We are crazy if we don't sign Chips for 2015
Gotta give him another year, it's a no-brainer.
He has looked good since returning and we really need him, not only to keep mildly competitive but also to keep his experience.

100% in favour of keeping Chips for another season. And I do recognise that it is not 2009 …
(Not to mention I still think he deserves the 200 games, yes, sentimental foolishness)

K, I'm happy to go with any mail that you have. I was just working off the puff piece the club put out this week. Do you think he is in 2 minds?SainterK wrote:Was uneasy about this one, he's not sure so I'm not sure

Sorry that was ambiguous, I meant that Chips is super keen, but I don't think he's convinced the club is

I'd be pissed off if we don't resign him especially with the frailty in the backline.

Re: We are crazy if we don't sign Chips for 2015
Honestly is this really a post?
I feel sorry for people who feel this way.
Signing or not signing Chips is 100% irrelevant to our club and its success.
Those still basking in 09/10 and hoping that a 'revival' from our older experienced players to push us up the ladder are going to be seriously disappointed.
Those talking of the 'teacher' 'student' transition should also stop their dreaming.
We are on the BOTTOM. Start dealing with it.
We will will only improve from the bottom up.
Our rise up the ladder will ONLY be from the following factors:
1. Coaching/Development/Experience/Improvement from players 19-24.
2. Recruitment/Drafting
3. Trading
4. List/Salary cap Mgt.
5. Luck/Psychology
Signing or not of people like Chips has ZERO affect on our future ladder position.Besides emotional 'feelings' for duffle coat wearing fans it is a question of no importance or consequence at all.
BUT
If I was list manager I would keep 2/3 of Dempster/Gwilt/Fisher.
One of them simply HAS to go.
Id also say goodbye to BOTH Schneider and Jones.
If the club thinks finishing bottom and keeping the same Salary Cap structure and 'mates' super fund is ok for team culture- well its no wonder its the least successful in AFL/VFL history.
Get professional. Grow nuts. Its not a mates superannuation club.
P.S
From the history of saints.com.au as a PR tool - we almost know 100% that its articles are accurate so the fact they wrote this article tells me that ii it is certain Fisher HAS already signed for 2015.

I leaning to keeping Fisher. Fisher and Gilbo last played together in round 6 2013. Therein lies a story......

Gee there is a fair bit of experience in that backline.
It will be very interesting to see how they go against the Buddy and Tippet show.

Con there are many players who could get delisted. Your arguement, which is silly, is its not 2009 and we mave many experienced players anyway. makes sense if there wasnt enough players to delist but there is. Just because a player is young doesnt mean he is a better option than a 32 year old. A young player that will never make it is clearly a worse option that a 32 year old that if fit plays 22 games. And the reason we have a lot of of over 30's still on our list is we have bugger all 25 to 29 year olds like most clubs have. The other thing you always fail to see is the things at training these experienced guys do to recover from games and get ready for the next week. Its important for the young kids they see all that not to mention his experience on the ground. That cant be replaced. We are going to be terrible next year but if having Fisher plays helps us in the future years then he should be kept whatever age he is. Thats what professional clubs do.

Maybe some of the people who would like to Fisher stay would like Gilbert traded out and Gwilt retired…
Maybe some people would prefer that have some semblance of competitiveness next year, we already have % of 60… if we get belted by much more than we are currently, then the good young players we have won't want to stick around.
Re: We are crazy if we don't sign Chips for 2015
Lets see if he can get through the next 3 games without injury first. His class has been a welcome addition in the last few games. But his body is a huge risk. Dempster and Ray are locked in. I'm hearing Gwilt is going to be kept for cover because his body is consistent. May come down to if Gilbert stays. But there is a big risk element with Fishers body. If he's recontracted but out for most of the next year then that's a wasted spot we would could have tried on a new young player.

We absolutly need to give Chips another year. Especially if the experiment with Bruce as a forward pans out.

I think this is sensible, and probably why nothing is certain yet. I'm happy for them to wait and see how he pulls up after round 23.Bluthy wrote:Lets see if he can get through the next 3 games without injury first. But if spots are so tight that we're choosing between veterans who might break down, I'd still take Chips over Schneids.

I'd like to see how Sam goes in these final games, and if he pulls up well, then why not give the guy another year? He has a lot of class and experience that the youngsters will benefit from.

Re: We are crazy if we don't sign Chips for 2015
Over the last 3 weeks, Chips has been our best defender.
We have already lost our best midfielder for next year in Lenny, lets spread the load over a few years in transition.
Chips to go one more year, Roo to go end of 2020.

Re: We are crazy if we don't sign Chips for 2015
At least three of Fisher, Gwilt, Dempster, Gilbert, Jones and Schneider will not be on the list next season.
Dempster has signed on, so he's safe and so he should be.
Gilbert is the next most important player in that group and should stay.
Fisher is 50/50 and may depend on our ability to attract key defenders in the trade period. Personally I'd keep him if he can run out the season.
Gwilt, Jones and Schneider appear to be at the end.

Gwilt seems certain to stay and there is a slight chance Schneider will stay and thats because we dont have many on the 25 to 29 year old age group and the longer these guys stay the more chance we can get some players into that age group. I would say only CJ is certain to go in that group and maybe one other. Cant see 3 going unless we trade one.

Re: We are crazy if we don't sign Chips for 2015
Con, you seem to think that the sky is going to fall in if we keep any older players.
It's all well and good to want to fill the team with youth, but the problem is they're unproven and frankly a lot of them aren't good enough.
Personally, I think if Fisher can stay fit it's a no brainer to keep him on, he gives a lot to our defence which in turns helps the developing young defenders (Wright, Delaney, Webster etc).
If he just spends another year on the sidelines though then it's not worth it.
