Put a line through...

Post: # 1460296Post skeptic »

Whilst i don't think that the following guys should never play again, they seriously at least need to be dropped for a week or two...

Surely after tonight no one can justify persevering with Jones while he is playing like that... Ineffective is how i would describe his game. He fumbled, wasn't a particularly dominant midfielder, and was hurt going the other way. It is an a crime that he plays ahead of any of Ross, Saunders, Mav (i know he played tonight), and Murdoch + though they're not mids Milera and Dunnell too shld play ahead of him.

He has been average for a month now. If he's not dropped this week, i will seriously question whether AR is fair dinkum. Could u imagine being Ross, playing like he is at Sandy and missing out to CJ churning out performances like that.

James Gwilt. I like him, really i do but surely even his staunchest defenders must surely acknowledge he is a complete liability down back. I know he wasn't the worst tonight and that he actually did a few good things but we can't let that fool us... Seriously, he made Menzel look like a premium forward for a quarter. There is simply no upside to playing him ahead of Simpkin or even Acres.

Alarm bells are ringing for Schnieder... I know he's popular here but come on, he's pbly one of the highest paid players on our list... The guy needs to do more and do it more often. He missed two absolutely crucial shots in the third 1/4 when we had the momentum and could have closed the gap. This guy needs to do more then bob up 2-3 times a year. We needed him tonight. I know he has been injured but he hasn't put a string of good games together since 2011

Very disappointed with his game

Schneider averaging 1.0 goal a game this year

The much maligned Yarran (1.57) and Garlett (1.33) are ahead of him and in a similar quality side.

Given Schenids doesn't do much else in that he cant play mid and I don't think he is renown for his fwd pressure at all - you have to ask what value he is really giving us if hes not kicking goals? Cant remember him setting too many up this year either (he used to set up loads of goals and hit roo on this chest regularly but that seems like eons ago now).

Love the bloke - but not sure there is much currency in a 'smart' forward these days unless he is more damaging either via goals or goal assists. Id rather have a Puopolo type.

Agreed Con No team can afford to have a player on the field as a tackler only - unless you are taking out a premium mid from the opposition.

Jones was one of our better players I thought and earned his spot. Could have been a lot more ugly than it was without him.

There is no benefit to being mauled by 10 goals or more every week. We need to remain as competive as we can while developing the kids and that is why there is still a spot for him

Let's play 22 kids each week.

I reckon we could average 100 point defeats over the rest of the season with that strategy.

This is a bit silly Con... Using "averages" when he's only played 3 games.

He had 26 touches last night, 5 clearances and a few shots on goal, played all over the ground & was one of our better players.

Are you seriously potting Schnieder, the bloke has played 3 games and easily been in our best in two those.

Jones and Gwilt have let us down more and are clearly no longer up to AFL standard.

Agree, I thought Schneider was in our best four or five, comfortably.

Felt bad for Gwilt.

Normally plays on someone a good 15cm taller than him.

This week he gets the oppositions dangerous small forward.

Never gets a role where he shines much, except vs Essendon, where he played as he should and was wonderful.

Agree 100% on Jones and Gwilt. Not Schneider. He's in our best five, let alone 22.

Who should he have played on last night?

Who should we put a line through - I don't think we should put a line through anyone after last nights game IMO. Most players did some good things, and even those that had stinkers have been good throughout the year. OUr reserves got smashed and knowone really had a blinder, so other than injury and some strategic selection changes, I don't think anyone is worthy of being rubbed out...WOuld like to see Weller get a full game, timing might be perfect against his old team, see if he can have a real impact on the game.

If Geary had played, he wouldn't of had Menzel IMO

But Gwilt still needs a match-up, not many sides have a slow medium forward that would suit Gwilt, that's the issue.

Possibly but who should Gwilt have played on? (Assume Geary was playing)

Schneider if fit is in our best 5 players and is playing more as a mid this season than ever. He hasn't hit 30 yet. 26 possies last night, kicked one and missed two he would normally kick. Was close to BOG really. Why his value is being questioned is well beyond me I have to say.

Because he doesn't play many good games

His talent is beyond question, his performance is not

And u said he missed 2 he would normally kick... No he wouldn't... He's had a few games where he's missed multiple shots we've needed him to kick. Sydney last year anyone. And he's had 1 good game this year.

Last night was not a great game from him... Just because he had 2-3 good moments a game do not maketh

I'm not saying write him off completely...
But he is clearly the most overrated player on our list atm

Not quite sure what you are expecting from him?

26 touches, 19 kicks, 10 contested, 5 marks, 5 clearances, 4 tackles, 4 rebound 50's, 4 inside 50's, 1 goal 2, 1 goal assist.

Clearly in our best 5, probably best 3…

What would a good game look like from Schneider?

im not one to take pot shots at players , its not my style but the question needs to be asked on a few of the senior guys.. i put up the comment in the "what you want to see against carlton" thread that i was looking forward to see how the senior guys responded to the whooping from Hawthorn. This is how i saw it :
ill start with the good ...

Roo- he obviously lifted from last week the delivery was a lot cleaner for him last night then the hawthorn game but on pure work rate he got the job done - again i have a deep fear Roo is going to do himself a major injury soon unless he settles down a bit he throws every thing at the contest and as an older bloke with some issues with his knees i think he needs to go into somewhat preservation mode ...

Lenny - all heart!! just keeps coming and coming and coming ... bit like Harves in his last years lennys body cant quiet keep up with what the mind tells it to do and that half a second lag is letting lesser players then him actually get hold of him from time to time but he in my eyes made up for last week

Joey - last week i reckon he maybe got some cheap possessions to make his game not seem as bad as the rest .. this week we got pretty much your standard Joey game very good without being great

Schnides - honestly i dont see the value in him at this stage , he had a much improved game from last week but lets be honest last week was soo bad he would struggle to play that poorly again again it looks like he hasnt got that desire to give it every thing a few times it looked like he was just running through the motions not really busting a gut to get to the ball or the opponent.. he is a skilled player but he doesnt do enough and at this stage we could prob get the same output by playing Milera TDL or even Minch ..

Jones - look im bias as i have been a long time fan of CJ since he was picked up in the rookie draft , CJ brings to the table effort every time he is desperate to get the ball and sop his man getting the ball .. the problem is when he gets the ball he is almost instantly under pressure or percieved pressure and his first instinct is to get rid of the ball and usually its to the first opportunity not the best opportunity .. you cant fault his effort and i think that is important for the kids to see and be around but we gotta find a player who is able to do his role as at the moment he drags our skill levels down

Dempster - what has happened to SeanyD ? the bloke was an all australian and now he is playing like a true GOP seems to have lost the arieal side to his game and struggles below his knees at the moment .. he plays off his man too much recently needs to go back to being that pure negating defender

Gwilt- is so badly out of form at the moment i found myself expecting carlton to score any time the ball came near Gwilt and his opponent
he needs to go back to the VFL get some confidence beating an opponent cause at the moment i reckon he couldnt beat any forward in the comp

for me i think Gwilt and Schnieds need to be replaced in the team .. Mav needs to take over the CJ role and dempster needs to be set an assignment to blanket a decent player for a game ..

Trav, I think you are a really good poster, but I think you're a bit off your tucker here…

This bloke can't win, gets accused of going missing against the good teams, then against the best side in the comp gets 39 disposals and 12 clearances and is still accused of having a lot of cheap possessions. If Lenny had played like that last week people would be absolutely beside themselves about it.
This wasn't his standard game… he played a shocker, well down on his usual output.
st_Trav_ofWA wrote:Schnides - honestly i dont see the value in him at this stage , he had a much improved game from last week but lets be honest last week was soo bad he would struggle to play that poorly again again it looks like he hasnt got that desire to give it every thing a few times it looked like he was just running through the motions not really busting a gut to get to the ball or the opponent.. he is a skilled player but he doesnt do enough and at this stage we could prob get the same output by playing Milera TDL or even Minch ..
If any of Milera, TDL or Minchington could produce anywhere near Schneiders game last night they would have played every single game this year… this is absurd. The difference between Schneiders Essendon game and last night were the players around him, if Joey and Jack had of got a kick we might have stood a chance. Schneider was comfortably in our best… I'm not sure how anyone could dispute that… he'll play every week with that sort of form.

I think he would be doing exactly his role… without Fisher, Gilbert, Geary & Wright in the side we need someone chopping out the inexperienced blokes, intercepting entries and offering a bit of drive out of the back-line. Pretty hard work at the moment playing deep in our defensive 50.

fair call that those are the stats...

at the ground, I barely noticed him and I would say his actual impact on the game was minimal with a few costly mistakes

maybe I'll watch the replay and revise my opinion

Gwilt got caned by Ben Dixon on Fox Footy and I agree with him 100%. Said something like the only place he had lactic acid was in his eyeballs. He doesn't chase, is lazy and is treacle slow. Opposition coaches are now targeting Gwilt. Simpkin is a better competitor and taller, play him instead. The more Gwilt plays the worse it is for his career. People are now remembering him for his poor performances rather than his good ones.

let me clarify ...
im not having a dig at joey at all in fact i rate him very highly he got a heap of cheap possesions against Hawthorn as we had to go the chip chip type footy cause there was nothing forward of the ball and it was an attempt to slow the scoring down as hawthorn were running rabbid - now im not saying thats a bad thing but for a player like Joey that 39 possesions were not as dangerous to the oppo as his normal out-put would be as i said a very good game by joey but not a great game this week Joey didnt get the 39 possessions as we didnt revert to the chip chip footy we instead tried to win the game so his numbers were down but his influence on the game was again good but not great ...

with Schnieds perhaps i hold him in to high of a light and thats why im being harsh on him.. but the hawthorn match i felt was the worst game i have seen him play ever he in my opinion looked like he had given up, i was expecting him to respond in this game and to a point he did respond as his stats will show he had a much better game but i was just wanting a bit more from him again there were moments (and ill admit i was watching on TV so that can be misleading) where Schnides seemed to be coasting around doing just enough and i find that disapointing. i agree TDL Milera and Minch are not exactly world beaters themselves but what i want from the team is 100% effort 100% of the time in my veiw Schniedes didnt give that for the second time in as many weeks so i would like to see one of those guys given the chance to show if they can give that effort ...

with Dempster i do think the cattle around him is effecting his game , as you rightly point out he is perhaps spreading himself too thin as he is needed kinda everywhere and i think thats where Gwilt being so much out of form is really hurting us
