Can we conjure one more win this year?!?!
Surely the retirement of the great Lenny Hayes will inspire his teamates to really...and I mean really lift and at least scrounge one more win this year!! It would be emotional to sing that song for Lenny at least one more time....it's been looking bleak and a lack of meaningful milestone matches this year has meant motivation levels havent had that extra ooomf they sometimes need for teams in the doldrums...this could be the tonic i hope!!!!

The first step to winning is to be competitive, and we are not even that at the moment, so it looks bleak. If it takes a champion to retire to get the team winning, then it would mean we have had serious motivational problems this season.

Re: Can we conjure one more win this year?!?!
Any team going throug hwhat we are going through has motivational problems...I don't think it takes a PhD in Physchology to realise how sapping 11 straight wins, most by big margins can be...but history shows that it's hard for cellar dwellar teams to conjure wins...and that milestone games or games where there is extra motivation...ie: showdowns, Carltonvs essendon, anzac day can sometimes throw up results that are against form...so while I agree with you Spert, that first we need to be competitive...i believe Lennys retirement will help the players lift at certain stages...because us humans aint robots and psychology plays a huge role in elite sport!!

Re: Can we conjure one more win this year?!?!
i dont think motivation is the problem ... we are just not good enough ... the WB game could be a chance as they may themselves go into experiment mode and push some of their better players in for early surgerys now that finals long shot is gone .. that said i reckon the Dogs will want to finish off the year strongly so they may want to make a big statement against us ...
in the end Lenny came to the club in a year of under 5 wins and he will leave the club in a year of under 5 wins ...

The club can not let Lenny retire with 16 consecutive losses. They must win at least one of the remaining six. Forget about getting games into blokes just for the hell of it. Throw everything at every game before Lenny retires.

Agree, but should'nt we be throwing everything at every game every week irrespective of retirements.Until AR can motivate them i hold grave doubts on winning.kosifantutti wrote:The club can not let Lenny retire with 16 consecutive losses. its cattle not motivation that is seeing us lose .... trust me the boys are working as hard as they can its just they havent got the skills yet to play to the level of our competitors for extended periods ....

Last game - bring it on and leave nothing out on the oval.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

A final round win to send Lenny off and also end the Crows' finals hopes would be ideal from a personal point of view..
Re: Can we conjure one more win this year?!?!
We are a chance against Gold Coast...we get them after they play Brisbane...Bulldogs are going to finish year strong so don't think we will get them but it would be good to get Lenny a win before he retires

Gold Coast could fold under expectation and pressure. Need to start that game well though, and that is something we haven't been able to do thus far this season. Bulldogs at Docklands is another opportunity.

Be great to have at least one more win this year just so the great man can sing the song one more time.
Best chance to win one would probably be against the Dogs or Tigers you would think. A win against the Dogs would be ideal because it would be his last home game at Etihad.

Re: Can we conjure one more win this year?!?!
Sorry ,but I think motivation and preparation is a big issue, and I don't think it has been addressed very well- talent of course comes into the equation, but doesn't guarantee anything unless it is from a team perspective. Too many of our experienced and semi-experienced players this season have especially not done enough work off the ball, have not put effort into disposal when not under pressure and have not done enough one-percenters and as a result our team stats basically show a lack of getting hands on the ball compared to the opposition during crucial parts of matches.st_Trav_ofWA wrote:i dont think motivation is the problem ... we are just not good enough ... the WB game could be a chance as they may themselves go into experiment mode and push some of their better players in for early surgerys now that finals long shot is gone .. that said i reckon the Dogs will want to finish off the year strongly so they may want to make a big statement against us ...

Lenny has tried his guts out but he needed a few more of his mates to apply themselves a whole lot better.

I guess we could steal one win along the way for Lenny. We'd have to do it when no one is looking.
