I disagree roo has no rules unless you're in the inner sanctum you can't really say for sure....but jeez Dal even I was pulling the hair out watching that one.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

So who else would play in the physical state Riewoldt has been in during the last 2 games?PJ wrote:I disagree roo has no rules unless you're in the inner sanctum you can't really say for sure....but jeez Dal even I was pulling the hair out watching that one.
Knowing when to say no I can't do it, requires more courage than playing and being ineffective because you're injured.

Actually big Gardi did one day.whiskers3614 wrote:Fair enough, but who gives ROO a spray when he deserves one?PJ wrote:If you're talking about the spray Dal got from Roo then it was absolutely deserved. I don't like cricket .. oh no .. I love it
No, one set of rules for him and another for the mere mortals.
Why play when your body does not allow you to perform to the required level?
Against brissy.
Was roos first game back I think after torn hammy, carried on like anything when sent to the bench.
He gave the runner a mouthful and kept going at the bench.
Gardi told him to shoosh...and he did.

Loved Gardiner, he was as much responsible for our improvement in 2009 and 2010 as anybody on the list or the coaches box.
If only his body had held together a little bit longer. And if he gave Roo a spray I'm sure it was well deserved.

Re: I don't love Riewoldt.
He is a great player and one of the best ever SAINTS - but I have to say at times he carries on like a petulant spoilt child. Perhaps if he didn't miss goals from 25 out straight in front he would have be justified by the delivery - but until then he needs to keep his emotions intact !
SAINTS another day older another day closer to the Holy Grail!

Re: I don't love Riewoldt.
Interesting that nearly 12 months on, under a different coach, and we're having the same discussion.
A comment earlier is very poignant if you ask me:
"I agree - no problem with the captain giving a spray when warranted. HOWEVER last night I was really disappointed with Roo. I was at the game and watched him closely. The sprays didn't appear to be coming because of players not adhering to team rules, selfishness, or chastisement due to lack of effort. They were coming because he wasn't getting the ball delivered to him to his liking"

Any other player who can kick 3 goals and work his arse off in a side that gets flogged can also give whoever they like a spray.

legend of the club and the game but we've really got to find a key forward this coming draft and probably give the captaincy to someone else like Geary, Armo or even Lenny if he plays on

I can understand the first 2 even though I dont think it will happen but why would Lenny be captain over Rooy next season?

Re: I don't love Riewoldt.
We played our best quarter in the second when Roo was further up the ground and the players had to actually kick a goal themselves or pass to someone other than roo.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Dont think that is right at all. Rooy started on the wing and we got smashed in the first half of that quarter. He then went back into the forward line and we had a great second half to the quarter.

That is correct. Although I thought thstructure looked a whole lot better with Roo in the middle.

AFAIAC he can spray whoever he likes. He is our only effective key forward (although it was good to see Reese kick a couple for a change) It must be totally deflating to make multiple leads, finally get clear of two opponents only to have the pill kicked 5 meters over your head/to your left/to your right/into the arms of an opponent; usually from a guy in the clear who only has to execute a simple kick. That happened multiple times last week (and has all season); our ball delivery skills are horrible, and clearly not up to AFL standard.
I'd give them a spray too.

I thought he said last season that he wanted to give the captaincy to someone else if they wanted, just throwing his name up since he's a senior player but probably wont be around next season thoplugger66 wrote:sainters85 wrote:legend of the club and the game but we've really got to find a key forward this coming draft and probably give the captaincy to someone else like Geary, Armo or even Lenny if he plays on

Re: I don't love Riewoldt.
One of our best players of all time, and a great athlete, though couldn't get it together in the GFs when we needed those special games from him. I don't at all like his spraying of other players and a good captain or a champion just doesn't do that, if you want to blast your team-mate, do it away from others and not in public. As a coach, I would have told him pretty bluntly what I think about that.
Right now it almost seems pointless playing him as he is running himself into the ground in an embarrassingly bad team for no reward. AR should send Roo off for a week's holiday and try another forward line setup- definitely won't make the slightest difference and we most likely will kick more goals from the forward line as a whole.
