The title of the article is "Jason Holmes, Eric Wallace, Mason Cox, Patrick Mitchell vying to become AFL’s first American player" not "first player from North America".

Jason in the video refers to himself as hopefully becoming the first American to play AFL. Reckon he knows a bit about the subject.

Bit of a difference - Canada is enormous compared to the USA in terms of land mass - but they do share a continent and a very, very long border, which, until 13 years ago had many sections which were porous.

New Zealand is a lot smaller geographically than Australia, and actually takes a long time by plane to get there.

I just read this in the hard copy and was thinking exactly the same thing. I actually think its a fantastic thing that he can bring a different perspective on things to our playing group - especially the positive attitude to the living away from home issue, which has to be a bonus given our interstate kids.

A nation is not a person i have to say and cannot want or not want anything.
lines on a map but without a unified consciousness.
Some people feel they want to be important (part of the individual trip) but plenty aren't fussed thankfully.
