Re: Most valuable commodities
Not sure, but clubs are always looking for good young ruckmen so I reckon Longer and Hickey would be moving towards the top of the list, even though neither is proven yet.
Re: Most valuable commodities
Not by a long shot are Hickey and Longer proven?
Jack Billings is easily our most valuable player, in terms of trade.
Jack Steven is our best young player ..... But that's an indication of us.
We have little to offer, and the only ones we can offer are required.

Whilst you maybe right about Billings being more valuable than Jack its something I dont get. Jack based on last years form would be as good as any number one pick since Murphy. people say i wouldnt trade a number one pick for that player or this player sometimes overate that pick i reckon. Billings will have to become an very good player to reach jacks standard. And Jack is only 24. he may have 8 more seasons in him. If someone said you could have Fyffe for pick one next season i would take it in a heartbeat. probably take a player like sloane for pick one.

Re: Most valuable commodities
Steven would be the most valuable on the market then perhaps Montagna, Armo, Hickey, Dunstan then Billings. The guys with know quality will always attract high interest. Billings is a promising small forward with good skills right now. 12 months can change everything though.
Re: Most valuable commodities
Jack wasn't even close to AA... But our best player for the season (different to our best player)... Again says more about us.
He still has a question over his decision making and ball use... He does win the footy very well. Is he defensive? does he get tagged? Is he highly skilled?
From 2007 onwards in his draft year...
Is he as good as..... (I'll only compare mids for fairness)... He is measured against
Cotchin, Dangerfieild, Rioli, Ward, S.Hill, Rich, Shuey, Zaharakis, Redden, Beams, Hannebury, Sloane, Rockliff, Jetta, Fyfe, Bastinac, Barlow, Swallow, Bennell, Gaff, Polec, Conca, Heppell, Prestia, Smedts, Atley, Parker, Liberatore, Dalhuis, Cognilio, Tyson, Wingaurd, Smith, Kerridge, B.Hill, Whitfield, Wines, Vlaustin, Kelly, Billings, Aish, Bontempelli, Dunstan, Salem, Treloar, Greene
Most of those guys
Already Rising Stars.... Already indicated they are serious players... A Grade to Elite ability
Where would he rank with them?
Definitely sits amongst them... But would only be midrange in the group IMO
Plenty not mentioned either... As are still very ump

Im not trying to start a fight but you make it very hard with incorrect sweeping comments and then mentioning things that have little to do with what I said. Firstly i respected what you said by saying you maybe right but then I get this stuff.
Can you please answer these questions. How do you know jack wasnt close to AA. He may have been the 40th player or the 23rd. Seems very close to me.
As for players you have mentioned based on last years form he is better than most you have mentioned. jack was also a rising star as was Siposs.
Anyway what you have said has little to do with what i said. Is he equal or better than any number one pick since Murphy? I notice every player you mentioned wasnt a number one pick.

Re: Most valuable commodities
Reckon Stanley is worth more that Joey on the open market. He has the potential to ba a superstar with a good team around him. Joey's close to the end of his career.

I would totally disagree at the moment. Joey would be a 20 to 30 pick. If Stanley was delisted i doubt he would get picked up.

Re: Most valuable commodities
I think that Stanley best chance of making it is as a ruck man. Got a good leap, good link player, played his best games in the ruck, but considering how much they have invested in Longer and Hickey, Rhys will never be more than a part time ruck men at St Kildaplugger66 wrote:Toy Saint wrote:Reckon Stanley is worth more that Joey on the open market. Can you PLEASE identify a club that thinks that so we can roll out the red carpet and waiter service for them during trade week.Toy Saint wrote:Reckon Stanley is worth more that Joey on the open market. To say he was not even close shows your football knowledge...He made the squad of 40 ..????BigMart wrote:Jack wasn't even close to AA... But our best player for the season (different to our best player)... Again says more about us.

Ok, and this is based on career to date c/f potential improvement.
Dangerfield, Cotchin, Fyfe, Rioli, Beams, our Jack/Sloane/Hannebury... the rest, either simply too early in their careers or simply not rated in this company.
Going forward... our Jack to leave Hannebury behind, and pass Rioli (dodgy hammies, probably won't have a long career) and Beams, and be very close/maybe on a par with Dangerfield, Cotchin and Fyfe.

Re: Most valuable commodities
I really rate Jack's ball winning
Don't rate his skill level as highly or his decision making. I would have most of the players on that list as better skilled than Jack. Including Billings.
Jack is a good player... Not elite.
He is turning 24

Re: Most valuable commodities
Disagree...I think he is elite, although not in peak form.BigMart wrote:Jack is a good player... Not elite.
Apart from not being 100% fit, he is also is struggling with the extra attention, from not having Dal Santo around to take some heat. Even elite players (excl GAJ) need to get used to being tagged.
Also when your team is struggling and there is a lack of confidence all around you, it is hard to dominate.
Put him in a Hawthorn jumper and he would be unstoppable

Re: Most valuable commodities
This is a guy who can slot goals sideways on the boundary line under pressure and does most of his work in close at top speed. I doubt you would find any recruiter who wouldn't rate Steven as if not elite an A grade player. His stocks may have fallen after this injury plagued start to the season but even not getting AA was probably more to do with the fact it was his break out year. They don't often give you AA in a break out year second year is more likely.BigMart wrote:I really rate Jack's ball winning

Re: Most valuable commodities
Elite players use the ball better and make better decisions
I'll agree he is an ELITE ball winner
Only Ablett, Kennedy, Watson, Liberatore are probably better ATM
Not an elite footballer
Last weekend he received the footy uncontested, was running around the boundary, missed a 20m target and put it OOF?! He misses short targets far too often to be considered in the top bracket.
When he doesn't run around in circles with the give and go 1-2 and runs fwd over lines and kicks long... He is fantastic.

No wonder people have a go at you well sorry i shouldnt speak for others, no wonder I have a go at you. You rated him a good player. he was very close to AA last year in a position that most of the comp play in. it isnt FB or FF its on the ball where 60% of players play. That is over 400 players and he was rated in the top 10 of those players. That makes him much better than a good player IMO but to be fair can you tell us who are other good players at our club so I can get an idea of what you call a good player.
Re: Most valuable commodities
Good players
My rating of the current (as of 2014 R8)
Riewoldt
Montagna
Dempster
Steven
Hayes
Armitage
Schnieder
I would consider Steven a Very Good player.... My assessment of him can change as he develops you know?
He wasn't a B&F winner when I called him a (average I think) player. At the time he was a frustrating player, who won a lot of the footy, gave a lot of drive and turned it over a lot?
Why do you believe Dal and Joey to be tagged instead of him? Just because he is getting the most footy, doesn't make him the best player. If roles were reversed, and Dal was allowed to run around unchecked and Jack was tagged heavily would the B&F results been the same.
He was tagged vs Carlton, well beaten. It's the first time I've noticed the opposition sit on him.
If I were coaching against StK I would tag Joey. I rate Joey more damaging. He was a good player in a good side
Btw
Many of those players at least 250 are more often in the seconds ..... Another 200 or so are just ordinary fringe AFL players or perhaps developing
To be a good AFL player is nothing to be sneezed at
