Re: Morabito
In a heartbeat with a 3rd round pick. It is a high risk(big chance he will get injured and never make it) / high return( if he can stay free of injury he will be a star ) strategy exactly as it is with any third rounder. Except then the reason they won't make it is usually talent or flaws in their game as opposed to purely injury.

Jessie Smith was a star. If his ankle had held up, then I'd reckon his inclusion into those sides would have done the trick for us.
Patrick Smith used him as his example of a star that never got to play due to injury. Said he was outstanding talent wise. Saints had several of those over the years.
Re: Morabito
He had 28 possies and kicked three goals a few weeks ago, yesterday was BOG with 29 and two goals. Yet, Rossy Lyon wanted to play Sylvia in front of him, remind anyone of anything? He will probably play this week, but we should get in his ear, pending a medical of course.
If not, I noticed Crozier is running around in the magoos with Morabito - he would be a handy addition for the right price (draft-wise). On talent alone, these two would have it over 3/4s of our list.

Think this is another great footy myth. Yep some players from other clubs can certainly make it when they are traded but just because players cant get a go in a side because the side is very good doesnt mean they will be good for us. Savage hasnt set the world on fire and neither has TDL. Both were emergencies in 2 GF winning sides. Gamble was another people said should make it and only wasnt getting a game because of the strength of Geelong. I reckon after one game you could see why he didnt get a game at Geelong. As I said you can get players that can make it and im sure there are 100's of examples but you need to recruit the right type of player especially when you are a bottom side. Outside runners sometimes dont do the trick because they cant win their own ball.

Re: Morabito
We should ramp up the "very best of the WAFL" experience…
TDL, Maister, Lee
Throw some big coin at Morabito, Crozier, Michie, Tarbener…
Patch things up with Ledger, Cripps, Winmar & Hutchings.
Sound out Watters for a development role.

Taken out of context a little though. I don't want them because they can't get a game - I want them because Ross Lyon doesn't play kids and they may well come cheap and in my opinion - are well and truly better than 3/4 of our list.plugger66 wrote:St Ick wrote:He had 28 possies and kicked three goals a few weeks ago, yesterday was BOG with 29 and two goals. I'm still not convinced that Savage is a bust, it's far too early to make that call and he also had an injury interrupted pre season. Remember how avg Daisy looked at his new club early on and he is a lot more established compared to Sav.
TDL, well, he was a major mistake and we can thank our old coach for that.
I'm not saying let's go crazy and recruit mature aged duds because I've never been a fan of a GOP, but when 20-22 year old first round draft picks, like Shiel, Morabito, Crozier etc can potentially be recruited to our club I stand up and take notice.
Re Morabito, not exactly the same, but Polec is an example of what can happen when a former injury riddled pick 4 is traded only a few years after drafting. I know for every success there are a number of failures, but let's try to look at this as glass half full.
As for the outside runners argument, well, that's what we are after isn't it? Considering our midfield seems very inside and slow?

Re: Morabito
You can see it a mile out Ross is just waiting for right time lots of chances
they are just building a squad for run home due to not having Walters who is a big out.
Think the names like Clurey Orourke Jaksch Sheil who are young talented guys seeking more opportunities or coming home are the ones that will targeted.

Yep of course we are after outside runners. We need many of them but there are obviously ones that work and ones that dont. Dont understand the AFL game enough to see who work and who doesnt and why. Thats what our recruiters hopefully do even though I am wondering about that. I have no idea why we would be able to get Morabito anyway. Surely he is loyal to Freo and they have certainly been loyal to him. No idea how Crozier even plays but hopefully better than most of our last few from WA.
Re: Morabito
Its unlikely, but if he has called off contract talks, that could mean one of two things - either he is waiting to play some games to build up his currency or he is pissed with Rossy because he hasnt been playing.
As for Crozier, he is a Vic boy who took that crazy good mark in under 18s. He is a small/med fwd type who is building his game to become a mid - similar to Billings. Not sure if he even wants to move, just throwing a name up there who has the potential to be a very good footballer - plus, because of what Lyon did to our list/kids, part of me wants to get one back by getting a couple of disgruntled potential guns

I was only suggesting that it is extremely unlikely anyone will get fyfe and Hill. Wouldn't think Mundy would be much good to us either.

TDL, Maister & Lee all had really good years playing forward in the WAFL didn't they?
60 odd goal seasons each from memory?
Garlett is another for the list.

Re: Morabito
Yes from me using the PSD or our 4th round pick if we have our eyes on someone else in the PSD.
I'm hoping we would have already drafted another 4 in the Top 40 by the time our 4th round pick comes around.

Re: Morabito
How old is Morribito? 23,22? I think he suits our 'age' bracket to be honest, we're in need of good young players. I think he's worth the punt, maybe a 3rd round.
TBH, all the Saints need to do is guarantee his a regular gig/opportunity, since we're on the rebuild side he should be fine. We wouldn't have to give anything if he just did a L.Ball "I'm not playing for anyone but xyx".
