I'm confused. We have Pelican which means the Hawks model. Is the Port model the Hawks version 2?

And how is Ports model any different from

Geel 1999-2001
Stk 2001-2003
Hawthorn 2001-2004
Collingwood 2005-2007

You just recruit talent in

Trade for deficiencies

Use Rookie draft wisely (Sydney)

Develop players and give them opportunities to improve

Then CONTINUE this WHOLE PROCESS when the side is a contender

NEVER STOP evolving.

BTW
I hate it when I hear we are copying another club... The comp and game evolves and if you are trying to emulate... You are a step behind. As those you are emulating, are already making improvements.

This is why Alistair Clarkson is the best IMO
Whilst being at the top... Look at the way he evolves his players, strategies, list to be different from one year to the next.
He is the leader ATM with everyone else chasing.

I agree with most of what you say BM.

I just reckon you have to appease the masses and tell them we are copying a successful formula. Whether we actually do that or not, nobody will ever know.

True. I think its Richo's way of spelling out explicitly to the restless Saints supporters getting sick of these big losses the direction we are going and trying to back it up by getting some credibility from Ports success this year - I was part that so hang in there dudes - its painful for a few years and we are in pieces but when you slowly and carefully assemble the correct jigsaw pieces and don't take short cuts, it can come together gloriously. Hawthorn actually said we were a model for them of keeping their high draft picks and putting up with being bottom while they loaded up on talent.

Big losses are natural now that we've bottomed out...

What I didn't like was the strategy in the last game, it was very poor coaching IMO .... To allow a spare to dictate... To have an ineffective spare?

I also don't like giving the players, supporters an excuse to be beaten... Before the game.

It's an unusual game with no guarantees .... I don't want to hear we are going to lose (I can acct that) but I want to hear that we are endeavouring to win at all costs.

It seems the players have a message of it's ok to be lose... Which sometimes registers as it's ok to be hopeless because you expect us to lose.

I reckon both Geelong and the hawks are heading for a big fall in the not too distant future...it'll happen, maybe not quite as bad as ours but its inevitable...great core's just don't get replaced, the lack of top end talent drafted into both those teams in the last 5 years means there heading for a slide! A clarkson won't be the messiah when this happens nor will C Scott. Geez it'll be sweet when all those hawkers and cats get off their high horse about having systems that don't have ups and downs, just constant success...

What trollop. Cats won 3 flags Hawks 2 in their recent epocs.

That is where your argument ends.

Both hawks and Cats have many players in the 30+ age bracket who make up much of their core talent, more so the Hawks. I agree, Saint wagga, their turn will come.

Pelchen worked at Port before he worked at Hawks

All still depends on whats available

According to the mensa member Dwayne Russell....you get good players and a good coach and a good game plan and you develop them in to good players.

Mmm...

Geelong won the VFL grand final stand alone in 2003, 2007 and 2013

They have a lot of Core aged or younger talent.... Selwood, Hawkins, Duncan, Horlin Smith, Bicvas, Christiansen, Kersten, .... List goes on and on...

They've almost fully replaced 2007 without dropping
Ottens, Corey, Ling, Millburn, Chapman, Harley, Scarlett, Ablett, Ablett, King, Mooney, Rooke..... That is around a dozen that have moved on
