Re: Go Brisbane
GWS will win the spoon and we will get the exact same player we would have if finished last! GWS want Petracca and we want a key forward. I very much doubt they will trade Boyd but stranger things have happened.
Perhaps they want Wright also because of his rucking and forward prowess, more so than Boyd who is mostly a forward.

Re: Go Brisbane
High draft Picks, father-son picks and/or money = premierships.
Which one of those choices do we have access to?
Maybe we throw in a decent recruitment system and development program as supplement choices which only time can tell if they are something we have.
We need high draft picks for probably the next 3 years.

Re: Go Brisbane
Silly Thread. All I hope is we beat the GC and stuff what other clubs do. If someone could tell me for a fact pick one will be the beat player maybe then I could even slightly hope but i doubt it. WB seemed to do ok with their pick last year and I dont think they finished bottom.

The difference is that we probably get a priority pick this year or next year if we don't win another win. The difference between a priority even at the end of the first round would seriously fast track our list profile for the future. Imagine getting access to another Dunstan for free. If you think it would be the equivalent to the compo for losing Dal for free it sounds pretty good.

I don't care about No. 1 draft picks so much but I reckon top 5 picks are a must.plugger66 wrote:Silly Thread. All I hope is we beat the GC and stuff what other clubs do. Yep, 26 wooden spoons is enough. The club should be striving to avoid another.Ridiculous.
I can't believe some supporters are barracking for another spoon.

No honour in second last either. If we are s*** I want a limited time down in the gutter. The wooden spoon isn't as much of a disgrace as it once was as the draft has made it almost a positive step forward.

Re: Go Brisbane
Well the way GC are playing Ablettless, I think we are a big show next week. I only expected 5 wins this season, and that will fulfil my expectations.
Mind you winning 5 games and still finishing last means a much more even competition below the top 3, and I can see a lot of teams above us, doing a lot worse next season.
If we finish bottom, so be it, it's what we do about it is what matters, good and smart recruiting, developing the players we have recruited and laying the foundation to take that extra step this time.
The other thing we need is a major membership drive, we need to get back those members we lost and those who never have been a member.
Also a sponsorship drive, we need a very major and very well known sponsor ie like Microsoft. Yes I know it's dreaming, but hell, Bill Gates could buy Etihad stadium with his spare change. Might be the only way we get a great stadium deal.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.
Re: Go Brisbane
I think the GC game and the Lenny farewell game are both winnable.
6 wins - not sure where that would put us.
The No1 pick IMO gives you leverage to potentially get a very good player. It's not only the best young player in the draft but potential a player trade and pick.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Re: Go Brisbane
I just had a look at the AFL ladder predictor. We have a very good chance of avoiding the spoon with some winnable games but higher than 17th is unlikely given the teams around us also have winnable games. GWS look likely to take another spoon which suits me fine.
Sounds like the first 2-3 picks will be beauties. Happy to avoid another spoon on that count.

I hope this is how it pans out ...WinnersOnly wrote:GWS will win the spoon and we will get the exact same player we would have if finished last! GWS want Petracca and we want a key forward. I very much doubt they will trade Boyd but stranger things have happened.

Not sure anyone is sooking unless you say that people hoping we dont come last is called sooking. That would be strange. Sounds like you are sooking over people who arent sooking. And im thinking of the future and the last pick one that was the best player in the draft was taken 14 years ago.

Just on that...I'd take the next three wooden spoons if it meant it yielded another Nick. R.plugger66 wrote:matrix wrote:stop sooking about another spoon ffs

A once in a generation type player almost meant a flag for us so I'd take the pain of more wooden spoons to get that again...in a heart beat.

Im unsure there is a rule wheree you can do that. if you had finished last every year since 2000 though you would not have got the best player in the draft. And Roo with lenny, Dal, BJ, Chips and Joey is still a star but he isnt getting us to a GF.

Reckon Jobe or Matty ferguson have BJ covered. You could argue Cooney but due to injury hasnt really been anywhere near the best player for many years. Had one fantastic year but over a career I reckon Chips or Raph have him covered.
