Does Lenny deserve a % of revenue from this weeks game
Yep the club is struggling money wise and lenny seems like a person who never suggest this but does he deserve some money from this weeks game. The amount of items are selling because of lenny must be huge compared to normal. Also has another club ever taken the maketing to such as this making this game all about one player. I certainly think his manager be interested in some of the monies generated. Just like to get peoples thoughts. My opinion is he is entilted to some money. Not a huge amount but just appreciation of using his name and image to generate a probable large some of money from the club. And to all those who think he has been paid well in the past well thats likely to be true but I reckon compared to a few of our other stars he has stucj loyal and never been rewarded anything like Rooy who has been rewarded as much for his ability and also his abilty to generate money for the club.

It is difficult considering the usual average joe wage versus footballer's wage.plugger66 wrote:Yep the club is struggling money wise and lenny seems like a person who never suggest this but does he deserve some money from this weeks game. I for one am happy with player payments as the blokes deserve it. They get paid to absolutely cain their body day in day out. Good on them.
Does Lenny get a cut of the gate? No. To me, that is what player payments are for.
No doubting he deserves all he gets but where does it begin and where does it end really?

Well it begins and ends in this game. I suppose im saying that Rooy has been paid extra over the years because he generates plenty for club and dont believe Lenny has ever really been paid extra because of that. he will generate a hell of a lot of money over the next few weeks. What they get paid over an average joe is really a different discussion. For all I know he is getting a few extra bucks. Just thought it was an interesting topic.

I don't think so Plugger, but it would be interesting to see if there were such minutia in contracts that deal with players and how the club markets them to generate revenue etc...It was interesting watching that Australian story episode on a former Master Chef contestant and it highlighted how biased those contracts were towards the producers of the show, how they literally could portray/use the contestent for marketting promotions and even any money they made beyond the show...in any way they saw fit ...different kettle of fish altogether with pro footy players but it does get you wondering what else is included in player contracts...agree, interesting topic given how widely clubs use players in various roles...
Re: Does Lenny deserve a % of revenue from this weeks game
Absolutely not - not because I don't love Lenny, I do.
His wage requires him to play footy as well as be an ambassador for the club (like every other player) via media appearances, and upholding his reputation. The fact that he is exemplary at all those contractual obligations should be reflected in the wage, and I hope it is, but there is no place for such bonuses and the precedent is unnecessary.

What the club has done is pretty much a precendent anyway. Building up a game because of one player is very uncommon and selling T shirts like Lennys has probably never happened before. Players get bonuses for many things in their contract. I doubt anything like this is his contract so he probably wont get money but I reckon the club at the start of the year werent planning a whole game and merchandise on just one player. The thing is Rooy has basically been paid for the same thing for 10 years now, Lenny hasnt.

Agreed we should abandon all marketing,TV rights sponsorships etc and get back to the "good ole days" of players earning a pittance instead. I am sure that players will think that is a good idea.
While Lenny may not get as much as Rooey, I would be confident that he gets more than most players.
Our gate revenues certainly will not have been able to pay his wages this year, as we actually lose money on many games at present. Sponsorship is down as well. Membership is down. Did we not make a huge loss last year? I would imagine that most if not all players will be happy that we are getting some extra money at present in order to meet our bills.
If the T-shirts and hats don't sell I doubt that Lenny will meet the shortfall......
I would imagine that this would be covered in all players contracts and that they are not paid only for playing games. If not in his contract, then yes he could ask for a share of the profits.
If Rooey kicks 15 goals this week does he ask for more money on top of his contract on the basis that he has never kicked that many in a single game before?

Talk about going from one extreme to another. Who has suggested they shouldnt have the game set aside for lenny or even the T shirts. certainly not me. And of course he gets paid more than most other players. What that has to do with this topic makes no sense. And no he wont cover the short fall because im only suggesting he gets extra if the club makes great money on the event. When did i suggest he gets money if the club lose money? And if they are paid for not just playing games then arent you sort of agreeing with me that he may get extra for this game.

What a stupid idea, where does it end if the club is not able to market their own players?

Coupla questions...
Will there be that much more money generated because it is Lenny's tribute match?
How many t-shirts do you think will be sold? How much are they?
How many more supporters will attend this weeks match because it's Lenny's tribute match, will it be significantly more than if it was just a regular H&A?

Is Lenny putting up the cash for all of the merchandising stock and all of the marketing and advertising costs and extra resources to provide the tribute events?

No I wouldnt think so. I reckon everyone would know he isnt. Seems a very silly question but there maybe a reason for it. I cant see it though.

Sorry, from the questions you posed in your OP I thought you were looking for a deeper than normal discussion about an off-field issue so I thought I'd ask some questions that might contribute to the overall understanding of the subject matter.plugger66 wrote:Cairnsman wrote:Is Lenny putting up the cash for all of the merchandising stock and all of the marketing and advertising costs and extra resources to provide the tribute events?

Well that question wasnt a deep question. of course Lenny wouldnt be involved. Everyone knows that. Its is the club putting up all the money obviously or there wouldnt be even the question of who gets the profits. You surely see that dont you? What was the reason for th question CM? Im sure you knew the answer before you asked it.

Ironic. I would have then thought your OP was a complete waste of time because I would have thought that everyone knows that Lenny isn't entitled to anything outside of what his contract provides and that the club can maximise the profits from their players anyway they like within the bounds of agreed contracts. Probably should ask the mods to delete the thread now that we've reached a conclusion to your pondering.plugger66 wrote:Cairnsman wrote:Sorry, from the questions you posed in your OP I thought you were looking for a deeper than normal discussion on a off-field issue so I thought I'd ask some questions that might contribute to the overall understanding of the subject matter.plugger66 wrote:Cairnsman wrote:Is Lenny putting up the cash for all of the merchandising stock and all of the marketing and advertising costs and extra resources to provide the tribute events?

Re: Does Lenny deserve a % of revenue from this weeks game
I think it's a bit late to be referencing other players wages…
I don't think Lenny would want to be portrayed as a martyr either.
These guys images are marketing tools in an entertainment industry, players that want to and can leverage their image while they are playing should do so, Lenny doesn't strike me as someone who has wanted to do this a great deal. He's still made millions of dollars playing football and has well and truly shown true value.
If he wanted a cut of this retirement merchandise I am sure he could have, but he's probably more interested in helping the club again which is in financial ruins.

Re: Does Lenny deserve a % of revenue from this weeks game
My guess is that Lenny would be receiving soe type of 'royalty' for the use f his 'image' and 'name' etc by the Club.
I believe all player contracts contain a clause to cover this area.

Agree with all that but really the OP is a hypothetical. He isnt going to ask for money for a start. His contract may mean he gets a cut anyway, who knows. I suppose my real point is Rooy, and this isnt a knock on him, has been getting a money for this for nearly his whole career where as other players dont seem to. I hope Lenny has a portion built into his contract. I also hope the club make a huge amount of money on this. We need every cent we can get.
