Are Saints fans the biggest bandwagon supporters?
This article appeared online today and would appear we are...

8,000 members missing from only a few years ago. Time for everyone to get back on board, it's only going to get better from now on!

If we had of won the flag it would be a different story. I think it's safe to say fans while loyal aren't going to reward the club until we get a couple more flags under our belt. A bit of "We make the effort to show up and you give us nothing. Why should be financally reward failure"

You ask that question then provide scathing review of a player who has given 10 years / 149 games plus played without fan fare at VFL level and others putting their bodies on the field each week
Where would others get incentive to support the saints
Seems that some members /supporters only feel they are supporting when they are finding the negatives and being brutal with it

I assume you are referring to Jones? He has tried hard and got the best out of himself, but I don't think it's scathing to say he can't kick, just honest...saintbrat wrote:You ask that question then provide scathing review of a player who has given 10 years / 149 games plus played without fan fare at VFL level and others putting their bodies on the field each week

I'll support the Saints whether they are on the top or the bottom, but we have to be honest about our talent or lack thereof...
There is a lot to be excited about in the coming years - Billings, Dunstan, Hickey, Templeton, Siposs could be anything, Stanley has improved and I'm excited to see if Geary develops into a captain

Even teams like Carlton can't sign members when they bottom out. Just a reality of where we are at. The freaks on here don't represent normal fans. As soon as we show a bit of promise we will start signing every one up again. We have a family membership and my wife only showed up to one game so far. She pretty much represents a normal footy fan who sees no joy in wasting a day watching the team get castrated.

The worry is that even some of the freaks on here have moaned and groaned "I'm not going because I don't like the timeslot or train timetables".gringo wrote:The freaks on here don't represent normal fans. No wonder the less passionate fans have dropped off!
Gringo - my wife is the same. Hardly been to a game all year whereas in 09-10 she would have gone to a dozen. And only going tomorrow because of Lenny.
The rest of Australia can wander mask-free, socialise, eat out, no curfews, no zoning, no police rings of steel, no illogical inconsistent rules.
They can even WATCH LIVE FOOTY!

Agree completely. The 'freaks' on here are probably the most passionate and get to more games than most. Yeah, sure, some piss and moan, but if you didn't give a stuff you wouldn't bother subscribing to a fan forum. I know plenty of ppl who got along to saints games in 09/10 who simply don't go at all anymore, let alone get on here and have a whinge.
It's hard to maintain interest when your team is uncompetitive. I'll be honest, I'm not hanging out to get to the G tomorrow, give up my Sunday, and watch another insipid effort by the boys. I'm more likely to go than not, and I've been a member for 17 years now. I can only imagine what the casual supporter thinks? We need to generate that excitement that built at the end of 03 and the start of 04. We were the glory team back then - a bit like Port Adelaide at the start of this year.
Re: Are Saints fans the biggest bandwagon supporters?
Are finals tickets a reason why we had higher members when we were competing?
I know it's not 8000 but how many opposition supporters had memberships to get GF tickets?
Also could be other factors such as families tightening up, or the fact it's still not that cheap to get into town to go to the footy when its live on TV. Many other factors rather than just saying saints supporters are bandwagoners I believe. All you can do is keep buying your membership if you can afford to do so.

There would have be very very few opposition supporters with Saints memberships for GF tickets. You had to be a SC member as well and then you were in a ballot as there were only 12000 tickets available to members and they were all SC members.
You are garbage - Enough said

Re: Are Saints fans the biggest bandwagon supporters?
Fans will always drop off when teams aren't doing well. Our issue is the age of our supporters. Not too many young blokes in their 20s are becoming saints members.

Why do we "have to be honest"?Winmar7 wrote:I'll support the Saints whether they are on the top or the bottom, but we have to be honest about our talent or lack thereof...

Re: Are Saints fans the biggest bandwagon supporters?
I just signed on for a 3 game 2014 membership to North Melbourne.
I don't want to support them and am unlikely to watch them play.
I'm going to buy a Mazda - for $90 I get an extra year's warranty plus $500 of Mazda accessories and one year of roadside assist.
When I mentioned it to the dealer he said only North member's knew of this promo.
I Googled it as I knew Mazda are major sponsors of North and thought maybe there is a member offer!
North should have sold thousands of 3 game memberships each year! (11 and 14 game members also get this deal).
