It has been reported by a reliable - although unofficial - twitter source that Luke Beveridge will leave Hawthorn as an assistant coach to take on the role of Director of Coaching at St Kilda.

I like the sound of this appointment.

Comes directly from strong club with premiership credentials, but unassailable personal links to our heritage.

I don't think he played in the 1997 grand final, but can't for the life of me remember why. Others might.

Will be interesting to see how he, Richo and the Pelican line up in the box on match days.

Because he was no good would be the first reason given.

Could well be, but he was on our list for a couple more years after that, was just wondering.

The media reporting that he is a very good get and giving some credit to the Matt Finnis influence as the reason he may of been snared.

Hopefully brings some awesome IP.

I reckon we should recruit someone from Geelong and Sydney's football department and pick the eyes out of their IP.

the Swans IP is pretty easy to work out on your own .... find the best players in the comp and offer buckets of cash to come join the team and maybe win a flag or two ...

Some people never give up trying do they?

Good on you Plug for keeping the faith.

But seriously, do you think the run from East Bentleigh to Seaford would be an issue for a bloke on the kind of coin he would be getting as DoC?

How would it compare with going from East Bentleigh to Wheelers Hill as an Assistant Coach?

We did.

The former was a disaster, the latter, uhmmmm..., contentious.

(An argument can be mounted that the legacy of the former contributed significantly to the legacy of the latter.)

Thought so. He's a big unit! Clarko seems to rate him very highly.

Looks to come with good credentials although note that Bolton, not Beveridge, was appointed interim coach this year, and presumably Ratten would have been second choice. So a little way down the pecking order.

I think that had a lot more to do with what the coaches were doing at the hawks structure wise. Bevos position couldnt be replaced as easy as Boltons.

Sorry if it is a dim question but what does the director of coaching actually do? How does he fit into the coaching hierarchy? Does he have a job in the box on gameday? :?

I think Neil Craig is director of coaching. A big match day role that could be in the box or perhaps ground level that Craig had. I like that option. Gives solid support to the boys on the bench and offfers a different viewpoint that can be relayed back to the box.

Aa for the org structure and weekday role I assume all assistant coaches report to him whilst following Richo's philosophy

I'm guessing to have a common direction flowing through to Sandringham's coaches as well. If they want to work on development aspects or are trialling certain moves for the seniors I imagine he needs to negotiate that with the Sandy guys. Probably works out who will be put back down and who will be elevated, development needs, allotting duties to certain coaches and sit in on team selection etc.
