Steven is intense and works really hard. Wish others had the same desire. Yes he butchers it sometimes but he's not alone there.Con Gorozidis wrote:perfectionist wrote:He's a real champ. Jack just needs regular injury-free footy. Hes the least of our worries.
Absolutely. He needs the rest now until next season. Others need a rest for other reasons.
We need to ensure that when the midfield is failing Nick gets to move to midfield for long periods to ensure we get the discipline to working with a more standards forward structure. Currently still too much reliance on Nick here.
Lenny goes next year. We need midfielders in the draft. Nick may go some time later then we need some other big man options to either enable cover for defence or kick goals or do rucking (Lycett)
Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.
You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

Yep Shawry, we need another ruckman. Such moronic, ill informed commentary. To think, he actually is paid to be across this kind of basic detail.
Let's assess the 'crazy' trade then: Savage was just about our best player tonight and gas been excellent the last month. Dunstan should win the Rising Star (if the selection committee actually assesses dispassionately on the data, not on media hype) and Acres looks like he will be a player. But yep, what a disaster to trade McEvoy, who couldn't win a hit out to save his life.
Lynch and Shaw: we really had to endure the B team of commentary tonight. They are total meat heads who just blurt out cliche after cliche...

The upside to the Fox commentary is that if a f#ckwit like Tony Shaw slammed our recruiting, it probably means that we're on the right path.
Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.

IT IS a team game.
Won and lost in the mid field.
Idiot.
If you know anything about footy, you would know that it was a dumb post.
BTW. Maybe Dempster coughed the ball up because he had no options. Why would that be?

When you start from the bottom the only way to go is up.

Well to be honest our recruiting in the past has been s***. That's why we are lastSaintPav wrote:The upside to the Fox commentary is that if a f#ckwit like Tony Shaw slammed our recruiting, it probably means that we're on the right path.

Re: Game Thread v GC Suns
We need quality players for various roles. Good sized Key position players we need, mids with pace who can dispose of the ball properly and above all patience whilst the club develops the players recruited in the last couple of years who have no where near minimum 50 AFL games experience.
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

We are not last by mistake.
We are last for a reason.
No use blaming Tony Shaw.

Re: Game Thread v GC Suns
we are gettin there, but need to seriously concentrate on defense.
we get gilbo back soon, and Geary will help, but fisher & dempster are our only 2 reliable defenders and they get butchered when the ball comes in long...
i agree we need midfield, and fwd, but defense has been a massive hole and it doesn't seem to be getting filled

The question is, do we recruit a mid or a tall, what are the weaknesses of the 2 players constantly mentioned on this site as potential number 1 draft picks, surely they aren't perfect.Con Gorozidis wrote:We are not last by mistake.

The point Ned was making was sound though, we are not last because Ben McEvoy has been tearing it up for Box Hill.Con Gorozidis wrote:We are not last by mistake.

I'm worried about Curren now as Shaw kept banging on about how well he was going. He really liked the way Curren caught the ball in his hands and got tackled.

Re: Game Thread v GC Suns
It is disappointing that we fall away so easily at times. We didn't deserve to get beaten by 50+ points tonight. We gifted them at least 6 goals and didn't take our chances when we had them.
The biggest positive from tonight was Bruce, and to many surprises here, Stanley. You have a bad game and still manage two goals is a small positive.
But we kept slipping and sliding all night, we fumbled and dropped easy marks. Sadly I think one of the problems with our backline is that they are mostly players at the wrong end of their careers, Gwilt, Fisher, Dempster all looked tired players tonight.
Let's face it, 3 years ago, Gwilt would have simply slotted that goal from 50 instead trying to pass it to someone.
Unfortunately what we had tonight was another, part time performance where we just could not apply pressure or the whole game and gave up a little to easily.
Schneider should be at Sandringham next week and maybe White should be given his chance.

Not fazed with being last. Pick 1 beckons. Not blaming Shaw for being last. Whoever was in charge of list management in the 5 years pre-Pelchin is the reason we are bottom. We should have been continually injecting talent with the picks we had in the high teens and 20s during this period (like Geelong) but, alas, did not.
I just get frustrated with ill informed commentary. He is paid to read the stats, study the lists and he comes up with this crap? Saying we need another Ruckman is akin to saying GWS need another power forward. Hickey, Longer, Holmes, Pierce and Stanley. I think we are sorted in the ruck dept.

If, with that comment, they were being critical of us for getting rid of McEvoy then it shows that they don't really follow football.Ned Stark wrote:Not fazed with being last. Pick 1 beckons. If we still had McEvoy i'm sure they would have said we still need a ruckman.
