Re: Richo on drafting Saad
Will he still be available when it comes to our pick?
Can't see us drafting him with any early picks somehow.

I will be pissed if we use more than a rookie pick on him. people do realise he was dropped at least twice last year and had a pretty ordinary year. he is like half or more of our list. A lot of ordinary footballers like 2 of our rookies that some want upgraded in Minch and Shenton. Id get rid of both and hope to get some better. If we dont we wont go backwards.

Agree with plugger (again, what's going on)
Rookie, keeping in mind he only plays one position

Re: Richo on drafting Saad
No other club would want him imo, use our second or third rookie pick and welcome him back with open arms.

Sounds like a PR stunt. Might be all smoke and mirrors to shut up the media when we aren't ever really interested

Hopefully he's been on the gear during his suspension and he comes back a beast.

Re: Richo on drafting Saad
nothing more than a rookie pick
and I would love to see his accurate kicking back at the saints
but why would the club draw attention to him - if they dont draft him, they will only look mean spirited

I agree to only use a rookie pick on him but he is probably our second best forward behind riewoldt so him coming back would make a difference, his speed is what we lack as a team

Re: Richo on drafting Saad
maybe ... when he got done the club made a gentlemens agreement to get him back if the ban was less then two years provided he kept up to a specific fitness level ... now looking at it the club are wanting to push up his name to maybe entice another club to draft him as we kind of dont see the big value in him .. if he gets picked by someone else we say oh well all the best to him , if he doesnt get picked up the club will prob use the last rookie pick on him as a show of good faith ...sunsaint wrote:nothing more than a rookie pick

but thats just a good story in my head .. nothing more

Re: Richo on drafting Saad
He would want to have improved from his last seasons form for any AFL club to pick him up. Wish him well but hope we don't select another player who struggles to get 5 possessions a game. We have enough of them in our forward line atm.

Can't remember how many goals he kicked in his first season. Was it around 40?

Re: Richo on drafting Saad
would have him in front of TDL and honestly with Shnides half the player he once was prob have him in front of him based on the previous form of Saad ... that said a rookie spot is made for this kinda situation as it gives the bloke a second shot but doesnt really cost the team much ...8856brother wrote:He would want to have improved from his last seasons form for any AFL club to pick him up. 17 in the second so 45 goals in total

Agree. With TDL and Schneids a big chance to be axed next season Saad would be good back up on the rookie list.

Re: Richo on drafting Saad
You would not want to use say any of our first 4, maybe 5 picks, but IMO there would be no problem taking him with a pick after tat.
He is good enough to play now, so no need to rookie him.
If you don't believe he is good enough after already having looked at him first time round, then don't rookie him at all.
Personally i reckon our cupboard is bare for small forwards and so he would be worth a late selection in the draft. And he is an accurate kick on goal, which is something we lack.
It will get down to whom has their papers stamped., and if their is room.
It may also just depend on how selections go and if there is anyone left late in the draft whom the Saints fancy.

Re: Richo on drafting Saad
If they are keen to re-draft Saad then they should use their last pick in the draft rather than waste a rookie pick on him.
Rookie spots are better used on unknowns, you never know what you might find.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Re: Richo on drafting Saad
He wasn't an automatic selection and won't have played for two years when his ban finishes. I would be amazed if any other club would be interested. We could pick him up as a rookie if we wanted.
Opinions are like arseholes, everybody's got one.
Re: Richo on drafting Saad
If Saad had done his knee at the start of the preseason, would we want to delist him at the end of this year having had a year out? We need to look at it this way I feel

Re: Richo on drafting Saad
I watched some old games when I stayed somewhere with foxtel and we watched a game against carlton from a couple of years ago. Saad looked like a gun. Was one of our best players. It's easy to forget how good he was. Most of his games were along side Milney too who got all the traffic that didn't go to Rooey.
Re: Richo on drafting Saad
You know he'll be 25 in a couple of months, right? I wouldn't call that "still young".lewdogs wrote:Good news. I loved Ahmed, has a lot to offer and still young.

Light watching highlights packages. You can pick one game where Shenton did very well but he maybe delisted. His last season was ordinary and he was dropped at least twice. It looks like we will take him but he should be a rookie. We already have plenty of players that get dropped from time to time.
