Re: Gwilt and Jones delisted
I don't want to be combative or disrespectful in this thread- but do people seriously believe any of those guys would be even considered by another club? Maybe 5 years ago - but there isnt much of a market for old guys who are struggling to get a game at the 18th team just quietly.
I think they were told this week so they could fully enjoy a final game and take it all in and have the time with their team mates etc. Just Richo doing the right thing by them. Id say nothing to do with finding a new home. Otherwise you cut them next week and they might say they wished they knew it was their last game (like Bakes). It leaves players out in the cold.
I think its just nice for closure to have the lads fully cognisant of their last game and give them the opportunity to have their family there etc etc.

Re: Gwilt and Jones delisted
Im not sure it was disrespectful as apparently Dempster let the cat out of the bag and Richardson fessed up at the press conference so he was being honest.bigred wrote:Actually feel a tad sorry for the Fro.

Surprised it is announced so quickly. Tad disrespectful.
Anyway, thats footy.

Important to note that these guys have not been delisted yet.
They have been told they will not be offered a further contract, meaning they are still listed until the first list lodgement. So any free agency type deal, we would still get compo.

Re: Gwilt and Jones delisted
Sad to see them both retire. Another punctuation mark highlighting the end of one of the few great eras that I have been following the Saints. previous to that there has only really been 97 which was like an explosion that ended as quickly as it started.
Well done to both Jimmy and Clint, both true Saints warriors that played with bravery and class even when playing against bigger or more highly skilled opponents. Clint took the elbows and heavy shepherds that the opposition dished out to him with out a fuss and Jimmy will be remembered by me standing guarding Aaron Sandilands in the goal square one night last year looking like an under 9s player in the seniors.
Both boys should be proud they had careers that saw them play on the biggest stage in AFL and were with in a fingernail of being immortal. Cruel game when you get shown the door after giving it all but they should be proud of what they achieved regardless of where their careers now go.

Even a 5th band compo is better than nothing.
Re: Gwilt and Jones delisted
Our list hole gets bigger with Jimmy's departure.
Armo is 26. Schneids is 30, more than four year older. There are only two players between them in age: Ray and Gilbo. Unbelievable.
No wonder we're not going well, we have no-one in the prime of their career and experienced.

Yeah I was talking to a Richmond mate who had seen the Age age ladder, he thought we should be more competitive but I was explaining the list make up and it didn't sound like a good story.
People have got to realise that the youth take time. Gold Coast and GWS would have played in premierships in their first year if the kids could play to full potential from day one.

They both have known since Tuesday.
By the way...it would have got out anyway if we waited till next..so much cleaner that they both knew so that they could enjoy their last game in Saint's colors, with the family that they wanted present.
I would imagine that both CJ and the Fro decided to keep it quiet till post game. So respect their choice.

Re: Gwilt and Jones delisted
I've been quite a fan of both of them over the years. Gwilt gave early excitement up forward in that final in Adelaide before becoming an excellent defender, while Jones made the most of his limited ability to carve out a very good career. Best of luck to them.

Gwilt has indicated he would like to explore other options after ten years at the club, while Jones is yet to make a decision about his playing future.sainter#4 wrote:gwilt has indicated he wishes to explore other options according to the article on saints.com

Maybe the Hawks will trade their 2nd round pick to the Saints for Gwilt

Re: Gwilt and Jones delisted
With Gwilt the recent good form of Fisher and Dempster would have seen him on being ranked No 3. With wanting to play young to mid-aged players 3 is too many, and particularly as all 3 tend to play as third-tall backs.
CJ will have handed his baton to Weller.

These two blokes were a huge part of the most exciting years I've experienced in my 38 years of supporting this great club. They both bled for the red, white and black.
Thank you both for your wonderful service

We won't get any compo if he moves via FA after being delisted.
not delisted just not offered a new contract. there is a difference. it will mean that if Gwilt says goes to Adelaide for reasonable good coin, saints will get compensation.

Heard a snippet from Richos press conference played on SEN in the wee hours this morning. Richo said they were both told Tuesday andsaintsRrising wrote:http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-08-31/r ... -postmatchbigred wrote:Actually feel a tad sorry for the Fro.

didn't want to take away from Lenny's last game. Richos words.
Re: Gwilt and Jones delisted
Rumours are very strong thats schneider will also retire or be delisted. Like the word retire. Sound better. Schneiders mum was balling her eyes out in the rooms after the game so i would suggest thats a great clue. Think CJ is happy to call it quits but can say the same for Jimmy. hopes are high that he will be picked up elsewhere.

I'm not surprised, he's probably not getting the bestout of himself since he came back.

Re: Gwilt and Jones delisted
Jones, Gwilt- both deserve a pat on the back for their efforts. Gwilt has been a lamb to the slaughter far too often thanks to no tall support in the backline and I hope he gets a chance somewhere. Jones has always given maximum effort for us and been a great tagger..good luck for the future guys.

Difference between not being offered another contract to being delisted when it comes to FA.
Don't think the final delist have to be in until late October?
If (very very very big if) Gwilt was picked up by another club, we would get FA compo.
But I very much doubt he will be picked up. You get cut from the bottom team, you would think your time is well and truly up.
You are garbage - Enough said
