Two players previously on our list.

I saw Hutchings play a solid game for Sandy at Victoria Park a few years back (it was the same game Armo re-injured his knee) and I thought he looked a good unit. But naturally under Lyon there was no room, time or inclination for development.

Hope he doesn't look too good today, but best of luck to him.

Cripps on the other hand can go sniff my slippers.

I do think Hutchins looked like a good and natural footballer but we seemed to go more with Winmar (taken at the same time) who, IMHO, never looked up to it.

I don't know much about Cripps though.

hutchins is a bloody good footballer........the poster who last week stated that both he and cripps were duds knows as much about the potential in young footballers as that ass lyin........that is.... zero......zilch...

disgraceful that we let a state under 18 captain go without even giving him one ga,e......shame st kilda...shame...he was always going to come back and bit us on the arse...something loris pointed out years ago....

not all that impressed with cripps.....we picked him in preference to darling didn't we????

Hutchings was very effective today - Cripps not so much, but at least he has shown something for them this year. I thought Hutchings in his role was one of the match winners for them when it counted.

And Cripps has had several games this year where he has kicked important 'clutch' goals when they have needed him to. I am a little aggrieved at the club for letting him go so cheaply, especially as they played hardball for Mitch Brown. We now struggle to kick ten goals a match, struggle for midfield goalkickers, and we let him go...I know that rhe clubs had a gentleman's agreement to settle the account later, but I doubt whether a club as arrogant as they are will keep to that agreement. Inept trading in my opinion.

He is injured. But is a best 22 player for them when fit and would be incredibly handy in our fwdline right about now.

Yeah it was all Lyon's fault.

He must be responsible for Cahill, Heyne, Winmar, Walsh, Archer and the lack of development in Siposs, Stanley three years on.

Why do these threads come on after the fact and lay blame where it shouldn't. Didn't see one when he was delisted, nor during his time in the WAFL, nor when rookies originally at WC that was so certain on whose fault.

So certain after the fact. Can't be because he went back, worked on his game, improved and matured. Impossible.

He must be responsible for Cahill, Heyne, Winmar, Walsh, Archer and the lack of development in Siposs, Stanley three years on.

I am having trouble understanding your point. I thought this discussion was about Hutchings and Cripps. So, I don't see where, Cahill, Heyne etc fit in.
Regards Hutchings, maturing, improving and working on his game. Isn't that what clubs should do with their development programs?
I am of the firm believe Hutchings would now be getting a regular game for St Kilda. I am sorry if that upsets you but I think that's right and I am sorry that we delisted him. I would rather he was playing for the Saints than the West Coast.

Did he get delisted because he wanted to go home or just wasn't good enough. From what I remember wasn't he the WA's U/18 champ captain? So obviously he had some qualities.

He had both hips operated on at the end of his first season so there was doubt about him being able to come back as an AFL player.

I don't know if that's right. He definitely had that operation but the reason I believe he was delisted was he was assessed as too slow. He played the next year in the WAFL. Has not missed one game through that injury. If what you say is correct, then the medical team did not make the right call.

Yes he played in the WAFL but because both hips were done there were doubts when he would be back early enough in the year. He was also considered a bit slow as you say but I think he would have got another year if he didnt have the operation.

I would debate that. He is not along penetrating kick. His short and medium kick is fine. I believe he would be in St Kilda's best 22. And because he has a strong body he would help with our midfield rotations. This would help Steven who is suffering because our older players, Hayes and Montanga are not being tagged any more. Teams are targeting Steven and Ross, Duncan are kids and can't be expected to help Jack out as they are just starting their careers.

I'm not saying he wouldn't be handy in our current predicament but he wouldn't last the journey. You'll probably get a couple of serviceable years out of him.

I still would personally consider him a bad kick though & it wouldn't be helping us out a great deal.

It's kind of a moot point anyway because it's not like he was drafted the minute he was let go by us. He had to go back to the WAFL for 2 more seasons, then eventually get drafted late to get his second chance.

I beleive i read himself saying he knew he hadn't worked hard enough - and it was only being delisted and returnng to WA that he realised he really did want it.

i was critical ..so was loris.......that creep lyin wouldn't have given banger a game...i lay the blame squarely where it belongs...fine by me if you don't agree...

The only time I really noticed Cripps was when he was all on his own near the interchange and dropped a mark even Milera would have taken.
Then he recovered picked up the ball and under no pressure kicked it out on the full.

He's no loss to our list.
