Markworth out for 9-10 Weeks
Daniel Markworth will miss next 9-10 weeks with hamstring injury he sustained in Sandringham's loss to Williamstown on Sunday.
Re: Markworth out for 9-10 Weeks
Wow. That's a big hamstring, must have come almost off the bone.stkildathunda wrote:Daniel Markworth will miss next 9-10 weeks with hamstring injury he sustained in Sandringham's loss to Williamstown on Sunday.
Let's hope he gets right so he can smash out a good pre-season. Next year is surely his last chance to show something?

From memory he was given a 12 month extension when he did his knee in Colorado, so that would make him out of contract at the end of the season. I don't know about any other extensions he might have been given.FQF wrote:What's his contract situation?

Yeah, he doesn't have one for next year yet.busso mick wrote:From memory he was given a 12 month extension when he did his knee in Colorado, so that would make him out of contract at the end of the season. I hope they persevere with him… plenty of room on the list IMO.

Geelong have perservered with Menzel after multiple setbacks, same with Fremantle and Morabito. He hasn't played a game for us yet, but I hope we retain the young fella. Our motto is FQF after all.dragit wrote:Yeah, he doesn't have one for next year yet.busso mick wrote:From memory he was given a 12 month extension when he did his knee in Colorado, so that would make him out of contract at the end of the season. Re: Markworth out for 9-10 Weeks
Think he warrants another season and i'm pretty sure the club would have pencilied him in for 2015, hopefully the soft tissue injury doesn't cloud that thinking, He'd be on pretty minimal coin and like it's been said elsewhere in this thread, we have spots for talented youngsters at the moment...we've got an oversupply of older list cloggers that i'd cut first IMO.

Really that would be the only reason to keep hom. No games in 3 years no matter what has happened to him makes him hard to keep. He will though because we have others that are older who will go before him. I could understand the club if they didnt give him a contract or rookied him.
Re: Markworth out for 9-10 Weeks
I've never seen him play live, and only little bits and pieces of footage from Sandy.
I remember last year he was being hailed our most talented young player, but his form this year, playing injury free, hasn't set the world on fire, and he didn't earn himself a debut. I'd be interested to hear whether closer Sandy watchers think he is worth the wait.

Boo.
Has oodles of talent, but above all that, seems a serious level headed kid.

Re: Markworth out for 9-10 Weeks
That's bad news for him. As others have said, we will have plenty of room on the list next year and his salary will be minimal.
If he has solid potential, then there is not a lot of downside to keep him on. Best wishes Daniel.

That's shattering news for the kid. Hopefully the club offers him another contract - so tough now for him though as his confidence in his body must be shot to bits.

Re: Markworth out for 9-10 Weeks
When they repair ACLs they usually use a tendon from the hammy. Any correlation here?
In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Re: Markworth out for 9-10 Weeks
Think you missed the intent of the question plugs. Clearly it's a different injury (they made a point of that for some strange reason)
I think the question was whether the technique used in the operation been a causal factor to this new injury..?

Re: Markworth out for 9-10 Weeks
As plugger didn't properly answer your question. In Markworths case, they repaired his ACL by using a patella tendon graft not the hamstring. So there is no correlation between the two injuries.magnifisaint wrote:When they repair ACLs they usually use a tendon from the hammy. Any correlation here?
As for Marky getting another contract, I have watched almost all of the vfl games this year and the boy can really play. We need his pace and run. He will be ready for the full pre-season and he is only young, he must be retained

Re: Markworth out for 9-10 Weeks
Agreed, what I have seen of him the kid has talent to spare and good pace. It's not like we have pacey young talent to spare, so can see no harm in keeping him one more year. If his body can't get through the next pre-season and next year, then it will be time up you would think.BringBackMadDog wrote:As plugger didn't properly answer your question.
