To all fellow Saints Fans who travelled to the G today.
My condolences - No one wants to see a dead horse being flogged in they cold rain - well done for hanging in there.
If we know anything at the Saints we know how to handle a flogging. I did the housework after half time with the occasional glance and groan.
Positives - My flat is sparkling!
Negatives - Could write a book!
We'll be back!

Maybe we can abandon the MCG like Aurora and Wellington..... It's the stadiums fault.... Bloody outside conditions, how are we supposed to perform without a roof?!

Yes - footballers aren't supposed to be outside for God's sake!BigMart wrote:Maybe we can abandon the MCG like Aurora and Wellington..... It's the stadiums fault.... Bloody outside conditions, how are we supposed to perform without a roof?!

Soooo cold, I must say though I didnt see many fans there. The form of Billings and Acres was promising, Billings was superb in fact - his game should earn him a rising star nom but wont

Yes it wasn't much fun but I didn't go expecting much fun on the scoreboard. Was hoping to see a few signs from our 'ins'.....and I did.
Most disappointing thing for me......our cheer squad was almost non existent. AT least there's usually a bit of red, white and black behind the goals

As somebody who has seen a lot of Saints footy in forty years I can tell you that today ranks with the all time lows as a supporter. Worst loss in 34 years, so many players without skills. If we are rebuilding ; fine. But a few old reliables need to come out of the side. This was our worst ever loss at the MCG in the club's history. The boys out there disrespected the jumper today.

They were a team of kids and old men against an well oiled machine ... Something for these kids to aspire to ... Acres and Weller showed enough to be a part of our future.
AwayInUSA no longer ... have based myself back in Melbourne for a decade of Saintsational Success (with regular trips back to the USA)

Exactly my point - saw a lot of numbers 44. , 40 and 29 today. Billings showed a bit too. Some of pur senior players were really disappointing today.BackFromUSA wrote:They were a team of kids and old men against an well oiled machine ... Something for these kids to aspire to ... Suppose all is rosy over at BF. What do you expect after one of the worst days in our history. We've had plenty, and dont worry, this rates right up there. We weren't smashed by 10 goals, we were humiliated by 25 goals. Yes 25 goals. I'm still filthy 5 hours later. Some people are thinking it wasn't that surprising, and was almost expected.St Lenny wrote:And this is why people don't come on Saintsational any more
25 flippin goals.

As bad as today was, sitting through that 2010 Grand Final replay was worse.
Yes today was a shocking, shocking loss, no bones about it. However, I have to say, Hawthorn has got to be the most skilled team by foot and hand I have ever seen in nearly 50 years of watching football.
I think you have enough fingers to count the number of times they missed by hand or foot today.
Personally think Geelong is the only team right now that has any chance of beating them for the premiership, they are head and shoulders the best team in the comp.
It actually appears that the loss of Buddy has actually helped them.
We have a long way to go, and let's not remember we are still going to lose Roo, Joey and Lenny over the next few seasons.
For me, if we can manage two more wins this year, we will do as good as I expected.
SO let's all take a deep breath, and put this day behind us, there are going to be plenty of dark days to come, but, there will be better to come and who knows, in 5 years time, we will be absolutely spanking Hawthorn.

Re: To all fellow Saints Fans who travelled to the G today.
My Hawthorn supporting mother is turning 75 in a few weeks so I thought it would be nice to take her & my 2 brothers (1 Saint, 1 Hawk). Unfortunately only the Hawthorn supporting brother could make it, so it was a very gloomy day for me.
Do we play Hawthorn again this season? I'd like to measure us against them later in the year to see if we have improved. Great footy lesson for the kids, but for it to be on such a wet miserable day would have been tough. After the pain of our GF losses, today was nothing.
Hawthorn today reminded me of their great teams of the '80's but with far more skill. I can only hope that we will get close to as good as them.

Ditto the above - Hawthorn is the best side I've seen since Brisbane won their three flags at the start of
the century. Under Leigh Matthews Brissy was skilled, hungry, smart, relentless, and Hawthorn is just as good,
even better.
Still, 25 goals, geez.

I didn't go. Could've gone but logistics with 3 kids doing various things I wussed out. Live TV against the gate helps!
I'm glad we got flogged. Teaches the kids a lesson and also AR.
We will have several more floggings this season.
Cae sera.

Outnumbered supporter wise 10 to 1.
If not worse. No cheer squad.
Love watching Billings though.

Re: To all fellow Saints Fans who travelled to the G today.
The rain cost us.
I reckon it would have been a 10-15 beating if it stayed dry, but once it was wet we lost our only weapon - which is our fast counter punch.

Re: To all fellow Saints Fans who travelled to the G today.
The ease of their first three goals set a scary precedent for the day. Was very unhappy with some senior player's efforts in the first fifteen mins. Kids make mistakes and learn, veterans make mistakes because they're deficient.

Pathetic turnout from our supporters yesterday. Adelaide or West Coast would have had more than us.
Why don't our supporters go to away games?
And don't get me started on our cheersquad, there were about 15 of them yesterday!

Disagree there bro. Hawthorn still have the basis of their 08 team. Our 09 team, Filth of 10 and cats of 11 all would beat this Hawthorn team. Sheesh, the current Cats team beat them and they aren't as good as any of their 3 flag sidesphiltee wrote:Ditto the above - Hawthorn is the best side I've seen since Brisbane won their three flags at the start of

Yeah very good point but if the Hawks go back-to-back they might start to be comparable.stevie wrote:Disagree there bro. Hawthorn still have the basis of their 08 team.
