I suppose your wife reads your posts.Dr Spaceman wrote:Like 3gs I will not be attending, even though I have attended almost every Victorian game over the last 40 odd years.
Like 3gs I find the time slot annoying. Combined with a recent change to V/Line timetabling I’d be lucky to walk in the door before a quarter to ten.
I actually made my decision many weeks ago, before Lenny announced his retirement. With that now confirmed I took the opportunity to say my goodbyes against the Bulldogs. I will also say some further goodbyes to the little pixelated #7 on my TV screen over the next two weeks.
The 4:40pm MCG scheduling wasn’t the only factor as Sunday is also my wife’s Birthday. Although she’d probably be okay with me attending if I really pushed it, it helped form my decision when I made it a couple of months back.
At the end of the day I do love Lenny.
But I really, really love my wife.

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

I will be there with Mrs kft regardless of the weather. But if it's a nice day we'll ask them to open a window in the box.

Lenny never took a backward step and I will be there with bells on to see his last game in melb.
Wouldn't miss it for the world , let alone an unfavourable timeslot.

Yes it's a cr@p timeslot.
Yes we'll probably get killed.
But it's our team playing and they deserve our support.
I'll be there.
PS Note that it is free. It's our make-up game so there is no excuse.

SP! There IS another soccer team in Liverpool! As a matter of fact, it's also British-owned! ( no reliance on the " baseball dollar" at Goodison Park! )

Re: Hard Decision
Taking longer to get home really is not an excuse. We're talking about the distance from the MCG and docklands here, not Subiaco and the Gabba. 3.4k apart and that's going via car or tram on main roads, not that far to walk.3rd generation saint wrote:Okay as I said I start work at 5 am 2 hours before sunrise. I am up in Sydney right now for last weeks game. I live in Hoppers Crossing so it takes me longer to get home.
Public Transport would take even longer to get home. The only parking available is in the MCG car park so it costs more to go.
As I said at Etihad not a problem, I'm home in half an hour.
I may still go because yes I do want to be at Lenny's last game in Melbourne, but the AFl us more interested in Foxtel's ratings than the people who actually want to go to the game.
There is more parking than ONLY the MCG, you obviously don't drive around and look. I can think of 4 hidden car parks where you don't need to pay a cent, off Bridge and Swan. Yes they do say no public access but in 4 years of parking for the footy and soccer I've yet to get a fine. If you don't want to take that risk there are many other car parks in the area that do not charge $15 ph like Wilson in the city. If you live in Hoppers Crossing why not drive to footscray station and park there?
If you can get home within 30 minutes from etihad it should take no more double that from the G taking into account for swapping trains etc.

Re: Hard Decision
On a Sunday afternoon there is very little inexpensive on street parking. I experienced this last year with the same time slot. It does take an extra 15 minutes plus as I have to get from one side of the city to the other, plus try and get out of MCG car park.
I won't get home until after 8pm probably closer to 8:30.
Despite this and the Bells Palsy I'm suffering I have decided to go so I will see you there.
