanks.

Toby Greene is another that would cost pick one. Why do we underate these things. Someone even said Gwilt and CJ for Mitchell. The problem this that apart from its silly is both are delisted so they are free to go anywhere even though they probably will both never play in the AFL again.

Ok so TM is nowhere near in the top 5 midfielders in his age group. So would we give pick 1 for him?

I guess the only relevant question is who is more likely to be better out of TM and Petracca?

Now thats a bloody hard one to answer unless u have watched a lot of both. I have nfi but I reckon they might be fairly similar.

The other scary thing is gws probably have 5 of the best 20 midfielders 21 and under.

Surely you are having a lend.
O'Meara was injured all year for starters

Jared Polec is only 21 as well. You cant honestly tell me Mitchell is ahead of Polec??

http://www.aflplayerratings.com.au/Rati ... ared-POLEC

He probably isnt a 'midfielder' but Wingard is only 21 and already an AA and B&F.

Mitchell is good but not even top 10 in his age group. Lets keep our pants fastened.

I guess we wouldnt consider him for pick 1
But maybe pick 3? The swans get Heeney anyway so may be prepared to let TM go.

So lets say we do pick 1 for pick 3 + 2 GWS players and then use pick 3 on Mitchell.

Under this scenario, we could end up with:

Mitchell, O'Rourke,Jaksche, pick 20, another top 20 pick (?), pick 39.

So thats 6 new players + 3 rookie upgrades.
