Blessing In Disguise
Dempster being KO'd in the first minutes was a blessing in disguise.
Hoping Sean is okay and not wishing him any ill will, I think if he wasn't KO'd we wouldn't have won.
Sean plays a very negative game and we'd have just kicked the ball around the back line as usual. With him out we went forward instead of looking for the easy out.
I've watched the game three times and this seems to be obvious to me! Anyone else notice this?

Re: Blessing In Disguise
So you are saying we are a ten goal worse team with Dempster in the team?

With due respect Bernard I think you may have been smoking the same thing that Neil smoked in the 70's

No, I'm saying we played differently because Sean was not there to play his usual negative game.Bunk_Moreland wrote:So you are saying we are a ten goal worse team with Dempster in the team?
Wow
Richo said he didn't see that performance coming, so that added to my observation.

Thanks for the updates Tony and K. He went down pretty much in front of me and it was horrible through the binoculars. I never want to see that again.

In the OP you stated if Dempster had of played we wouldn't have won.Bernard Shakey wrote:No, I'm saying we played differently because Sean was not there to play his usual negative game.Bunk_Moreland wrote:So you are saying we are a ten goal worse team with Dempster in the team?

Considering we won by 58 points, it implies we are a 10 goal worse team with Dempster being in the team.
It also implies that Dempster would not have followed team rules and go long and use the centre corridor as Richo repeatedly stated he wanted the players to do.
Curren played his usual negative game and we won by 10 goals.

Re: Blessing In Disguise
Yep, that's what I said and I'll stick with it. I also mentioned that Sean went off in the first few minutes. This forced the team to take the game on straight away. The ten goal win was because Freo threw the towel in.Bunk_Moreland wrote:In the OP you stated if Dempster had of played we wouldn't have won.Bernard Shakey wrote:No, I'm saying we played differently because Sean was not there to play his usual negative game.Bunk_Moreland wrote:So you are saying we are a ten goal worse team with Dempster in the team?

Re: Blessing In Disguise
Without doubt Dumpster IS in our best 22.
He is a plus not a negative.
To say he costs us 10 goals is just absurd.
Even Plugger at his peak wasn't worth 10 goals to us.

It fired them up some more, certainly.
Dempster is for sure best 22, Bernie, I strongly disagree also FWIW

Re: Blessing In Disguise
Bernard;
Let me run this thought by you...Maybe Saints need to adopt that 'buzzing in the ear thing' that the AFL have introduced for umpires so that they don't miss the end of the quarter....and Bernard...I reckon the Sainters can take it one step further
If Seanyboy or any of our boys kick the footy backwards we need to give them a zap with some electrodes connected to some tender bits...or y'know somewhere where it hurts heaps

"Another storied win in Robert Harvey's career. They say he is the embodiment of their motto of strength through loyalty, and on the day he became just the tenth man to play 350 league games the saints reward him with a seemingly impossible victory."

What a stupid thread.
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.
Re: Blessing In Disguise
Dempster is now not even a negative player. If anything he goes for his marks ro much. Cant work this thread out at all. Its really weitd with no basis at all.

Re: Blessing In Disguise
NO. If you watched RICHO after the game he said we were changing things up going more attacking, using Stanley and other options more. Using savage off half back to KICK LONG and CARRY.
This wasnt a fluke. Takes time adjusting to coaches plans and for the coach to find out what players do WHAT best.
2020 Flag is ours.

Re: Blessing In Disguise
Bernard you do post some strange things from time to time. "Freo threw the towel in". Don't think so, given every game for them is a chance for a home qualifying final and straight to the prelim. That statement also diminishes our own performance. Credit where credit's due Bernard - we were great.Bernard Shakey wrote:
