Saints VFL standalone team delayed again
The stupid Sandy alignment extended until end of 2016 now.
FFS will we ever get a standalone Saints VFL side or continue to be miles behind the rest of the league?
I assume we need more funding.

Not often I agree with you and maybe disaster is over the top but its either we dont have the money but more likely the funding and the work has been held up. WB can do it you would think we could but obviously not. They could at least scrap the development league to local clubs arent stuffed up every week so guys can play footy that would be lucky to be B grade ammos.

The self interest side re Ormond I don't believe will get much oxygen although is relevant to a degree.plugger66 wrote:Not often I agree with you and maybe disaster is over the top but its either we dont have the money but more likely the funding and the work has been held up. Your point re the Dogs being able to do it in the third world suburb of Footscray when we can't in an area adjacent to Brighton really hurts.

Your angst would be better used to encourage supporters and sponsors to get on board
Not a disaster a delay
So unless you can tip a few mill $ into the facility then channel the angst

Re: Disaster: Saints VFL standalone team delayed again
Being a Sandy local I love walking down to TBO and watching each game.
But the long term interest of the club is best served by playing out of Moorabbin.
Not exactly sure of the ground dimensions but even with the extensions (length and width) last summer I think TBO is still much smaller than Moorabbin and hence not as good in terms of preparation for games on AFL grounds.
Plus having our own team gives us more say and flexibility in terms of how we manage players on match days and at training.

While concurring with the view that a stand alone VFL side playing at Moorabbin is a good option, this is the real world and delays do occur. " disaster " please!?

How hard is it in one whole year to build change rooms and a canteen and dunnys and whatever else is needed to play VFL there?thejiggingsaint wrote:While concurring with the view that a stand alone VFL side playing at Moorabbin is a good option, this is the real world and delays do occur. I went to Moorabbin last week for training and the ground surface is 100% perfect.
Sorry I don't get it. I hope we are not struggling again to get the co funding needed from state or local government to get the already drawn up plans in motion.
Does the whole facility need to be compete before we can go standalone there perhaps???

Everything is so simple in your world.saintspremiers wrote:How hard is it in one whole year to build change rooms and a canteen and dunnys and whatever else is needed to play VFL there?thejiggingsaint wrote:While concurring with the view that a stand alone VFL side playing at Moorabbin is a good option, this is the real world and delays do occur. Really it gets so tiresome your complaining.
Give us a solution to the redevelopment at Morrabin to fast track it, all the while staying within the rules of Workcover, council building laws, OH&S regulations and a myriad other requirements.
Very simple to shout from the rooftops and then blithely call to cut "red tape", but would you be happy to attend a facility that has the same building rigour as a building in India where there are no building regualtions.
A disaster????? A disaster would be a collapsed stand at a fast tracked building with 500-1000 people in it.
So PLEASE enough of the whining and ignorance. There are reasons you an me and our families are relatively safe in Australia and it is because regulation.
You bang on about unprofessionalism in the AFL and then want some makeshift canteens and change rooms hastily added.
If the council did that and there was an accident, the residents of the area would be up for millions in compensation.
So saintspremiers, with all that in mind tell me your solution.
I wait breathlessly for more pearls of wisdom.

Re: Disaster: Saints VFL standalone team delayed again
So does enough infrastructure for VFL take for than a year to build? Actually to be ready for 2016 VFL season for games is April 2016., about 18 months away. I know the union sites only work on average 2 days a week due to various reasons - that's a huge reason why construction is so bloody slow in this country. You forgot that didn't you? But I'm confident it could be done by then. We are not trying to build the Petronas Towers here!Bunk_Moreland wrote:Everything is so simple in your world.saintspremiers wrote:How hard is it in one whole year to build change rooms and a canteen and dunnys and whatever else is needed to play VFL there?thejiggingsaint wrote:While concurring with the view that a stand alone VFL side playing at Moorabbin is a good option, this is the real world and delays do occur. Im with savatage.
On the disaster scale of 1 to 100 where a plane crash is 100 and spilling a drink on a keyboard is a 5.

I can't wait to see the news bulletins make this their lead story. Probably get coverage overseas as well. Forget about wars and famine, the Saints won't have a stand alone VFL team until 2016!Con Gorozidis wrote:Im with savatage.

Re: Disaster: Saints VFL standalone team delayed again
Where are your solutions saintspremiers? Easiest thing in the world to critisise, but you haven't put up one solution to hasten the process up.saintspremiers wrote:ISo does enough infrastructure for VFL take for than a year to build? We are all ears saintspremiers. Do you want safe regulated facilities? or do you want something that will endanger both players, officials, and spectators?
Or do you just want some shoddy temporary buildings so your impatience can be satisified?
If you have ever built anything, you would have a bit of a clue of what actually needs to happen.
Got nothing to do with Unions or union sites. If you believe they work two days a week you really are a bit silly in the head.
And instead of more questions, where are the solutions asked for?
Disaster. A disaster would be people being injured or hurt because proper processes weren't followed.
So - your solutions are????

Re: Disaster: Saints VFL standalone team delayed again
Don't waste your energy BM. If a rushed and shoddy construction job -done because of impatience- results in the stadium at Moorabbin being closed by the authorities on H&S grounds, the same person would be whinging the loudest! Everyone's entitled to an opinion, but this one (opinion) seems based on not a lot of hard data! I'm prepared to wait a wee bit longer, I actually enjoy the Trevor Barker Oval experience, and it will be no hardship for me to wait another season.

Re: Disaster: Saints VFL standalone team delayed again
A mate who lives in Footscray told me the Western Oval was basically good to go and then the Government pumped a bunch of cash into it. So it's not surprising they have a quality facility. The Redeemer wrote:Good point re. the Dogs being able to do i but not us. Re: Disaster: Saints VFL standalone team delayed again
Some federal money was pumped into Whitten Oval in Gillard's time as PM wasnt it?
Was that her electorate (or close to it) and she was also a Dogs fan?
So that explains why the Dogs could do it and not us.
So if we can get a Saints man (or lady) up as PM - we should be good to go! Might be centuries before that happens...

Re: Disaster: Saints VFL standalone team delayed again
Why can't we stand up a reserves team and have them play at somewhere other than Moorabbin until the venue is ready?
The two don't need to be linked do they?
The stand alone team is the most important thing to the development of the players isn't it?
