It was the Freo game - he did his shoulder and went down the race into the rooms and came back on and played well. But sometimes the extent of those injuries doesnt impact until a few days later... He might have then thought he could play on with the pain. But must have been too damaged.saintbrat wrote:was it this week or last where he took the hit as he hit the ground-- then came back on when commentators least expected it

Re: Injury Update
Did a bit of reading up on the arthroscopic shoulder stabilisation proceedure that Dunstan underwent. It's a variable proceedure depending on the amount of damage to the static stabilising structures of the shoulder (Ligaments, capsule, socket)...the idea is to tighten up, clean out any debris and generally get the shoulder back to as close to full stability as possible (the the name of the proceedure implies)...Good success rate, upwards of 90% and low complication risk...but the rehab is pretty slow and deliberate to allow the tighened structres to really knit for want of a layman term...if you read instructions for the general public, it's 4-6 months off contact sport (for a fairly extensive stabilisation - less if there's less initial damage which i think was the case with DUnstan, given his ability to play on for a week albeit in pain), so hopefully his is a lot less...able to keep the legs fit and strong with bike work, can run after about 6 weeks and obvioulsy work on the core and the unaffected arm...
so in summ, hopefully he's good to go for pre season and hit the ground running with full confidence in his shoulder and he can keep gaining strength and power!!

I called it before last week's game that he'd copped some hits (head and shoulder), was hence looking a bit suss, and should have rested.Saint wagga wrote:Did a bit of reading up on the arthroscopic shoulder stabilisation proceedure that Dunstan underwent.

Re: Injury Update
Looks like he definently either aggravated it or sustained it playing against Freo when I think it was Crowley fell across his arm awkwardly...think they just thought they'd see how he held up after a game, and probably decided it was too painful to persist with...if it was too unstable to start with, don't think they would have played him against the Suns, more a tolerance test...either way would have needed the Surgery...at an educated guess.Dave McNamara wrote:I called it before last week's game that he'd copped some hits (head and shoulder), was hence looking a bit suss, and should have rested.Saint wagga wrote:Did a bit of reading up on the arthroscopic shoulder stabilisation proceedure that Dunstan underwent.

Re: Injury Update
I like this news-- good on many fronts but especially for Nick
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/a ... 7019109644
We know we are still reliant on Nick, obviously,” Richardson said. “(But) he has had a better year physically this year than last year.
“We’ve had a really good chat about how he is going with his body.
“I reckon at this stage of the season last year, he was probably having his knee drained every second week. And this year he hasn’t had his knee drained since the New Zealand game (in Round 6).”

Re: Injury Update
Richardson said injuries this season had exposed 41 Saints to senior football, with more game time likely up for grabs next week with Josh Bruce and Jack Billings in doubt for Saturday's clash with the Swans. Both will be scanned on Monday, with Bruce aggravating a complaint with his left shin and Billings tweaking his hamstring in the game's final minutes.dragit wrote:Anyone know how badly Bruce & Billings were injured yesterday?

Re: Injury Update
Another depressing update from the club - Hickey to London surgeon to have patella tendon assessed, and Billings out for the season with his hamstring strain.
At least it's described as a strain. He deserves a rest!
And Bruce out for the season now as well.

On a positive note, Gears available for selection.

Re: Injury Update
Just a hunch but I reckon big josh bruce was carrying a stress reaction in his shin, the pre cursor of a stress fracture and it may have progressed during Sundays game...not many 'shin injuries' you can carry for a while, you can get compartment syndrome type pain, but my monies on the stressy...no major issue, should be well rested and good to go before preseason, can continue to work on upper body and core strength in the interim whilst not running...
Billings - likely fatigue related hammy strain, if rehabed well should be sweet!
Hickey - concerning but hopefully a sign the club just really want to get if right by going all out in the diagnostics

Well we've definitely ticked the "wear out, don't rust out" box this year. Maybe a bit of rust might be good.SemperFidelis wrote:Another depressing update from the club - Hickey to London surgeon to have patella tendon assessed, and Billings out for the season with his hamstring strain.

Didn't they just bring him off the LTI list?
This injury is unfortunate for Gears, and rubs salt into Minch's wounds.
I assume that with only two rounds to go, there is effectively no such thing as a LTI list spot that can be created...?
Is there anyway we can get Minch back onto the senior list? We may well need him regardless, as our numbers to field a full team are dwindling.

Surely if there wasn't enough players to field a side (just saying) then someone could come off the rookie list, surely?Dave McNamara wrote:saintbrat wrote:Jarryn Geary Calf Season
