Morabito
Number 4 draft pick in 09 - disgruntled, perhaps falling prey to Lyon's harsh approach ala Ball? Refusing to enter into contract discussions.
Had a horrid run with injuries, but been playing in the WAFL all season.

Worth a punt?

Re: Morabito
At absolute most there might be a bidding war between clubs with later picks and steak knives as weaponry. If we could get him for donuts I'd take him,\; hard to see any clubs absolutely jumping at him unfortunately - obviously incredibly talented and the victim of a lot of bad luck.

Re: Morabito
I think he would be worth a punt. Great young bloke and has a great attitude. Has always wanted to play AFL. Could be anything if his knees hold up.

Re: Morabito
For a third or fourth round draft pick I wouldn't hesitate.
For a second round draft pick I'd want a sweetener added in.

Re: Morabito
This guy could have been absolutely anything.
Was picked ahead of Fyfe back when the Freo recruiters clearly knew what they were on about.
Injuries aside you would take him in 2 seconds.
I assume he is putting off contract talks until he is in a better bargaining position.
Hasnt played a game in 3 years.
But dont worry. He can play.
Obviously the knees are a big risk - but boy can he play. If he wasnt a gun hed already be gone.
Hard to imagine Freo would stick fat with him for 3 years and then let him go after all that.

On pure ability, a big yes! Unfortunately, he's one knee injury from the end of his career. Too great a risk, IMHO.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Re: Morabito
He LARS the last one. But anyway he's a very good player when he's not injured. Looked a million bucks but could be a Jesse Smith. Yes for a PSD pick but that about all you want to pay just in case.

Re: Morabito
I'm all for it. If it doesn't work out we can can concentrate on Troy Menzel or try talking Jesse Smith out of retirement.

Re: Morabito
3 knees, if true, would prove too risky IMHO.
As one guy said, one more twist of the knee could finish the poor fella.
Can't really afford to take the risk.
Sure, he was picked ahead of Fyfe, but that was a subjective decision by recruiters.
An informed guess that he was better than Fyfe.

Early on he looked an absolute gun in the making. He was a real shame because talent wise he's got it. he looked miles better than Fyfe early on. I wonder if Lars actually makes the knee stronger long term. It doesn't seem to stop Malceski.

Re: Morabito
He's played half a season of senior footy and the knee has held up...
If the price is right, I definitely reckon we should have a go. Even if that means he avoids any competitive footy till half way through season 2015, just to let it settle and strengthen some more. And think how hungry that's make him. And, unfortunately, we have the time...
A low risk/high reward investment for all the Capitalists out there in Saintsationalist land.
PS: Re Jesse Smith, ok didn't work, but was really worth the punt IMHO. If he'd held up we'd have at least two more flags by now.
Besides, what did he cost us? Pick 50-odd back in the daze when our talent identification was clearly pretty crap anyway.

Re: Morabito
4th round pick #56. Nothing more.
Just means we upgrade Freo's 4th round pick from say 73 to 56.
Last year Gumbleton was traded from Essendon to Freo for pick # 55.
Amazingly similar circumstances really. Although Gumbleton had 30 odd afl games and 35 goals under his belt.
The difference for us to actually land him would be offering some more $$$ and say a 2 year contract.
Gotta put something on the line if we want the potential upside.
Unless our recruiters think there is a better option at pick #56 in the draft then its worth the punt I reckon.

Maybe Bro, but remembering how painfully close we came in 2009/2010...8856brother wrote:One of the biggest calls of all time Macca.Dave McNamara wrote: PS: Re Jesse Smith, ok didn't work, but was really worth the punt IMHO. If he'd held up we'd have at least two more flags by now. :
Remembering 'how bad' our infamous bottom six were meant to be...
Jessie Smith was a star. If his ankle had held up, then I'd reckon his inclusion into those sides would have done the trick for us.
