Whatever happened to deliberate rushed behind?

Post: # 1460817Post kosifantutti »

It was deep into the last quarter so it probably made no difference. But Tuohy marked a short kick from Simpson near the goal line. He went to play on and realised Riewoldt was bearing down on him so he ran over the goal line and conceded a point. I'm sure they have said in the past if you have a mark or free kick you have had prior opportunity under no pressure and you can't run it over.

I much preferred it in the early days of this rule where players thought they had to keep it in and you had both teams playing football right on the goal line instead of seeing one team doing anything they could to get the ball over the line and get a free kick.

Kosi - these edicts aren't "rules".
They are just flavour of the month "interpretations".

As the months and seasons change - so do the interpretations.
These are the days of our AFL.

Saw that one too, but I guess if he'd played on, then it was "in play" again.

I would guess that it has not been paid once all season. It was a knee jerk reaction at the time and didn't take off. Pathetic.

what angers me most is when the "footy community" screams that you cant have teams deliberately handballing/kicking the ball through for a point
-the AFL bring in a rule - free kick unless the player is under pressure
So when Roo corrals and tackles a player over the goal line - the "footy community" says its a bad rule because Roo doesnt get a free kick

Exactly! What happened to hands in the back? What happened to chopping the arms? What happened to corralling the player after a mark?

Lots of "flavour of the month" interpretations that the umps have been really hot on for a few weeks/months then completely abandoned.
