Post: # 1457251Post #gosaintas »

It's time to call an end to his poor career. No need to stick a fork in him - it's starkly obvious that he is done.

Please AR - I never want to see him play for StKilda again.
Too many of today's goals were on his watch...

I'm with you. Must have photos of the coach in compromising positions. No other explanation.

Well I love gwilt. Club legend as far asa im concerned and good career he should be proud of.
But im not sure what we gain from playing him week in and week out.
He wont be around next time we contend and he is keeping someone from an opportunity.

And dont give me the 'we cant do a Melbourne' or 'you have to earn a game' after today either.
We are already as bad as Melbourne and the senior players aren't earning their spots either. So that whole argument is null and void.

Yes, I'm afraid James Gwilt is done as an AFL player. Time to bring in Fisher, and surround him with some of the younger key defenders such as Bruce and Delaney.

Gwilt isn't our issue, I thought he's actually been very good this year, stats back me up on that.

The issue I saw today was the midfield, who the hell played in it today? Got absolutely smashed, was terrible. Relying on Lenny at 34, no one else stood up at all. So many times we got it, and kicked it to no one.

The thing to say in his favour is that he has been forced to play on blokes up to 20 cms taller than him. The fact that he is not all that agile himself does not allow him to capitalise on the discrepancy when the ball hits the deck. The difference can be seen between him and Josh Gibson. James is 188cm and Josh is 189cm, but oh the difference in agility.

We had only 25 inside 50s for the game , So our mid - field pressure must have been non-existant .
Gwilt was under the pump all day , but only had 9 disposals , 3 of which were clangers .
the hawks had 42 scoring shots , so how can he be singled out .

IMO his time is up,does look very slow and cant really see him reinventing himself in another position

Some of his defensive efforts have bordered on lazy this year.... Possibly just his laconic style, but his lack of urgency, intensity is pretty ordinary.

His lack of mobility for an under size is obvious... It'd be ok if he was Tractor Rutten or Alipate... But at 188cm and cumbersome... No good

The modern day footballer

slow - tick
suspect under any pressure - tick
one sided - tick
poor mark - tick
poor in one - on - one contests - tick
slow learner - tick
undersized - tick
poor tackler - tick
old - tick
huge turning circle - tick

maybe we should trade him

Gwilt has been terrible this year, he is toooooooo slow for the AFL, turns like the Queen Mary and falls too easily. His pace is the main issue, if he had some he wouldn't have to play on the big forwards, could run off and use his penetrating kick as a weapon. Unless he can reinvent himself somehow time is up. very sad because he's a great Saints person.

I don't know how Gwilty can be singled out. 22 players need to have a long hard look in the mirror.

To be fair we copped the Hawks when they are peaking while we are bottoming out. A young inexperienced team is going to be very up and down.

Let's lay the blame on the whole team not just a couple of players, today was as bad an effort as I've seem from a stkilda side and I've seen some shockers but to single out one player or even a couple of players for this would be forgetting how bad the whole team was!I think we can beat Carlton though,!

Gwilty has been pretty solid this year. It was a shocking game for many today. Was he worse than Savage, Schneider, Delaney?

If there was a virus going through the team it would make a lot of sense!

Much better to play Bruce. At least he has size. Gwilt just gives too many frees away, is too slow, can't mark overhead, can't spot a teammate what else??

The virus was called Hawthorn

It isn't 1 players fault but before today I've been amazed at Gwilts obvious lack of agility/speed. His time has come and honestly I'd rather play Bruce and keep a Simpkin or Roberton in the back 6

I'm not convinced Fisher will also get back to anything but when fit he has to be tried

Gwilts had a good career and ought to be proud of it

Lets just play Roberton and Bruce down back.
They are the future.
