Of course we can! PA are a good examples of how to do it...make your picks count for 6 years. I think everyone will agree we have done ok over the past 3 years...lets trust the guys to do well for another 3!

Re: Can & when will St Kilda win a premiership?
In the mid-80s I was insensitive enough to declare to my young son that I didn't think we would ever win another Premiership. Had him in tears.
We've played in 3 Grand Finals since then and could have won any of them. Two of those GFs were under a system which, as others have correctly said, puts us at a huge disadvantage.
I will stop believing if and only if we go out of business.

Re: Can & when will St Kilda win a premiership?
The aim is to be a good top four team again which will give us a shot at the flag.
PA have done it so there's no reason why we can't. We will just have to go through a bit of pain for the next 2 or 3 years before it happens.
It's obviously not going to be easy but we are a chance as long as they keep the salary cap and draft intact.
My concern is that the AFL will tinker with the rules as they will want to see a return on their $250 Million expansion team investment which will obviously not be good for us.

I have faith in the recruiters and the management we have at the moment that we will deliver a flag in the next 7 years.
Also i dont believe in the hype of the new teams dominating the competition around the time we are challenging, they still have a lot of hard work to do and they will need a lot of luck to make it happen for them also.
We have a strategy to achieve our 2nd flag and i am a believer. And it will be soooooooo sweet.

I think the club is planning to win one in 2066, i won't see it, unfortunately.

Theoretically a one in 18 chance. Realistically in an uneven comp, with different rules for clubs and free agency likely to favour the big clubs and the struggling clubs with space in the salary cap (meaning when we're a contender we won't be attracting free agents), I reckon we're a one in 50 shot (1 in 100 over the next few years). Which doesn't mean much in trying to predict our next flag - maybe in 5 years, maybe two hundred? I'm not holding my breath waiting. Que sera.

Re: Can & when will St Kilda win a premiership?
IF and WHEN the stadium deal gives us an equal financial footing is when i think we will start competing. ATM its not so much the list or coaches - as the draft can give you the players and you can find the coaches. But its the finances that assist with developing - Collingwood, Hawthorn, Adelaide, Geelong, Freo...are all big money clubs and have all been there or there abouts since we last competed.THATS THE KEY

Re: Can & when will St Kilda win a premiership?
Well going backwards in time won't help.
The mongoloid Patrick Fitzmichael apparently has been beavering away on behalf of his old club.
He wants the official premiership count to go back to the start of the VFA in 1870.
Conveniently that will give Caaaarlton another 6 flags and outright leadership.
But it won't help us.
No cheap flags we can reclaim.
(Unless they redefine the immoral challenge system and rightfully give us the 1913 Flag).
So we have to look forward.
Agree that longer term when the AFL owns Jihad will improve our opportunities.
But it seems we are going to do everything by the blueprint in our current rebuilding phase.
Suffer some pain for the next couple of years but emerge with a team that will peak together and have a genuine chance of success.
So I agree with the 20-20 Vision.

The comp is artificially manipulated, any talk of equalization and level playing field is simply a smokescreen, to fool the public into handing over more hard earned dollars.
Look at supermarkets, Coles and Woolies are the big players who jealously guard their duopoly.
Forcing farmers to accept extremely low prices, while making massive profits.
The rich just keep making money, attracting corporate $, while Saints and Bulldogs get lower and lower attendances, discouraging any companies from investing.

Is that the reason the closest we have ever been apart from 1966 is in the last few years? I could understand the theory if we were worse now than ever but our last 10 years bar the last 2 have been the equal or better than ever in our history.

Re: Can & when will St Kilda win a premiership?
The AFL is simply a very large corporation.
Divisions, in this case, teams, that bring in the most revenue, get better treatment than the ones that aren't doing so well.
I imagine their marketing execs have MBAs and other degrees, which teach them to be objective and unemotional. Have you heard the AFL being referred to as a "product"?
Like Big Macs, or Chiko Rolls.
These bearded yuppie hipsters won't understand a emotional attachment, apart from their attachment to their blue Mini Cooper or cute little Alfa Romeo.
St Kilda and the Bulldogs will find it tough to get a blockbuster game, unless you can call the NZ foray a blockbuster.
