Commentators
Was great watching the match with commentators being blown away by our performance - instead of the usual bagging we have been coping this last year or so
Great 2 hours of footy

Re: Commentators
They always barrack for the underdog, its for the neutrals watching, however today I think the likes of Dermie were genuinely excited and happy to see a huge upset and blokes like Rhys stand up.bergholt wrote:They were all barracking for us - no-one likes a Ross Lyon side.

Re: Commentators
If he is, he needs his eyes checked as he has been shocking in recent weeks. He was calling CJ Reiwoldt a few weeks ago - was Roo commentating us too? Some big supporting there too - I remember a loud YES when TC kicked a goal. Enjoyed the saints bias todayVerdun66 wrote:He is...and it showed! I'm looking forward to watching the replay.

Sandy is definitely red, white & black. Eddie was it again though.......at one stage he said something along the lines of 'how can these guys expect to get a priority pick when they're going to knock off the second placed team'. Eddie, please leave your Collingwood Prez hat at home when you're calling games....

Re: Commentators
I was at the game and listened to the 3AW commentary.
It was remarkably one sided and they were virtually cheering every StKilda goal, especially Tim Lane who actually gave us a chance before the game.

Dermie was genuinely being positive towards the Saints and I think it was him that cried YES when Curran kicked his goal.ozrulestrace wrote:I'm looking forward to watching the replay.

He like most wanted to see an upset not a regulation borefest Freo 9-4 goal win.
Makes it interesting when the uberdefence can get rattled by a genuine 18th placed team.
We could have scored 20+ today.

Dermie doesn't hate us IMO
He has strong opinions regarding lots if teams/players not just us.
Last years end was a shamozzle

Exactly. It's a big news story. Add to it Lenny and Roo's heartfelt wish to his sick sister this was something very rare and special.Bunk_Moreland wrote:Dermie was genuinely being positive towards the Saints and I think it was him that cried YES when Curran kicked his goal.ozrulestrace wrote:I'm looking forward to watching the replay.

Just imagine had Bruce been commentating. Would've been bigger than Cyril kicking a bag for the Hawks.

Sandy is definitely a Saints man. Dermie did his job well and special comments and expert stuff was informative and seemed quite sharp today -maybe he stayed off the turps last night

oh, i think he hates us...always has...but he would like seeing the dockers get a hiding...he wouldn't want his hawks playing freo in the west in a final.....
.everybody still loves lenny....and we always will

Re: Commentators
I'm 90% sure I recall a very young Sandy Roberts saying somewhere, that he was a Carlton supporter?
He does however always seem to stand up for the underdog during match calls , and not get caught up in the how good are " Geelong, hawks , swans, etc
Quite refreshing really. , think he's always called like that.

Knew Sandy in the Western District during the 80's before he moved to Melbourne, was definitely a Saints supporter then.

Re: Commentators
I watched on my IPad having a free trial of afl live pass. Normally I would have the sound down on the telly but I kept it up for our game.
The commentators were great! It was like they were on our cause once we had a flying start. Dermie mentioned Rhys early saying he's 23 and may be a late bloomer. Even roo seemed happy for us lol. It was a joy to listen too.
Naturally I had the volume off for the Giants/cats game. Watched half of it then went to bed giddy with Saints joy.
I wrote on Facebook after our win that the kids were wondering why I was having a little cry. Lenny, Roo's sister, winless 3 months, the still pain of the losing GFs. All a factor

Recuitto (roo) sorry about spelling but not to confuse with our Roo, grew up barracking for the saints. Loved Tony Lockett.stevie wrote:I watched on my IPad having a free trial of afl live pass. Normally I would have the sound down on the telly but I kept it up for our game.

Re: Commentators
Now I have slept on it , the time he said he was barracking for Carlton was when they were playing Collingwood in a grand Final. It was probably tongue in cheek with Lou Richardssupersaints wrote:I'm 90% sure I recall a very young Sandy Roberts saying somewhere, that he was a Carlton supporter?
