Give Jones a farewell game against Richmond

Post: # 1490792Post Bluthy »

I know nothing official has been announced about Clinton's future. But if the club are pretty sure he won't be on our list next year then playing Clinton this week so he can get a good clap off from Saints supporters would be a nice touch. He's been a warrior for us

I'm not sure about the farewell game…

Is it something reserved for special players?

How many games do you play to warrant one? At what level?

I'm not dead against it and he may have earned a game on form anyway… but you really don't want a young guy to miss out on any experience at this point in our development - every game helps.

CJ I have in the good ordinary bracket, who gave his all, but is no club champion.

If he deserves a game ahead of others through form then yes otherwise bad luck and good luck in the future.

Pretty tough there Plugger - were you as open/shut last year with ragards to Kosi because he certainly didn't warrant a game on form? I think there's certainly room in the team for a farewell game in either of the last 2 rounds given our huge injury list. Good reward for a commited team man and clearly a popular member of the playing group.

Yes i was actually but most didnt agree with me. Im not expecting everyone to agree now. By the Kosi had announced he was retiring so at the moment its completely different case.

fair point - although if the 'paid' media also only wrote about what was fact and not spectulate/come up with some form of gap filler on slow news days in club land, they'd loose 3/4 of their material ;-)

That maybe true but imagine if the club came out and said its CJ fairwell game and he said WTF.

well we had the milney/kosi/blake farewell
then the lenny farewell
now we want a jones farewell
soon will be a chips farewell.
then joey and roo will need a farewell.

just cant think of any other club having a farewell?
nothing for glass or cassisi - both club legends.
yet apparently we want one for jones.
its getting sad. having a farewell of jones is like the tiges having one for jake king.

Not fair to compare though Con. Cassisi was given a game and they are finals bound and Glass is injured so cant play. many bottom clubs give fairwell games and certain players deserve it. Im unsure CJ is one especially as he hasnt retired yet.

Wow, some of you blokes...

How much more of the romance and tradition of the game do we want to lose?

Should Kosi and the Blake have been given their farewell games last year...?

Come on guys, CJ has certainly earnt a farewell game, and IMHO most of our fans would love the chance to say a goodbye and thank-you.

It's romance, it's tradition, it's doing what is right. Give CJ his send off game I say.

BTW, CJ should arguably be playing now... if based soley on form.

I don't give a single damn about any other club. THIS is what we do. Strength through loyalty. It actually means something not just a piece Latin that looks cool on our emblem. This can be our thing. We have heart and soul at this club unlike other corporatised plastic clubs. You show loyalty to this club then you will get back more love and support than you ever thought possible. We need to forge an identity and this is a way to do it.

It's not branded a "CJ farewell" game, you just play him so if he doesn't go around again then he has had a chance to get that last clap off. We look after our own. So we miss out on the silky skills of Saunders or Murdoch for a week - meh. Anyway I'd rather have Jones playing than Schneider hitting the post from 1 metre out.

I think if you play to the point where you are running around in the VFL on form, then you can't really expect a final hand clap.

Loads of great players never receive a farewell game…

After we just pushed Dal Santo, Goddard and McEvoy out the door, playing the loyalty card now would actually be distasteful.

How come the club didn't call Watters last game as coach his farewell game...I'm sure the knives were sharpened before then.

Big difference, Kosi actually won games and had a career.

Jones has been at the right place at the right time when we needed a <edited by mods>, mumbling, bumbling fool of a footballer who could not kick on the list.

So no, go away, never come back.
