Re: Time to Play White
Yes, he should get a couple of games this year. Against Gold Coast at Metricom, or the Bulldogs at Etihad would be the "softest" introductions for him.
Not appropriate against North or Fremantle.

Re: Time to Play White
He has certainly turned things around the last two weeks and did some good things yesterday.saintspremiers wrote:They could give him a game but he'd get found out badly lacking the body strength and mental toughness needed for AFL.
Could one game set him back or motivate him to improve over the preseason? I fear the former.
He's not early twenties and in theory ready like Lee or TDL.
I get the impression he is the sort of guy who could do better at AFL than VFL.
I think his turn-around should be rewarded with a couple of games at Docklands.
Agree he is not properly ready for AFL.
But a couple of games even if he finds the going tough would be good for his education and make him realise what he has to work on over the summer.

Re: Time to Play White
We should also play Holmes, Markworth, the kid from NZ, and Tommy Walsh.
I mean really, how desperate are some of you.
Talk about panic.
White is a million miles away from earning a game even in the worst team in the AFL.
Gifting games to underperforming, underachieving kids nowhere near ready is suicide.
Would rather we lose more games than do this blind panic move.

Is Bruce any chance of playing forward?
Saw in the Sandy report that he kicked 2.4 playing forward and took some marks.
If he won't play forward in the seniors, why on earth is he playing there for sandy.

The StKilda coach disagrees with your opinion Bunk, i think the coach has more say on who plays and when.Bunk_Moreland wrote:We should also play Holmes, Markworth, the kid from NZ, and Tommy Walsh.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?
Re: Time to Play White
Played junior footy forward and a bit forward for GWS. He's a swingman and could easily be developed as a forward for us if we are that way inclined. Kicking for goal the only issue.saintjake wrote:Is Bruce any chance of playing forward?

Accelerate the learning rather than decimate the confidence...it's an education and can be handled as such. Play him. One can just as easily argue against gifting games to players who won't be around next year.
Re: Time to Play White
Possibly the best forward to ever play for the club has had that issue his whole careerOld Mate wrote:Played junior footy forward and a bit forward for GWS. Even when ur on top u need to get some games in a few kids.
When ur on the bottom u still need to play some old blokes. Granted.
But what is the balance? To me Gwilt ahead of Bruce makes no sense at all.
Josh Bruce is 22yo. He is not a kid. He needs 50 games under his belt.
WTF is he doing at Sandy while Gwilt is running around in the seniors?
Makes no sense at all. 22yo!

If Tommy Walsh plays for StKilda we'll be in BIG strife.Bunk_Moreland wrote:We should also play Holmes, Markworth, the kid from NZ, and Tommy Walsh.

So the coach has said White is a cert for an AFL game?bobmurray wrote:The StKilda coach disagrees with your opinion Bunk, i think the coach has more say on who plays and when.Bunk_Moreland wrote:We should also play Holmes, Markworth, the kid from NZ, and Tommy Walsh.

Jeez it must be desperate downSeaford way then.
If he gets a game I hope he kills it. I bet he will get bagged out if he doesn't get a bag. After all I keep hearing he is the new Buddy

SaintWodonga wrote:White showed a bit yesterday, although not best on ground, I feel it's time to bring him in and see what he's got. Why not play Bruce upforward as well? We are not taking marks in the forward 50 (also due to poor delivery), so it could not hurt to develop them, it's not like we are doing well. A bit of White X factor may just give us a little sparkle of hope.
No. Not ready. Needs to work harder on all aspects of his game.

Every AFL player was once a debutant. A taste of it won't do him any harm and no-one's expecting a lot at this stage.Bunk_Moreland wrote:If he gets a game I hope he kills it. I bet he will get bagged out if he doesn't get a bag. After all I keep hearing he is the new Buddy
Re: Time to Play White
If one were to base the selection on yesterday's game, Josh Bruce would be a mile in front of Spencer White to get a gig up forward for the Saints.

Ferguson was unlucky enough to debut as a defender on a guy who kicked four on him in the first quarter.Bunk_Moreland wrote:Jackson Fergusonbigcarl wrote:Every AFL player was once a debutant. White presumably would line up on the half forward line or forward pocket and if he doesn't get a kick he lives to fight another day.
Re: Time to Play White
if the coach says he will play this year...he will play this year...i'm looking forward to seeing him debut.....

Re: Time to Play White
His time will come.
For the moment I'm just glad he played and that he showed a bit considering he was supposed to miss 1 - 2 games with an injury incurred the previous week. At whatever level he plays, White just needs to get some continuity into his development given the various injury problems he's had over the last 24 months.

Re: Time to Play White
If you watched the sandy game on sat it is obvious white needs a go in the ones. He is dangerous and looks dangerous. He might not be 100% ready but even if he shows a couple of flashes it will give us hope. At the moment TDL and Milera not doing it for me .....play white against Freo....if I have to watch a Bunch of rubbish second rate drones run around for stkilda agin and lose by 15 goals I might just buy a Melb Victory membership next season.....seriously Trent Dennis Lane WTF.....players of his ilk just make me sad.
